Teed off from the blues this morning at 7:45 with Brittany, Jake and John. Brittany & Jake were a little younger than me late 30’s early 40’s and both single digits meanwhile John was a little older 66 I think I heard him say, nonetheless after introductions on the tee off we went. It was a cold and lightly breezy morning which turned into a very windy day. John was the lone walker while the 3 of us rode. For as much play as these courses get I must say course is in very nice shape right now. Tee boxes mostly if not all level and the par 3’s have most divots filled in. After the first tee shots the waiting started, had to wait for the group in front of us all older men who did not hit very far and struggled most of the day. The fairways had nice roll out and were great to play from. Most of the flags today were in the front and with the wind and the quick speed of the greens it made putting a little tougher than usual. After the 2 par fives John kept complaining of no water fountains and I quirped “ who drinks from water fountains these days”. He got snarky and said “ not everyone is a rich dude”? I told him the group doesn’t care about drinking out of fountain and the other 2 said to just leave him but we carried on because there was no where to go. His business is not my business so I wish he wouldn’t have made it our business. Enough about him, the situation was just a little peculiar to say the least. Anyways back to the course, it is in as good of shape as I have ever seen it. The sand traps had rakes and very soft sand but brown while the bottles of sand on the carts were white.. For those who haven’t played it, it is a very enjoyable and walkable course and not overly difficult and it’s only 38.00 to walk. A good time was had by all and good on my other 2 mates who had to deal with the moronic rantings of a delusional sad person..

Headed out to Los Lagos with my high school buddy on a sunny, warm Tuesday afternoon, 9/28/21, at 1:15pm with light, steady winds. It’s been maybe 15 years since I played here, but it was pretty much as I remembered. These courses are always busy, and the nonchalant starter was practically pairing people up as they arrived on the first tee. Apparently a few short groups (2s and 3s) went off before us and the result was a very slow and steady progression around the course in just under 5 hours. We were paired with affable low-handicapper Hany and wildly erratic Lou, who spent most of the round looking at his phone.

Conditions were pretty much as expected and very playable. Greens were in good shape, holding shots well and rolling at medium+ speed with some bumpiness. Green speeds were consistent through the round. Fairway lies were usually good but we saw many thin/bare areas, but were firm enough to give pretty good rollout until late afternoon when temperatures dropped. Rough was generally fairly short but occasionally lush, and was sticky enough to require extra clubs and a challenge keeping shots on line. Tees were flat and set very wide. I was in one bunker with good sand.

Saw a cart girl several times but no other on –course employees. Bunkers and greens look like they have been shrunk in size since I last played here. Meat and potatoes golf, good for a casual round.

Teed off at 7:15 finishing in 4:10. Got to meet for the first time and play with fellow GKer sr129. Enjoyable company always makes for an enjoyable round. The greens had been verticut but rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. Unfortunately the greens were heavily watered making it difficult to predict release on pitch and chip shots. The fairways had mostly good coverage with some thin/bare spots. The rough was also primarily good with some thin/bare spots and long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The bunkers had plenty of sand but were a bit wet and compacted. The tee boxes had decent coverage. Los Lagos is and enjoyable layout with some rolling terrain and enough variety to keep things interesting. The staff was friendly.

Both courses will be closed Saturday 8/7 and Sunday 8/8 for the Costa Mesa City Championship. Teed off Thursday about 7:30 and finished in 4:05. The greens rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and played slightly firm. The fairways have mostly good coverage with some thin spots scattered about and had decent rollout. The rough was mostly good with some thin/bare areas and was not too penal. The bunkers were groomed and my playing partners didn't appear to have difficulties playing out of them. The tee boxes have mostly good coverage. The staff was friendly.

Played yesterday and although very crowded, pace of play was acceptable. Green fees are reasonable and easy walking course. I’ve never played a course where the tee markers were so wide! No complain... Continue »

Played yesterday and although very crowded, pace of play was acceptable. Green fees are reasonable and easy walking course. I’ve never played a course where the tee markers were so wide! No complaints and gives you a great variety of angles and good grass to tee it up. The fairways were mostly good but some bare areas more than I remember before. The sand traps were consistent and greens were rolling fast. The pin placements bordered on cruel on many holes and makes me wonder if the guys that set the pins even play golf! Made for quite the challenge. Still one of the easier courses to get a tee time and stand by if need be. So many courses are booked solid and impossible to get out. For as much play as they get it is a good challenge and I would recommend playing there.

Early morning tee time Thursday morning on Lagos. Check in still outside with masks required around clubhouse area. Tee boxes in very good shape with markers set very wide, fairways and rough were very lush and provided good lies. Bunkers in good shape but still no rakes. Greens were on the slow side with very few unfixed divots and firm on pitch and chip shots. POP was under four hours. Place was packed when we finished.

Teed off Monday morning about 7:25 finishing in 4:15. The greens are in good condition (they will be aerated next week) rolling medium/fast, held shots, and mostly smooth. The fairways have overall good coverage with a few thin spots. Unfortunately they sometimes let the fairways get to long which provides little roll. That was the case this round but the lies are good to hit from. The rough is mostly good with enough length to affect shots but not too penal. There are some thin/bare spots but its the rough. The bunkers are groomed and very playable but still no rakes. The tee boxes are mostly level with decent coverage.

The driving range, putting green, and chipping green are all open. Check in is at the walk up window to the pro shop. The staff was friendly.

Los Lagos is in pretty decent shape all things considered. Played 3/7 and while slow for the first 7 holes or so it got a bit better and we finished in just under 5 hours, which in the OC on a weekend public course is average to good imho. Nothing too special regarding the layout, pretty standard fare for a decently priced track. A bit long for some and not enough bump up to the white tees which can be an issue on the lengthy par 3's. They seem to focus care on the greens which I guess is what you want, grass is patchy in some places but for where the course is located I'd say the course is on point in regards to value for your dollar.

Very walkable course as well, always a big bonus.

Played yesterday and it was crowded! Almost waited in every hole. They need to space the tee times out a bit to make it more enjoyable. Past that...I’ve never played a course with wider tee box markers in my life! That gives you many options to play and the tees were lush with great grass. The fairways were fairly lush with some areas that were bare. The sand traps were consistent and fluffy sand. The greens were in great condition rolling medium to fast and true. The course is a nice challenge with a few water holes and challenging starting out with 2 par 5’s right out of the box. The Los Lagos course is a good track and of the 2 courses there it is my favorite. They do have a Marshall to help move things along and a drink cart too. 2 practice greens and the driving range has choice of mats and or grass. They also have a chipping green near the first hole and clubhouse with ample tables outside for beverages after . Do try and play there if you can, reasonable rates.
