Played here this afternoon with the LA Golf Group. I always enjoy the target golf layout of Coyote, but mistakes can add up quickly here. I was in the lead group off at 1:30 and we never had to wait too much. Not a super quick pace, but decent on a busy Sunday afternoon. Maybe just a bit over 4.5 hours. The course conditions left something to be desired. We were playing the blue tees, so not a lot of drivers being used and there was plenty of divot damage. The fairways were firm and fast semi-dormant bermuda, so plenty of roll out and very tight lies to hit from. The rough was very spotty with grass coverage, but they kept it cut short, so it was never too penal other than a few chunky sidehill lies to contend with. The greens were soft and looked nice. I felt the greens on the course rolled slower than the practice green and were also bumpy at times. I was in a few bunkers and they were all decent. However, I did find it weird that the fairway bunkers have beautiful white fluffy resort sand and the greenside ones didn't quite look or play as nicely. We got a twilight group rate of $65, which still seems pretty overpriced. I do enjoy this layout a lot, but it's another OC course that just seems like too much $$ to play on a regular basis. I will say the staff was great and we saw the cart girl several times on a warm day.

Played on 4/6/15 with stabbed greens but only 1/2 of each green was done. Overall the course was in nice shape for this time of year. Fairway grass still a little dormant so the balls run out, greens a little firm but rolled true where the flags were set, traps were inconsistent but playable, and everything else was rated real good. Here's is the deal we got!
Tee time was at 2:20 and we were charged $45pp which included cart, range balls, 2 beers, and a sandwich. I have always thought that Coyote is over-priced but this deal was well worth our efforts. The course is very difficult especially from the back tees but has always been fun to play.

Played today in 4 hours. But could have easily been much better, if the marshal had said some things to the group in front? And adding insult/injury we went off early. Check in was great. Got our "special" and went to the range. Course was a little "scruffy" to start, given the overnight moisture (both nature wise and maintenance wise). Tee boxes were fine. Fairways (bermuda) are just coming out of winter doldrums and starting to fill in. But most of the lies I had were of the tight type and took some time to adjust. Sand traps did not cause any issues/complaints. Greens were wet/soft to begin, so firing at the pin was best course of action (and they held). Surprised it took several hours for the overcast to burn off, so we really only got 5/6 holes that provided good fairway roll and faster putts. I always enjoy playing here, as the layout is really enjoyable. But I sincerely hope the next time I play, the pace of play is regulated better. I am sure the group behind us felt the same way? Customer service in the restaurant was top notch and the food was very good as well.

no marshall seen (maybe it was late in the day?) but pace was decent compared to last time. finished 10 holes in about 2 1/2 hours.
snack bar was open. no bev cart.

played last weekend just before 3pm. finished 9 holes in almost 3 hours. POP was horrible. no marshalls seen at all. we were 3some and had a 2 some join us and still were waiting for the group of 4 in front who was waiting for the group of 4 in front. not sure exactly where it was that was holding up play but it was just horrifying how long it took to play. The course is not long but there are lots trouble and wayward balls will be lost forever!

Conditions are decent considering the drought. Fairways are brown but playable. greens are receptive, smooth with a few holes having some unrepaired ballmarks.

Pro-staff was excellent and checkin was a breeze. No bev cart but snack bar was open and staff was also friendly.

Driving range was open and I believe they were hitting off mats.

I have not played here for a couple of year as it had gotten a bit expensive and the course isn't close to my home so I was happy to see it was on our oc golf trails card and was amped to play it agai... Continue »

I have not played here for a couple of year as it had gotten a bit expensive and the course isn't close to my home so I was happy to see it was on our oc golf trails card and was amped to play it again at reasonable rate. Man has everything changed for the better here the greens were smooth and fast the fairways were in great shape and pace of play was much faster. Heck they even cut the green fees, so what's not to love well the traps are not world class and the tee boxes are not real flat but this place is still interesting and a lot of fun. I think they play a lot of tournaments here so a make your reservation early and enjoy a quality golf course at a good rate

I haven't played here for about 4 years until this week and I was shocked at the condition. They had a special fo $49 for senior, including breakfast, lunch, 2 drinks and range balls. Too good to be true.

This course had always been an upscale public course - now it is just a middling muni - note the sub 6 rating vs 7+ in years past. Tee boxes were full of bare spots, fairways were weedy and full of holes, rough was non-existent and traps were either great or closed. Greens were very soft and bumpy. Didn't see one person maintaining the course during the round, thus the condition was not unexpected. I don't know why American Golf has let this course deteriorate so much but it's clear that the 'deal' was made to get some players back to the course. I expect the number of golfers will drop dramatically after the special expires on 12/19.

Played on 11/18/14, with a friend and two of his friends, one of whom picked up the tab on his expense account. Arrived early, and hit balls on the practice range - good balls, but range mats a little worn. Practice green was in good shape, rolling true and medium/fast. Starter was active in trying to get us to the first tee on time, telling us our position status while we hit balls on the range. Due to the hunger of 3 members of our group, we were late to the first tee, so the starter put a group of 2 ready to play in front of us - I totally agree that was the right thing to do, as our group wasn't ready when our turn came. So we teed off 15 minutes after our reservation time, but that's OK.
Overall, course conditions were pretty good, but not great. Tee boxes varied from lush to thin, with some bare spots, and many tee positions set on slight turtle backs. Fairways were good, considering the drought, with some areas so wet that they were marked as ground under repair. Rough was generally consistent, lush and 1 to 3 inches deep, but not penal. I didn't play out of any bunkers, but judging my playing partners who played from the sand, it appeared to be good - the exception being hole #3, where two bunkers had deep standing water. Though the greens were slightly shaggy, they "looked" good, but rolled medium speed at best, and were very bumpy. Several well struck putts veered off line as they bounced and bumped toward the hole. As usual, there were far too many ball marks left unrepaired by groups ahead.

Pace of play was decent -we teed off at 12:25PM, and finished at about 4:45PM, with a stop at the turn to get hot dogs and drinks. Somehow, a group of three slid in ahead of us on the tenth tee, but other than waiting for them there, they were never a factor after that point.

Drink cart service came around at three different points on the course, and overall service was fine.

For a discounted greens fee, I would consider playing here again, but full fare not worth it, in my opinion.

played in the early weekday afternoon. course is in pretty decent condition. i actually like the layout which gives a variety of holes and you don't use driver on every hole. tee boxes, fairways okay, rough is not grown out so it's pretty open. greens run slower than expected and were a little on the shaggy side. tough thing here was the POP. after 3.5 hours we were still on 12. hard to wait on every shot. won't be back until this improves.
