To "piggy-back" on 24hourgolf's review from 9/6/17, played on 9/8/17 and agree with his comments. Greens were very nice, rolled true and seemed faster than they looked. Plenty of grass in the fairways, and as long as you don't hit it crooked, the bare areas in the rough do not come into play.

Staff is always great here, and providing you get out early, the pace of play is just fine. Very much enjoy this course, just wish I did not have to arrive so early to insure getting out before the crowds, but once out on the course, it's all worth it !!

Played 9/6 in POP 4 H. Course is in very nice shape at present. Tee boxes were all clean and level; fairways were green/rolling/great lies; bunkers were just fine; rough outside of fairways and around greens, is thick; greens were are in great shape for chipping/putting and fast; greens are cut in front of holes and around greens (nice touch) and provide great chipping/putting opportunities for scoring. Customer service excellent at all levels.

We had a small group outing on a recent weekend, and as much as we like the course, I can't help but wonder why Los Verdes is always a six-hour round. Of the many years (at least 20) that our group has played there, we probably teed off on time about three times. Yes, they are always very late in teeing off groups. I know revenue is a big factor, but to pack a tee sheet so tightly that it takes six hours to play a round of golf is insane. One of our players who had never played Los Verdes commented that as much golf as he plays, he has never played a six-hour round. Eight minute tee times is not enough time for 5-somes. Unbeknownst to a lot of people, we tournament groups have to pay an additional per person surcharge, hence our cost to play any LA county course on the weekend is much higher than call-ins. So, it is a bit frustrating to wait on every hole which makes for a very long day.

Played today in a nice POP of 3.5 H. Started off cool, but heated up later in the round, so glad it was on the coast today. Course is in (IMO) the best shape I have seen it this year. Tee boxes were a... Continue »

Played today in a nice POP of 3.5 H. Started off cool, but heated up later in the round, so glad it was on the coast today. Course is in (IMO) the best shape I have seen it this year. Tee boxes were all mowed/clean and great; fairways were green, with roll and great lies all round; areas in front of greens and around greens, mowed and a great help in scoring; bunkers were fine and heard/saw no complaints/issues; greens were wonderful and held shots/chipped great and putted fast (they too are the best I have seen all year). Customer service excellent at all levels.

Tournament day (8/28) for me at Los Verdes and was looking forward to it as I have never played here before. The course was closed for us this afternoon and we teed off at 1:00 shotgun start. It was a slow day – 5 hour tournament speed but I guess that just can’t be avoided with so many people.

I have mixed feeling about the course. The layout is kind of neat with good length playing at over 6,700 yards. Has a mixture of short/long holes and some dog legs. Fairways were in good shape providing you were in the fairway. Lots of trees out there lining the fairways but missing the fairway meant you were in wet, uncut Kikuyu or dry hard pan. The hard pan was pretty bad but its typical of courses who let these areas go due to water issues. Just seems this was the worst I have seen. Tee boxes were in good condition. Wasn’t in any bunkers for a change but they seemed to be in nice condition.

The greens were the best part. They were in in good shape and rolled nicely. Actually I found them challenging and difficult to read.

I was told there are nice views of the ocean and have seen the pictures on GK but the coast was foggy so the ocean couldn’t be seen. The fog also brought the wind and made some holes hitting into it, pretty challenging. I enjoyed the day and would like to come back now that I got the lay of the land.

Back out to L V today. POP was right on 4 hours. Course is getting ready for some large tournaments in the next few week. So lots of maintenance going on. Tee boxes are all fine; fairways are green with some brown areas, but very playable; no bunker issues; you will find some rough outside of fairways/greens and much of it is thick and difficult; greens were fine and speedy (especially downhill). Customer service excellent at all levels. Love what they are doing by cutting in front of and around the greens, to give you better scoring opportunities.

Played Wed 8/9. POP was right on 4 hours with 5 of us. Course is in nice shape presently. They seemed to have solved the "fungus" issue on the greens and they chipped and putted great. They are hard, so be prepared for some wild bounces? Fairways have nice coverage and good lies; sandtraps are very very playable; lots of rough outside of fairways and around the greens; Tee boxes are good, but are getting hard and not so tee friendly; customer service excellent at all levels.

POP today 4 hours. You can tell the tourists are in town? Many new faces teeing off in the AM that do not know how to play the course causing earlier than usual slow play (personally I notice the marshals on Wed are hesitant to say anything to anyone? They just ride around? WHY). Unfortunately the warm weather has brought back the fungus on the greens (does not effect putting, just looks bad). Fairways are green giving good roll and lies, but some have some brown spots that just dry out to fast (but they don't effect the play). I suspect the superintendent would love to have a new and updated watering system? No harsh words from those in bunkers. Tee boxes are good, but some are getting less tee friendly (more water if available). No doubt the soil on L V is not the best after so many years? There is rough outside the fairways and around some greens, that will test your game. Customer service excellent at all levels.
