Work continues on the front 9. Between the 4th and 5th hole, the entire cart path has been removed and the bathrooms out of commission. It would appear work will begin shortly on the 5th hole tee box? All bunkers on the left side of the 6th hole are undergoing work and both bunkers left/right of 6th hole appear to have been finished. Hole 7 tee box is finished but temporary tee still in place and work on the bunkers on the hole appear finished but need time to heal. Looks like those of us who play here will be in for a long month of July/Aug while they finish doing the tee boxes and bunkers. Other than the construction, the course is in good shape and the greens are still playing well. Some of the greens appear to have some fungus, but it does not effect play at all.

On the 27th, I had a babysitter watching my boy and about 8 hours to burn with not much to do, so I headed out to Los Verdes. The first five holes are the slowest in the history of golf, but each are memorable. I keep hearing people say it's because the management tries to get too many people on the course at once, but honestly it's just the layout. I really feel for the kids working their butts off in the pro shop trying to keep everything moving and getting such abuse when there isn't anything anyone could possibly do about the pace here. When you start with a short, reachable par 5, short par 4, short par 3, godawful difficult and long par 4 with a blind green that takes a stroke of luck or genius or a 330 yard drive, then short-ish par 3, you're going to be waiting. It took us over 2 hours to get through those holes, and then it was pretty smooth sailing (in comparison).

The front 9 is nothing to write home about, most holes are pretty easy, and driver can stay in the bag except for #4 and #6, but the greens roll true and fairly quick (real quick downhill and downgrain), the tee boxes are decent and the fairways are pretty alright, though really hard, so expect a few undercover hardpan lies. If you prefer taking a divot, this course isn't going to suit your game well.

NOTE: There is heavy construction on the par 5 sixth hole. There is a hole in the middle of the fairway about 100 yards closer from the actual green, so take into account when figuring out your yardage. Several of the bunkers are being rebuilt on this hole and on the 7th, which is also undergoing a tee box rebuild.

Then, you get to the back 9, which makes up for the lackluster front. The tee boxes are immaculate, the bunkers are pristine and fluffy, the greens are perfect, and the views are spectacular, especially on the 15th hole overlooking the ocean. Book on GolfZing to get a rate that helps you not feel hosed when you may or may not finish 18. We started at 3 pm, and made our last putts on 18 as the last rays of sun started to disappear. Enjoy, if you have the patience!

Construction has begun on the front 9. #7 has a temporary tee box as they redo the tee and bunker @ 200 yard marker is under repair. At this time that is the only work on the front 9. Course is in good shape and POP today was right on 4 hours. I am sure as the weeks go on, more and more work will be taking place, so be prepared. Restaurant is back in operation as well.

Got out a bit later than 24hourgolf (6:40) so our PoP was more around the 4.5 hr type. Walked on and was paired with a sweet elderly couple and two young guys who struggled from the blue tees ... still had a good time. It's $27 to walk LV weekday which is really a great deal, although today started out as overcast early and even became very misty later in the morning ... go figure.

While I cannot use terms such as 'great' and 'lush' to describe LV, the fairways are in better shape than the last time here, at least they're green. But I gotta tell you, the rough is patchy and scruffy at best ... some lies are okay and others, well, not so much. Poa greens are mostly decent which has always been the saving grace for this course, that and the views. Back nine has filled in nicely from last years new re-do, not sure when the front side will start but I hear there are budget issues ... we'll have to wait and see. The county is dropping some bucks here, mostly the clubhouse and gathering area where they make big bucks on weddings and the such. Oh, yeah, the GK'ers still need a lesson on how to cut a hole for a cup: several were overhung and not round.

BTW: the elderly couple ... the guy is 98 years old! Just fantastic to play with both of them.

Played today in 3.5 hours. Course is in great shape. Greens appear to be in the best shape in a very long time and the fairways are lush but damp in the morning. Be aware that due to painting/remodeling some parking spaces on the street level are limited; the restaurant is currently closed (however service is available outside) and painting crews are everywhere. It would appear while the improvements will be great, they are not even close to finishing for 1-2 weeks.

We would like to say "hats off" to the great people working the course at Los Verdes Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes! We have played there for years and have NEVER seen the overall course in such good condition at this time of the year. It's in better condition than most mid summers! This is a significant accomplishment given the amount of remodeling undertaken on the back nine last summer! The vast majority of areas which were reworked have astonishingly, if not completely regrown and most of them are in better condition than before the work! If you did not know all of the work that had been performed, you probably wouldn't know! It's impressive to see the greens keeper, Scott out there with work crews or by himself observing and doing. We can see a difference in how the course crews are properly grooming and maintaining the course. We have not seen that before at Los Verdes, and now we even know the greens keeper and his manager, Bob! There have been a number of improvements made to the course in the last few years, and the current course management is bringing them together to make Los Verdes a fabulous course! This is a REAL accomplishment for a course that gets as much play as Los Vedes. Please let the staff know that the players see and appreciate the improvements!

Teed off yesterday at 1:30 pm. Paid full price, $36.50 to walk. 6 hours and 10 minutes, a new personal record for a non-tournament situation. Saw no one particular group slowing it down; the course was just plain crowded. We played under the marine layer almost the entire round, the only saving grace on a very long day. The course was in good shape. The greens were a little slower than they usually are but still a good speed.

I have been playing Los Verdes Golf Course since it opened and the course is in the best shape I've ever seen or experienced! The greens are perfect and the tree-lined fairway's are above average for a public course. The views looking toward the Ocean are spectacular...Catalina Island can be seen from most the holes on the course...
The Facility has just gone through a face lift and looks great...
The facility is run by an experienced management staff which lends to wonderful golfing experience!!
I highly recommend playing this beautiful mature golf course...

Went out last Sun ..holiday wknd..it was like an episode from the twilight zone. NO ONE THERE...wtf where am I guy? This can't be Los V I said! ,y first sub 6 hr round there ever! Course looks good as it ever has, great cool weather. Not sure why they spent all that $$ on redoing the concrete cart paths...did someone stub their toe? Lawsuit? Friendly staff, great day. My advice...hit it ....but only if you have 6+ hrs to kill or the wifey is out of town.
