We used to play here often until they started over pricing themselves. Our traveling club held many tournaments here through the years. So this was the first time back here in about five years...and with the economy, prices have come back a bit. This is a very fun course and the conditions were quite good. Tees were great, fairways were all in pretty good shape and the greens putted smoothly. All said, the golfing part was great....now to the bad part.
We got there at 8:30 to have breakfast before our 10:00 tee time only to find out the restaurant doesn't open in the mornings Mon.-Fri. But I was told I could order food from the snack bar. I ordered a breakfast burrito, but was told it had been pre-made and the nuked in the microwave. When I tried to eat it, the tortilla was gooey and all I got was a molten hot glob of cheese that burnt the crap out of my mouth with abosolutely no flavor...into the trash it went. When I mentioned this to the gentleman in the pro shop, he said that they tell people about a local coffe shop down the street...wish I would have known. I understand cut backs, but for a food and beverage manager to allow this...he should be replaced. It was no wonder when we got done, there was not one person in the restaurant. Or does this fall on the G.M. for not watching out for his golfers?

Played here 9/13/13, (2) days after aeration of half of each green. Knowing greens had been punched, I ended up being pleasanntly surprised. While I typically avoid punched greens until they have had at least 2-3 weeks to recover, I thought I'd give this local course a chance with the promise of pin positions on the good side. One half of greens punched and sanded, but other half was very playable and receptive. In fact, if you hit the sanded side, they held as well, and while putting through some sand occassionally, overall I found the entire course to be very playable.
Fairways in good condition, tee boxes in good shape, and the couple of bunkers I played from were excellent. Only concern here is how evenly the greens will heal, given the other half will be punched in a week or two. Good layout, requires a number of different clubs from the tee. Good service inside and out.

I had always heard great things about this course. So, we decided to play this past Sunday (9/8) and booked a tee time. This course at its present conditions is like a municipal course on the front 9 and country club status on the back 9. Having an early start we expected some dew, but the course was completely over-watered on the front 9. Fairway lies and areas around the green were soggy and mushy. The greens were full of pitch marks that were un-repaired and really affected the roll of the ball. Most greens on the front 9 looked like someone just went out there and decided to hit 200 golf balls onto the greens and didn't bother to repair any pitch marks. Things turned for the positive on the back 9, where somehow the greens looked completely different than the front. It was as if the front 9 greens were like a muni course and the back 9 greens belonged to a Country club. I was very impressed with the beauty, true roll, and interesting lay-out on the back 9. The course really sets you up to where all you see is the hole that you are playing and don't see other golfers around for the most part. The pace of play was amazingly fast, albeit we took our time without being rushed--we finished in exactly 4 hours! The course is also not particularly long, (never pulled driver out) and most holes I pulled a 4-iron on my drives from the tips just to lay up to a safe landing zone; since any errant shots will cost you a few lost balls and penalty strokes. Course management and accuracy is definitely a must here on this course! Would I come back and pay $90 for the course? NO. It still wasn't worth that rate, but it does have the potential if they do something about those greens and fairways on the front 9.

Played 9-1-13, Course was very enjoyable. Teed off at 1pm and played in under 4 hours on a sunday. Fairways were nice but not great. Tee boxes were spotty. Greens and bunkers were both very good. Greens were medium speed and ran true and the sand was raked and fluffy.

It was well worth the 65$ greens fee we payed and the layout is nicely woven throughout the hills and hey, I shot my first round in the 60's (69) so how could I not write a positive review!!

Note: I didn't use driver off 1 tee, accuracy is a must and distance from the tips still isnt long (6500 yd). Enjoy!

We played today @ Noon and finished @ 4PM. Have been wanting to play here after reading the reviews and recent articles. We really enjoyed the layout. The starter was someone I had played with at Arroyo Trabuco and he advised us as to what tees to play and what to be aware of (very useful). Very good driving range (mats) and putting green to warm up on. The condition of the course was very good. Level tee boxes (though some did have sand on them but no effect); well mowed fairways that provided good lies and excellent roll; greens were just great. All the greens provided excellent putting surfaces; roll on chips and approaches and held their line w/o fail. I thought the 7th hole with its 150 foot drop to the fairway was a great hole, as well as the par 3 8th which might be one of the best par 3's in S CA. In fact I really enjoyed the par 3's on the course (great designs). Great finishing hole over a creek (hit a long long drive). Course is very enjoyable and one that I recommend very highly. Customer service was excellent, from the front desk, starter, marshal and cart service. Excellent GPS in the carts that is very very helpful. If you have not played here, you really should.

played for the first time here on a weekday afternoon, got placed immediatley after a scramble tournament, so the round was EXCRUCIATINGLY slow. took over 5 hours to complete. ugh. it's a tricky little course, would benefit from course knowledge beforehand. takes driver out of your hands for a lot of holes, would be teeing off with an iron on quite a few of them. some nice views and challenging holes. fairly target golf-y. if you're off your mark by a few yards, your ball is probably gone into the bushes. the service was fairly poor, as there were no carts available when i checked in, pro shop didn't tell us where to go or what to do, but that's fairly standard for an american golf course. condition of the course including fairways, rough, and tee boxes were in general all in fine condition, not awesome, not a dirt track. greens were running fairly slow, bumpy, and had ballmarks all over. i'd be back, mostly for the interesting layout, if i knew i didn't have to be there for 5 hours.

Played Coyote Hills yesterday as part of an annual tournament I’m involved with at different Orange County courses. This was my first time playing all 18 at Coyote Hills Golf Course and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Everything about the course was in great shape. Greens were rolling smooth, soft and about a 10 speed. Fairways completely out of dormancy and lush, rough lush at 2 to 3 inches, bunkers well maintained with excellent quality sand and tee boxes mostly level/well groomed. I found the design very interesting and beautiful with many elevation changes, dog-legs and variety. It’s a narrow target golf set-up with difficult greens and well protected green complexes. The only negative in my mind was the many oil pumps scattered through-out. The only oil pump I saw in play although was the right side of hole one. As part of the tournament I was treated to lunch and dinner…the food was delicious. I was also impressed with the friendly professional staff. If ANYONE has an “OC Golf Trail Card” right now is the time to use it for Coyote Hills. I highly recommend playing this course and expect it to be in great shape this entire Summer. Played today 5/28 had a 7:20 tee time and got out on time. Good customer service all around.

The course - It was in good shape but have seen it in much better shape. The tee boxes were fairly level with a few divots. Fairways were bownish, and have not started to heal from the punching, don't know when that was done. The greens looked good but rolled slow, could still see where they had been aerated with cuts not punched. The bunkers were inconsistent, some had nice deep fluffy sand, others were firm underneath.

Cart girl came around 3-4 times during our round, marshall came by once. Fees was not bad, $49 for seniors.
