So played this course many times over the last 40 years and never nothing special. Started a New years day tradition about 4 years ago with my son and his buddies and I have to say a big thank you to the grounds crew here. Played it again yesterday after all the recent rain the course was in good shape. Now what has blown my mind here is how good the greens are. Super smooth, consistent and a good to medium speed. Also I was in 3 bunkers yesterday and they are some of the best bunkers anywhere and I just got back from playing some great courses in Palm Springs and recently played San Diego CC. Plenty of sand in the bunkers, consistent and even. Nice to see others felt the same as all the bunkers were raked. Great job guys!

Played on 06/10/23. After dropping my daughters off at SoFi for a concert, I had a few hours of sunlight left, so I decided to try out Westchester.

Executive course in a highly populated area, but I must say it was better than expected. Greens were very good which was amazing consider the amount of play out here. Fairways were decent, although goose poop is a common find. Watching the family of hawks on #2 catch a critter was some surprise entertainment, as was the group of 20-somethings two groups ahead that stopped after #2 to have a nice little smoke break.

I forgot a glove, so I played terrible, but Westchester was a fun little course on which to spend some time.

Played Saturday evening for the first time here. Was nervous going in given some of the horror stories I have heard. Was pleasantly surprised to find a fairly fun track in good shape for the money ($18). Tees were as expected on a par-3ish course and the worst part. Wrought with divots and mainly uneven but certainly playable. Fairways were a mixed bag, but had some nice areas. The rough was as expected on any public course in socal. Mixed grasses and lengths, but thankfully short enough to find wayward balls. The bunkers were thin but not the worst I have seen, you could definitely still get under the ball. The greens I thought were great for what this place is. Probably rolled a 9 and while there were unrepaired ball marks, they tended to be away from the holes making draining putts quite possible. We teed off at 630 and finished by 10pm busting out the glow balls around hole 5. All and all for $18 I can't think of a better deal in socal. Fun playing under the lights as well. Would recommend with tempered expectations.

Short review after my monthly golf group could only manage to find a spot for 16 people at Westchester this past weekend. There was a ton of maintenance work being done during prime hours which was a bit odd, but if you can drown out the sound of chainsaws and Boeing 747s, your game should be in great shape when you're somewhere much better. Due to said maintenance, there were large sections of GUR roped off that looked more like police 'Do Not Cross' ropes, but the message was the same. If avoided, you were likely to find some patchy fairways but some good sections as well, especially the fabled '15-16-17' triangle that plays like an entirely different course. Greens were quite bumpy and littered with coot afters, but actually ran surprisingly quick. Tee boxes pretty beat up and moved around to some weird spots with all the maintenance going on, while the bunkers actually had a quite nice layer of sand to them - at least the ones I got up close and personal with. Rough was completely manageable and often favorable. No cart service, no frills. We walked (most of us) and played from the back tees. Carts are very 'rustic' but get the job done. This is no frills golf but a swell place to really work on those short approaches, chipping and nailing the par 3s for distance. I actually matched my best-ever score here (71) so overall it was still a fun day despite not being the best of local courses. Westchester always gets a pass from me (well, almost always) for knowing what it does, doing it well, and not charging an arm and a leg for it. Great driving range as well if that's all you have time for.

Play this course every Monday with my foursome. We tee off at 8:52am and finish, consistently, at 12:30pm +/- 10 minutes. Course is a hybrid par 64 with one par 5. Nice to play this course in ... Continue »

Play this course every Monday with my foursome. We tee off at 8:52am and finish, consistently, at 12:30pm +/- 10 minutes. Course is a hybrid par 64 with one par 5. Nice to play this course in well under four hours. Greens are some of the best of any LA County or LA City course. Surprisingly, the fairways are in relatively good condition for early August!

Quick little twilight round under the local lights at Westchester yesterday. It's always fun to come back to the course that really started my golf obsession, and the last visit was no exception. Was feeling a bit lazy though so took a cart and played the blue tees with a 5:32pm tee time.

Condition wise the course is in pretty good shape but the greens are very heavily cratered with far too many ball marks ... not sure why this is so hard for people. Fixing your ball mark on a green should be a task of honor! But other than that, medium fast greens and well covered.

Fairways have nice coverage for the most part (only half the holes you'll need to worry about them) but definitely some thin areas and a few too many GUR hazards for my liking. Sand looked to be in very good shape and the tee boxes could use some love.

POP was relatively slow for a night round coming in right at four hours - we had a slow group in front of us and waited a decent bit, but it was a beautiful, warm night with some good friends, so we weren't too fussed. One complaint though - if you're going to be a night golf facility, then please make sure ALL the lights work. Too many burned out bulbs or something as some of the tee boxes were in complete darkness and that was frustrating. I wish they would invest in more lights, but I don't play night golf too often so it should not bother me.

Played Saturday. It should be mentioned that I play normally as a single. In this COVID-19 world with online booking for tee times encouraged; why do you offer twosome or larger only? I had to wait for the next business day to reserve a tee time which was no longer available. Had to settle for an afternoon tee time. No worries but still annoying. Tee boxes lush but mostly uneven. It's funny you see all the broken tees littering the tee box but you're hesitant to pick them up because they may be "contaminated." Personally they have been sitting in the sun for at least 20 minutes so perhaps it would be OK but that is just my personal opinion. That and the fact I carry with me hand sanitizer now in my bag I feel pretty confident with social distancing and not touching my face I should be OK. Fairways lush. Sand in bunkers OK. Thin layer of sand around greens with very thick layer of clay underneath. Loads of bounce but not to my personal liking. Saw bunker 3 times around greens. Rough was thick and sticky. Greens were slow early but started to speed up. Slow/Medium speed. Not a lot of break until the putt slows down. Loads of unfixed divots. Putts bumpy to smooth -- very inconsistent for line but speed remained fairly consistent. Pace of play was SLOW. It was a busy day. Practice greens closed. Short game area closed. Practice Range open with social distancing and masks. Considering; it's OK conditions. Not great but any golf right now is in my opinion a good thing. Just remember you are are responsible for you. That means YOU have to wash your hands often. YOU should avoid touching your face. YOU should keep your distance to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Or not, that is YOUR choice. My choice is if you don't do what I think is safe for me is to not hang around you. This is a free country BUT if you decide to patronize a business YOU must abide by their rules otherwise they have to right to refuse service. Not ranting here; just pointing out the obvious from the rash of opinions out there.

Played a quick round (literally 3 hours!) with Kassper7 at our local Executive course this past week and have good news to report. The greens are about as fine as I think I've ever seen them at Westchester. They are really clean, visually appealing and roll nice and true at medium-fast speed. This is pretty remarkable with the traffic this place gets. Fairways and rough have also benefitted from the recent rain, but there were some areas of large standing water and a lot of maintenance work being done to pump all the extra water out of the lake on the 2nd hole that's probably tripled in size. There's also a 'new' lake next to the tee box on the 4th hole and just right of the 2nd tee box if you shank it. But the rest of the fairways are in pretty nice shape. Sand is almost always good here but of course keeping the tee boxes in prime shape is difficult. I'm sure it will still be in great shape here for what you're paying if you go soon. And did I mention you can play night golf here? I never do, but you can! I also just realized that there aren't very many pictures of this course on GK so I'll take care of that next time I head over there. Almost always a fun, relaxed round at Westchester.

Greens rolled medium/slow with slight bumpiness but true. Fairways had great coverage. Rough was cut to same height as fairways so not an issue. Tee Boxes for the most part were uneven. I had to move a minimum 2 clubs behind the tee markers to find a flat spot.

Pace of play for Sunday was brisk. Fun but short course where your irons are key. Play here again? Of course... conditions here are consistent. The only issue would be paired with newbies but not an issue if you like to take your time. Case in point group behind us was literally 6 holes behind us by the time we finished our round. Really sour if you were caught behind that group.
