First off on Monday at 6:00am. Still dark, but worth it to get around here in a nice pace. Our threesome walked without rushing in about 2 hours 50 min. Other than the absence of light for the first hole, it was great weather. Not too cold - no wind.

I was blown away at just how good the greens were. Very impressed with them, considering all the play this course gets. Fairways were generally fine, greenside bunkers had plenty of well raked sand. Rough was spotty or bare dirt, depending upon where your ball finished.

It's just hard to imagine being able to play a course on the ocean in such nice condition, for $16.50. (senior walking rate) A steal ! Makes me appreciate living in Southern California. If I lived closer, I'd be out here a whole lot more.

Played 11/15 in POP of 3.5 H. Found the course in great shape this week. No issues with tee boxes; fairways had more grass coverage, so lies (you will find some thin areas) were good and good roll; some of the wire grass/rough had been cut down from previous week, but still hard to play from; bunkers all clean and playable; greens were rolling great and provided good chipping/putting (fast) all round. Customer service excellent at all levels.

Played today in a nice POP of 3.5 H. What a difference playing now (sunrise) vs the last few months of DST? Whatever was the issue with the greens last week, has now been cleared up. They chipped/putted (fast) like they did 2 weeks ago. Great to see that change. Fairways still have ample grass and provide good lies and roll. But there is a significant amount of rough growing up outside the fairways (maybe they will cut it? Maybe not). And it is deep, thick (you easily can loose a ball) and not at all playable (you are advised). Tees are all fine. Bunkers were playable and of no issue. Customer service excellent at all levels. I would like to comment about the previous post, regarding the draining of LV after rain? In all the years I have played here, I have never found this course to drain well after storms? In fact quite the opposite, IMO. This course does not drain well and personally I avoid this course after rain storms and give it time to dry out. Also, it is a very slippery course, during/after rains, due to the many hills.

Weather was perfect and the greens were real nice as well. There is not much bad to say about this county course. Great views with better than average conditions and all at a reasonable price. With the rainy season coming up you should note that this course drains very well so head up there after a rain storm passes by and you should enjoy a nice round.

Some quite a lot? Tee boxes all fine; fairways green and provided good roll/lies all round; there seems to be more rough growing up around the fairways and it is sticky; traps seemed fine and heard to complaints. Customer service was excellent at all levels.

Played yesterday in a nice POP of 4 H. I personally, found the course to be in better shape this week, than last week. Tee boxes had no issues; fairways had more grass and with the light breeze and sun, were providing great lies and roll; you will find some rough on the outside of the fairways and around some greens and it is difficult (like rough should be); bunkers were all fine, including the one I was in; greens were beautiful and chipped/putted (fast) all round, as the breeze dried them out. Customer service was excellent at all levels. No idea why there were no marshals (those of you who know Joe, wish him speedy recovery, please) but they could use a few good ones, again (hope you are reading this Bob/Chris)? Play it, play early (if possible) and you will not be disappointed.

Played today in a POP of 4 H. Can't wait for DST to begin, to be able to play earlier and avoid the early morning congestion this time of year causes. Course is in very nice shape at present. Tee boxes were all clean and level (hard to believe it has been almost 5 years since they were all redone); fairways had good coverage, providing good lies and were firm, providing good roll; bunkers were in fine shape (I know because I visited several); greens were mowed and chipped and putted very nicely. The condition of the course (IMO) is as good as I have seen it in recent memory, so hats of to Scott and his team. Customer service excellent at all levels.

Decided to brave the long rounds at Los Verdes this past Friday with Kassper7, snagging a 1:22 tee time for $37 with cart. You don't even need to talk about the conditions to know that for a course with this type of awesome scenery, the price midweek is always spot on.

And therein lies the rub - there are simply too many people enjoying it that you can barely finish a round midweek that you start that early. And with allowing fivesomes, it gets even worse waiting on every hole and never getting much into rhythm. But hey, people keep showing up in droves so why would they change things like Rancho Park did?

But talking about POP issues at Los Verdes is boring and common, so let's get to the good bits. Conditions currently are mixed. Greens are fast as ever, pretty smooth and nice coverage yet holding shots well. You will absolutely be in trouble every time your ball is above the pin so keep that in mind with every chip or pitch. It can be terrifying!

Outside of the greens though, there is plenty amiss at LV right now, starting with the fairways. Is accessing water an issue here? Are they watering too much? I have no idea, but I do know the fairways have far too many thin and brown sections here which is a bummer. Just not enough areas of nice carpet. The rough is a mixed bag of mulch, thin, tree-rooty, decent and lush - good luck with that.

Tee boxes were mostly in good shape but a few crowned ones and of course they show wear with all of the traffic here. Sand traps were in good shape in the few that I was in and saw elsewhere. Not great, but certainly not bad. But of course, course rating will be higher than expected based on the lean towards the greens, but they do make the difference.

I would still say that LV is a must-play from my location at least once or twice a year, but never more than that until they sort out the POP issues, which of course they won't. They could also use a bulldozer here and there to sort out some dodgy holes like 9, 13 and 14. But you can't beat the price for location pretty much anywhere so it's worth the haul every so often.

Fairways had good coverage and provided good roll; sand traps were just fine; tee boxes all good; found very little rough, but there are areas that will cause issues; greens were terrific for chipping and putting and they were fast. Customer service was excellent. Thoroughly enjoyable.
