Played Sunday, May 10. We played early, before 6:30 am, and the course was not crowded. It was Mother's Day which may have been a factor, but it was the first course I have played since the reopenings started that was not full of golfers. POP was excellent as a result. We played in four hours and the group on the 10th tee when we were finishing said they had played the front in two hours.

Standard Covid-19 restrictions with the addition of County monitors riding around the course observing whether social distancing was maintained. I did not see any breaches myself and I did not see the monitors interacting with golfers. They just loomed in the background. Note, the driving range was not open nor was the coffee shop open for any purpose. I heard the beverage cart was out on the course the day before but we had not seen it by the time we finished about 10:15.

The course was much lusher than I have seen it. It was actually a tough walk because of it. Walking up the hill to the 13th green felt like I was pushing a snow plow instead of a push cart. Great hitting surface in the fairway but not much roll, so the course played longer than usual. There were also some very thick native growth, British Open style, such as right on #1, and left on #6. Rough was generally up. I found 3 balls in the regular rough.

The greens looked great, were firm, but putted slower than usual. While they had okay speed, balls were left above holes on downhill putts much more than normal. The sand traps were okay.

Overall, a good day on the links. Always enjoy it here and it is still great to just get out of the house and enjoy golf again.

Played Saturday, March 14. Course was decently crowded considering the coronavirus situation. Three people on the waiting list and full groups that I saw. Fully staffed with friendly people.

The course drains well so there were no issues with casual water or even overly saturated ground. It rained off and on much of the round but it was a light drizzle that did not affect conditions. The course had not been mowed a a couple of days it looked like, so it was shaggier than usual. The greens looked good but they were slower, slow side of medium, and bumpy for whatever reason. The rough was up especially in the wilder portions. I found a couple of balls looking for playing partner's balls. The sand was good in the few bunkers I was in. The tee boxes were a mixed bag. Level but some were chewed up and one I had to stand on my tee to get it in.

Overall, a good experience considering the series of storms we have had.

Played Sunday in the Men's Club tourney. Gorgeous morning with views that included a glimpse of the Channel Islands in the Ventura/SB area. The views of Malibu and Catalina were crystal clear. Cool Santa Ana wind at the start that calmed down in the mid-morning.

The course is playing firm and fast. Pretty dry overall but with decent grass cover and they have been able to maintain some areas that they seeded last year to make the course look better. And catch some wayward shots like left on #2. That said, there are many dirt areas between holes, such as between 6 and 7, and several areas on the back nine. Generally good conditions though.

The greens were outstanding and very quick. There were some tough pin positions. We had a couple of balls roll back from the back right pin position on #4, including one player whose ball went two feet past the hole then rolled back about 15 feet or more. Wind aided but showing the speed of the greens. They rolled great though.

Nice coffee shop with plenty of TVs to watch the games. The servers are great also.

Recommend right now, just know going in that it is not going to be a fast round.

There are many disadvantages to playing super early. (Dark, cold, wet, uncut greens, sprinklers, cup paint still wet, unraked bunkers, etc) But one of the best things is rarely no wind! Not the case this morning at Los Verdes. The wind blew throughout the round, 15-20mph with gusts well above that. Made for a cold, tough round of golf, particularly on the greens which became super firm and very quick downwind.

Great customer service as always, and it is simply the best $16.50 golf course anywhere ! Nice pace of play, right at three hours for our walking threesome. As mentioned, greens were quick and firm, but rolled well. Fairways generally pretty good. Rough not so much. thin, bare, spotty. Tee boxes a bit shaggy at times.

But every time I play here and I get to #15, regardless of how well/poorly I'm playing, just love the million dollar view. One of the best second shots of any golf course.

Played 11/16 with my monthly tournament crew. This course for some reason always gives me a hard time. I've only played it 3 times and I cannot figure out these greens. Balls were not holding greens whatsoever and all four of us in the group putted our balls off the green at least once. They were real slippery that's for sure... Greens were in great shape to add as well, for as much play this course gets that's definitely surprising. Tee boxes were a bit chewed up but not enough to not find a good teeing area. Fairways were thin with bare spots here and there, I was on a few thrift my round. Nothing like hitting off of hard pan in and near the fairway... Bunkers were fine, nothing great. Not much of a difference between the fairway and the rough as there really isn't much rough through the course.
Overall I'm not a huge fan of this course but that's just me. If 5 1/2 hr rounds are your thing then this is up your alley. Conditions aren't up to par to put up with the views and they are great views. Not trying to put this track down, like I said just my opinion...

Played Sunday 11/10, tee time at 8:44am, closer actual to 9am. Played behind a 5some which moved rather well the first 4 holes, but then things slowed down quite a bit. Ended up with a 5 hour 20 minute round. No marshall as usual, no waving up on par 3's. My partner and I rode cart and played with a twosome walking, but they kept up fine and we were typically waiting on the tee boxes. Course conditions were good, and the greens were fast with the weird breaks (always breaks towards ocean, no matter what you see). Fairways were also in good condition. It's always a well maintained course which is impressive given the sheer quantity of golfers that play here everyday. If the rounds could ever get under 5 hours, it would be my go-to in the area at $55 with cart. But most locals know to expect 5-6 hours minimum.

Some times you can play poorly and still actually enjoy the experience, which was the case at Los Verdes. Out early, as is a requirement if you're going to play here, otherwise it can be a eternity to finish a round at this course. Staff as always was great, and getting out in the first couple groups allowed pace of play to be great.

Conditions here are very good right now, greens rolling well and reasonably quick. Most of the fairways are fine, with some areas which need attention. Rough as always is "iffy" depending where your balls comes to rest.

Hard to not enjoy playing in perfect weather, with ocean views for $16.50. Can there be a better deal in all of golf ? When you consider the cost to play Torrey Pines, Monarch Beach, Sandpiper, and of course Pebble Beach, which is not to try to compare Los Verdes to any of them, but for a fraction of cost, it explains why I can justify enjoying the round despite my poor play.

Out early done early. 2.5 H. Even with the lazy back 9 players. I would suggest that L V either cut off back 9 play earlier than 7 AM or make all groups of 5 take a cart. As well as marshal the back 9 so that players making the turn in 2 hours or less, don't end up playing the back 9 in 2 hours plus. It is very easy for the regulars in the first 2/3 groups to play the front in 2 or less hours. They should not be forced to find a bottle neck on the back 9 when they make the turn. Not too mention that because the clubhouse cannot see the 18th green/10th tee, players who play 9 are going back and playing it again, after finishing the 18th hole. I know this because 2 players who checked in to play back 9 before 7 AM were still on the back 9 on 14 when I was coming up 13. I am pretty certain it did not take them 2 hours to play 4 holes (and I played through them and mentioned that fact). Found the course to be in some of the best condition I have seen it in the many years I have been playing the course. The tee boxes are very nice. Fairways have great grass coverage (all of them so they must have listened to Stew) and provide very good lies and roll out. Traps were all raked and playable. There is rough outside of many fairways that will cause you to look for your ball and make it difficult to play out of. Greens were in terrific shape. They had speed, chipped/putted beautifully all round. Customer service was excellent at all levels. Highly recommended, but play early. Beautiful day on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Was able to get a am time as a single at LV on a previous day call, my bad for waiting but it worked out. PoP right at 4hrs. Have not been here for some time but since I've played here for a couple decades now I've seen the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Good: the greens are excellent Poa, cut perfectly and rolling true. No complaints. The new bar/restaurant looks like a nice place to hang out, too. Bunkers rate up there, too. Good sand and taken care of, good to see.
The Bad: fairways are mostly green and playable with some patchy stuff to negotiate. But some fairways are downright terrible (ie. #2, 9, & 18) and it's a shame nothing has been done about it.
The Ugly: anywhere off the fairway. Wire grass has doubled ... the 'rough' is either overgrown Kikuyu or the more prevalent hard pan. Oh, yeah, they allow five-somes which contributes to the slow PoP here.

Recommended if you can get out early and can keep the ball in the fairway. After all, $30 walking is hard to beat.
