Played a Saturday round with a large group of guys that play monthly, but once a year put on a big event that Los Verdes got the call for this year. We played the white tees and rode with five groups in total starting at 9am.

Great shape right now on the always-tough Los Verdes greens. Super fast, very true and great coverage. Lines are tough to read and everything breaks towards the ocean, except when it actually looks like it's going to break towards the ocean and it goes the other direction just to mess with you. But seriously, very nice shape on the greens.

Fairways and rough are also in pretty good shape compared to visits over the past years. I was only in a few bunkers but they were good to go. Tee boxes were in okay shape as well. POP was a non-issue thanks to the fact that we had our big, fun group, but when all was said and done, it was your typical weekend six-hour round. Would have driven me crazy on any other day, but on this day it was NBD.

Unfortunately the weather was pretty gray all day so the first-timers really missed out on this course's main selling point - the ocean views of this poorer-man's Sandpiper. However, when the sky cleared up around the 14th hole, we did see some spouting whales in the Pacific from the 16th fairway. Pretty epic.

First time back out at Los Verdes in over a year and a half to play my Flex Tour round with a new friend (also playing the tour) and two others. Really a fun bunch of guys and it was cool that none of them had ever been to Los Verdes before and got to see it in a lot of its splendor. Unfortunately the weather was mostly uncooperative with cold temps and gray skies, but there were a few glimpses of the blue sky that made it more pleasant.

Some of the better course conditions I've seen at Los Verdes in quite some time. Maybe ever? Fairways are in good shape with plenty of nice lies to be found all over, but you may encounter some thin here and there. The rough is beastly currently as they've let it grow and it can be a serious bear to get your ball out in some thickets. Tee boxes were mostly good, but the bunkers were aesthetically nice but very thin when actually hitting out them.

Greens were showing just the slightest signs of the last aeration on half of them, but nothing to get too worked up at all. I forgot just how tough the greens can be here when they're super fast. Many of the greens are severely sloped and break in deceptive ways, but today's greens were a little less quick than I remember from before which helped make putting less an adventure most of the day. But don't get complacent - you're still going to work pretty hard here for almost every par.

Probably would have been a lot longer before returning here but I'm glad we did as the course is really a lot of fun and it's in good condition at present. And while the normal dreaded POP here still keeps me away most times, it was interesting today that a five and half hour round moved as if it was much quicker. Was actually very surprised it took us that long to get around, which is a testament to a fun track in good shape and playing with good company.

Played on April Fools day yesterday. Went out early, 6:45am tee time. Beautiful day. POP was just over 4 hours. The greens in good shape but I heard were going to be punched. They’re also, I feel, some of the most difficult greens to read, at least for me. Love the course and for the money, a gem. I felt that the rest of the course, fairways, tee boxes and sand traps were all in better than normal winter to spring conditions and you can’t beat the views.

Simply the best value in Southern California ! $16.50 to play on the ocean on a beautiful spring morning.

The greens were exceptional. Fast and true, however they will be punching them on 3/26/19, so great timing to play today. Fairways generally decent, rough as usual is spotty or terrible. I notice they have cleared areas surround some of the trees adjacent to a few fairways and surrounded them with sand ? I was lucky enough to find two of them, which made playing off those lies not so much fun. My bad. Keep it in the fairway and it would not have been an issue.

Always enjoy playing this course, even today when I totally sucked, it was a great day to enjoy the ocean views and putt on such pure greens, none of which I made by the way.

Played on Saturday 2/9 tee time 12:20pm. The last time i played here was in November and the previous reviews were spot on. It was the worst shape i have ever seen Los Verdes. But it looks like the rain we've had in January and last couple weeks really helped. Much greener all around. The tee boxes are ok, some uneven, some divots, typical muni. Fairways still have some bare spots but much better coverage than a couple months ago. The rough is still the same, half grass and half bare ground. The bunkers are inconsistent, most are ok but some have too much sand imo. The greens were nice. Smooth for the most part with little unrepaired ball marks and FAST. At least a 10 on the stimp. Recommend playing. Even if the conditions are not that great, you can't beat the beautiful view of the ocean for these modest rates.

6:07 am tee time (second group off) and yes it was pitch black - dark outside. However by our second shots into #2, we could see well enough to justify "losing" the first hole. As a result our walking foursome played in 3 hours 12 minutes. Not too bad !

This is without question the best deal in golf ! $16.50 to play on a December morning in shirt sleeves, with an ocean view on most holes. Doesn't get any better than that!

The greens are the highlight of this course, in fact other than the views, the only highlight. The course is in very rough - scruffy condition. Difficult to find a decent lie anywhere other than in the sand or on/near the greens. Despite that, still had a great time, and can't wait to return again in a few months.

It really makes you appreciate living in Southern California in the winter. Sure beats sitting at home in Chicago and thinking about shoveling snow.

I've played here for over 25 years and I never seen this course in this poor of shape. Fairways are average and very thin in many areas. Also noticed that they are very bumpy and even when finding the fairway after a nice drive, you'd get a bad lie. But that wasn't the worst part... the areas surrounding the fairways, they've let go so badly and all have turned into hard pan. It could be watering restrictions in the county? But honestly they were awful. Tee boxes unlevel most places...some ok. The greens rolled great and were firm and fast for an early morning round. I've loved playing this challenging course over the years... but won't return until I hear they've fixed this issue. If I wanted to play off hard pan I'd play Victoria. Very disappointed in the shape of this county gem.

New restaurant is now open and it is very nice. Customer service excellent at all levels. They say they will aerate next week?

Played this morning, as the 3rd group off with the sunrise. POP was 3H. So no glow balls or playing in the dark. Course was very wet from overnight watering and the dew. Add to that, we had strong overcast, some wind and all those factors made the course play very long. Tee boxes were all fine. Fairways "were a mixed bag - some areas nice, some areas awful" to quote Weber. Bunkers were playable, but some still had wet sand. Greens were good and playable and no issues were faced by anyone. Excellent customer service at all levels. We also celebrated our friend Jim's birthday, who turned 97 and is still playing (many of you may know him) and hope to celebrate his brothers 104 birthday in Feb (he had to stop playing at 102).
