Played today in a POP of 3.5 H. I was well aware of what to expect from sgnernz's posting. And the first thing I noticed, were the slow fairways due to recent punching (so the lies were spotty all round). I agree that it will be a few weeks for healing. Found the tee boxes to be fine (white). Found one trap and it was damp from the overnight dew/watering but the others appeared OK after it began to warm up (which took 2 hours). Greens were very good all round. With the construction ongoing of the restaurant/bathrooms, it seems very crowded and chaotic around the clubhouse? They even had a long table set up along the front window, for patrons to eat at. I watched one guy almost walk into the table as he came around the corner (dumb idea). Customer service was excellent at all levels. And I totally concur with the previous review, which stated: If they can get the Kikuyu green, get rid of the ridiculously excessive wire grass, and go back to watering some of the dried out areas the course would be even better.

Needed to play quick and close today so I called a day ahead to LV and they got me into a 7:15AM group (5-some) with a 4.5 hr PoP. I paid $35 walking rate that included a small bucket. Punching fairways continues so be aware (on #1 today) as it will be a few weeks before they fully heal. No disrespect to the previous poster but the fairways here are not a highlight, for sure. #9 & 18 are downright hideous ... barely any flat areas for the ball to stop so the slope directs your ball into unconditioned rough or hard pan under the trees. However, the Poa greens are real nice right now ... semi-firm but will hold a well struck iron ... but will release anything else. Hardly any ball marks (yeah!), mostly smooth deep green in color (#2 had some minor fungus). Visited a couple FW & GS bunkers which were in good condition and no foot prints. One playing partner found clay at the bottom of the front bunker on #17 so beware. Lot's of maintenance going on and some tree removal since my last visit here. Specifically, the trees behind #10 green are gone which really improves the view as you walk up the fairway. Also, on #14 the big Pine left side around 200 out was removed which widened that fairway considerably. Good to see the improvements. Played here a couple days ago. The course has a beautiful location, lots of ocean views and nice cool weather. We played an afternoon round and the wind was definitely a challenge, (no surprise next to the ocean).

The greens were definitely the highlight for me. Smooth, firm, and fast. The ocean breaks were in my head all day, couldn't putt to save my life haha. Everything breaks to the ocean (i knew that going in, and still couldn't get it together). Shots held perfectly into the green. They weren't soft which I find can cause shots to back up a bit too much.

Fairways were nice, a bit tight but lies were very fair. The ball set up nice in the fairway. The rough was spotty at best. Lots of dirt lies, not much in the way of rough (except around the greens there was some longer grass). I guess if you miss the fairway you shouldn't really complain about your lie anyhow >< . There's a bit of trouble off the tee on many holes, lots of bushes and some OB to contend with.

Tee boxes were good, they were punched on many holes but still plenty of room to tee up nicely. No complaints here.

I wasn't in any bunkers but didn't hear any gripes from the others in our group.

Overall, I'd say this course is well worth the rack rates and I only wish I lived a bit closer so I could play more often. Check it out! Cheers

Today's POP 3 H. Course has rounded into very nice shape. No issues with the tee boxes (white) on any hole. Fairways are green, rolling and providing good lies (outside of fairways you will find some thin lies/hard pan). The rough in many areas has been cut (even the wire grass) but you will find some rough and it is thick and thin, depending upon your area. Bunkers were all fine and heard no complaints. Greens were cut, clean and chipping/putting great and with speed (they held shots just fine). Customer service excellent at all levels. Construction still under way, with temporary cafe next to banquet hall.

Played today in 3.5 H. Very cold and foggy morning, which did not lend to optimal golf. Tee boxes (white) were all fine/level. Bunkers were playable and no issues heard. Fairways were damp/hard and provided thin lies all round (though they did have roll). The greens had been punched last week (Tues with small punch) and saw no residual of holes/sand. They putted/rolled/chipped just fine. Rough is a mixture of grass and wire grass (sngernz's term for it) and it needs to be cut, as it is impossible to hit out of (the wire grass), while the higher grass is playable. Customer service excellent at all levels. Construction on restaurant and locker room continues. Large trailer toilets in the parking lot and some parking spots taken. Temporary restaurant set up in back of restaurant, near the banquet room.

Recently moved up to the area where Los Verdes is. I know the horror stories of 6 hour weekend rounds, but I decided to give it a shot on Easter Sunday, 4/1.
Tee'd off at 8am as a 4some, trailing a 5some, and I have to say, POP was amazingly good. At 12:10pm, we were pulling into the cart staging area. Kinda shocking actually!

Besides the POP being good, the course is spotty at best.
Tee boxes (Blues) were shaggy, with some beat up pretty bad.
Fairways were very spotty, with lots of GUR, and not lush at all.
Rough was non-existent, and let to bad lies, un-even turf, weeds in the rough, etc. You name it, the rough had it (it wasn't too penalizing, but it also didn't help).
Bunkers were decent. Nice soft, smooth sand in most bunkers.
Greens were probably the best part (besides the ocean views). The were medium fast, & somewhat smooth. Still not excellent, but a little above average.

I'd recommend on a clear day, as ocean views are awesome here, but with that comes 5somes and 5-6 hour rounds. I'd recommend, but buyer beware, haha!

Yes with this time of the year, L V always turns into the "ugly relative", especially during the rains. Greens are the best part of the course, presently. I would concur with previous review about other areas of the course and hope maintenance can improve them, in the coming days/weeks? Also, yes the restaurant and restrooms are being redone, but they do have a temporary restaurant set up back in the banquet room, if needed. Customer service excellent at all levels.

Decided to stay local this gorgeous Friday morning and trekked up to Los Verdes, teeing off at 8:30 and finishing a bit past 1PM ... slow play is the norm here unless you play at dawn like Weber or 24hour. I'd rant but it'd be preaching to the choir.

Anyway, course conditions have not changed since the last time I was here about a year ago. Wire grass in some areas has worsened, multiple grasses in fairways (somewhat shaggy), and great Poa greens sums it up. Errant tee shots (even 5 yards off the fairway) can be rewarded with a hardpan lie. Bunkers hit and miss but the maintenance crew were working on some so that was good to see.

Beautiful vistas, semi-challenging layout, good greens will keep LV in the rotation. Slow play, crappy fairways, and non-existent rough will mean it'll be another year or so before I return.

I played Sunday, teeing off at about 8:30. First thing, the coffee shop and locker room are being remodeled. There are portable restrooms in the parking lot and, as of Sunday, the restroom by the coffee shop is still open. They say the restaurant will continue to be open, though it was closed when I was there.
Though it had rained the night before I played, the course drained well and there was no standing water. Tee to green, the conditions were good, except for the areas in the tree-line or well off the fairways, where it got very muddy. The bunkers were fine.
The greens were a different kind of challenge than usual. Some dried out quickly and were normal speed. Some held more water and were slower than usual.
Pace of play was under five hours. Service was great, as usual.
