I don't know why, but this course is my own personal kryptonite... never play well here. A short and fairly simple layout. Tee boxes could use some work but not bare by any means. Definitely uneven at spots. Fairways are cut well but a little dry and bare. Greens were actually rolling clean and some are a bit of a challenge. Sandtraps are really poor... like concrete. Rough is high and vast... really no 'first cut' around the fairways perse. Although the fairways are wide open any roll to the rough is a 2-3 min task to find your ball. Also, tall rough around the greens makes for a tough recovery. Overall, for $40 or so, a good value. Pace of play was suprisingly fast this time around (4:30) even with a SLOW 5-some in front. Not a must play, but good for golf on a budget.

Once again American Golf has decided to make $$$$ rather than spend some money on the upkeep of the course. It's sad because of the amount of PROFITS they take from the City Of Huntington Beach, and really dont give a d%mn about the play or from the golfers point of view. Maybe thats because both the GM and the Asst GM dont play, and the District Manager is a former baseball player. I'd make a bet that if the DM was overseeing baseball fields, he would totally have that dialed in for the baseball players and their experience of the ball parks! Its a Saturday, one of the busiest days on the course, and you see no management coming out to see how the play is, or even being somewhat friendly. The little things that AGC management misses, no wonder they went from 300 courses to 180! Lease is up in 10 years, maybe some local people will take the management lease away from AGC, so that OC and Huntington Beach golfers can have a better golfing experience.

Expect sticky grass to hold ball so low punches must get up off the ground. Some drainage problem in fairway but mostly in rough. Tee boxes are flat and very nice. Play is slow for this notoriously slow course but they the girls there are pretty so something to do while you wait :D

Bring your 4x4 ball folks. Greens are exceptionally bumpy and when they dry up like they did when the wind picked up extremely fast for bumpy greens. Thought they were aireating the greens but found out they were doing it mid-April. Fairways are lush. Play was SLOW. We were a fivesome beating down the door of a foursome. Some course knowlege is a plus as course plays short and you bombers out there may have to tee off with a 5-iron to keep the ball in play on a few of the holes. Still a challenge, makes you use clubs you wouldn't otherwise to make the grade. Overall course in great shape. Can't complain about the slow play since Meadowlark is afterall a notoriously slow course to begin with.

Played on a Sunday. Some trouble at the starter as they lost my online reservation and wouldn't honor discounted rate. For the discounted rate, it is pretty fair value, at regular ($51 to ride), it is a bit expensive.

The fairways are wide open and well maintained... hardly a bare spot to be found. Tee boxes well kept and level. The greens are a bit hard and bumpy, but decent.

My only issue is the layout. Nice water hazards at parts but the tee boxes are almost always directly behind previous green and with a course like this (i.e. less expensive) the 'FOURS!' fly all over the place.

Also, pace of play is SLOWWWW. For my foursome with decent golfer (Handicaps 8 - 20 range), let's just say it wasn't because of us...

Have not played here in a while but obviously I returned too soon. Fairways were very thin with lots of bare spots. Greens were bumpy with ball marks. Bunkers were dirt. I only paid $13 dollars for a 5+ hr round and still felt like I overpaid!

We had the first tee time on Thursday and it was great. No waiting, no footprints on the greens. The course, especially the greens, was in great shape. They were working on the cart path on the par 3 tenth, and there was a lot of tree trimming going on. If that kind of thing bothers you, you might want to call first.
This layout is a real confidence builder...great for ladies, juniors, and seniors.
