Played yesterday with my brother and our wives for Valentine's Day. 9:30 tee time and finished right at 4hrs. Things moved great and there was not many people out there at 9am. It definitely was busier when we finished, but we had no problem.

Check in easy and fast. Conditions are just average right now. Teeboxes were fine, a little unlevel, but plenty of coverage, just take some extra time to find a good level stance. Fairways were pretty awful. Lots of bare patches and different grasses growing throughout. Others in my group were playing winter rules, which is recommended if you can. Didn't find any bunkers, but they looked ok as long as you gave yourself a break for footprints, please bring back rakes, this is getting ridiculous!! Rough wasn't penal, only about an inch or so longer than fairways. Greens were the highlight, for sure. They were a little hard and fast, but held shots for the most part, maybe a little more rollout than normal, but they putted smooth. The greens on the back nine are diabolical, so beware. No beverage cart, so stock up at the turn. $66 to ride is pretty steep for this place, but we enjoyed our round nonetheless.

Played yesterday, Labor Day. Teetime at 1:20 and went out about 10mins early. POP was actually great for this place, finished in 4hrs. Surprisingly not too busy for a holiday. $50 to ride and I walked for $36, not bad for a holiday. Have to book a foursome riding online and then they reimburse you if someone doesn't show or if you don't want the cart.

Conditions remain playable for this place. It doesn't ever seem to be outstanding, but it's not deplorable. Teeboxes had ok coverage, but some aren't very level. Fairly easy to find a decent place to tee it up. Fairways were rather long and "patchy", especially on the front nine. Back nine fairways were much nicer. Bunkers were in playable condition all around. Soft sand for the most part, so you were able to place it a decent spot if you were in a footprint or area that's normally raked. Greens were soft and held shots very well. They were a little bumpy and had tons of ball marks, but it wasn't a huge distraction and everyone made some nice putts. Didn't see the beverage cart, not sure if they have one here? Snack bar open at the turn, plus we brought our own beverages.

Covid precautions were weird. Masks at check in then not required elsewhere. They have a weird driving range system. You need to sign up online and pay $12 for unlimited balls. They have range "sessions" and the next one started at 1pm, so we didn't have time to hit balls. Very strange. Tons of people hanging outside the entrance to the bar, no social distancing or masks on. Just sitting there drinking beers and chatting it up.

Now the super strange part: we took my father along for the ride as this was literally my first round playing with my two older brothers (my oldest just started playing 6 months ago and he's a natural). Plus, we just buried my grandfather (my dad's dad) on Sunday, so we thought it would be a good destraction for my dad (he used to play a lot, but bad shoulders have sidelined him for a couple of years). So after playing the front nine without any problems, one of the staff (name withheld, not important here) came out to the tenth teebox to say my dad needed to leave immediately. The "manager" said it was due to their Covid restrictions and they didn't allow 5 people in the same group. We didn't put up much of a fight and I tried to reason with him about the passing of my grandfather, but it didn't help, so off my dad went, he drove separately and my parents live very close. So we were very bummed but didn't let it get us down. However, we come off the 16th green and I noticed 5 ladies playing in the same group coming off the 13th green. HMMM!! Seems to go against their 5 person policy? yet, the ladies were able to play as a fivesome. Very poor policy management system!! I've already written an email this morning to Meadowlark, haven't received a response yet, and I doubt I will. Enough of my rant, I will avoid this course if I can help it.

Played the Lark on 8/29 820. Nice to get out and play again after some time off. Weather was pretty perfect. Course is pretty good for what it is, at least that's what my playing partners said who play here often. Customer service nice, but not outstanding. Very light COVID-19 precautions but they were there. Tees were definitely the low light, followed by the over watered fairways. Rough just ok, bunkers looked awful but can't comment we all avoided them all day someone. Greens were the highlight, probably overall about a 7, with too many divot holes keeping it from being higher. Certainly faster than I expected. Overall pretty good for 37$ walking I'd rate it out to a 6-6.5. Would come back because I enjoy the oddities of this course, but definitely understand some peoples distaste.

It had been almost 12 years since I’d played Meadowlark. I usually avoid due to odd layout, poor pace of play, and typically underwhelming conditions. However, given the limited options for play due to the Covid 19 I thought I’d give it another chance. At the end of the round, knowing this is probably the last time I’ll be able to play before full lockdown, I’d say under this circumstance is about the only time I can recommend playing.

There is no discernible fairway and what was there was muddy. I saw a lot of water on this course - standing puddles everywhere. Tee shots have zero roll out. Greens are like mounds instead of clean putting surfaces. Tee boxes are massively uneven at times with huge slopes.

The layout is also undesirable- really short but also tight. A lot of ducking for your life because tee boxes and greens are so close together.

For $60 and only 2-3 other courses open, maybe consider playing given the lack of alternatives. But once this lunacy is over, I cannot recommend Meadowlark.

Played today, Saturday. Called a few days ago and got a 12:30 time. $25 to walk, pretty good rate for a weekend, I think my brother and wife paid $42 to ride. Easy walking course.

Everything is in playable condition. Nothing was outstanding, but this place gets a lot of play. POP was just under 5hrs, to be expected. Teeboxes were level enough to find a place to tee it up. Fairways had a lot of mixed grass, but I had pretty good lies all day, no complaints. Didn't find any bunkers, but they looked ok. Greens were in pretty good shape, but they didn't hold shots very well. I haven't played this course for years and I forgot how sloped and "crowned" the greens are. I guess they're the only defense on this short course. Overall, had a great time. Am I in a hurry to get back? Probably not. But it's fun and I'd recommend for the price, for sure.

An older friend who lives in Huntington Beach suggested we play here because it was close to his home and said that this is his "home course", so I agreed to return. It isn't that I dislike this course, its more that I feel it is somewhat over priced and the prior reviews reflected the condition was questionable. I guess in part because I went in with a less than positive attitude, I played like crap and scored higher on this short course than other more difficult courses.

The condition of the course isn't really all that bad, remembering that it's winter time and all the courses are suffering right now. Greens were slower than I prefer and were bumpy. However the fairways had more grass than almost any of the other courses I've played recently. Maybe because it was more of a "social round" and I had very little focus. (That's my excuse for the poor play) I could never really get into the round.

In all fairness, there are some fun holes on this course and several which will test your skills, but since I brought no "skills" to the course, hard to appreciate the course today.

Played Meadowlark on Sunday the 12th. It has been a while since I have been here and It pretty much was what I expected. Greens were firm and held well struck shots fine but if not well struck, ball did not hold. They were about medium speed and bumpy, so some putts held the line, others, not so much. Traps had plenty of sand and fairways were lush and nice to play from. Rough brutal in spots and bare in others.
Customer service was great and saw the cart girl a few times. Bring a helmet and a good attitude and you will be alright but the layout is always fun and has some challenges that a short course like this should have that makes it really fun to play. You can score if you are hitting it well but if not, good luck.

After many years of staying away, and for good reason, decided to chance a round. Green fee walking on a Friday was very fair. Wet, muddy conditions all around. E.g., Casual water, almost a pond, in front of 1 green. Brutal to hit out of thick, mushy rough. Hadn't rained in couple of weeks, so I didn't understand over-watered conditions. Pace was brutally slow. Greens are small, some are domed, presumably as protection for the short distances on many par 4s. On #1 you realize the tricks the course designer put in as there is a large tree just in front of green, blocking 75% of any approach. Beginners gather here so extra time, without a thought for etiquette, taken to search for errant shots as you watch from behind. Range balls are kept in large plastic tubs, unwashed. Every ball was muddy. Won't return to play on poorly maintained course.

While in HB yesterday, decided to play here. Still way to wet to enjoy. Most of all fairways were still wet from standing water. Off of hole # 5 there is a small lake right in front of the tee box. The rough was high/wet and unplayable. Traps still had standing water. Greens were looking good, but were soft and slow. Customer service was excellent. Carts were "supposed" to use 90 degree rule, but many did not comply. Leaving some fairways with deep muddy ruts. Pace of play was very slow due to conditions and slow players. Will wait until some time in the future before returning. I will also not rate due to conditions beyond the course control.
