Got out for a 7:40 tee time with a good friend on Monday, 12/19. It has been a long time since I have played Meadowlark, at least 15 years and was anxious to give it a try. Not many folks playing at this hour so the starter sent us right to the tee. A twosome was in front of us but no one was behind us so it was definitely a leisurely pace. Done in about 3.5 hours on a really nice day. Because it was so long since I had played here, I was really looking forward to it. $42 to ride on a weekday seemed a bit steep for this course but I guess that’s the Orange County influence eh? The course is in nice shape however. Fairways are in really nice condition. Lush and nice lies in the fairway. Looks like they could use a lawn mower though. Same with the tee boxes. Really lush but need to mowed. Greens were another story. Most of them were pretty chewed up. The starter mentioned that the greens were a little slow in recovering from being aerated. He was right. Interestingly, they still rolled pretty fast and they are tricky. Get on a downhill slope and you could roll to the other side of the green. Wasn’t in any sand traps but they looked damp and firm. The course is not long, par 70 and around 5,500 yards but I wouldn’t call it easy. It has a mix of short and long par 4’s but only two par 5’s. Water is in play on a couple of holes so you need to be aware of where to hit it. When we walked off at the end of our round, we could see there were a lot of players ready to go out. Nice to see this on a Monday. Seems like it gets a lot of play which is always good. I heard there are specials that can be found on line and will look for them next time out.

It had been almost 7 years to the day since I last played Meadowlark. Our threesome had the first time off at 6:36am on this drizzly Monday morning. Perhaps because of the weather, it wasn't all that busy, so we were able to actually wait until 6:36 to tee off. Couldn't see the first few shots, but that's normal for me this time of year.

The course looked to be in nice shape, green grass in the fairways, but when we got to the greens, not so good. Maybe due to the weather, they didn't cut the greens because they were very slow and very bumpy ! They were soft enough, but being so slow/bumpy, nobody made any putts. I was in two greenside bunkers, and they were fantastic. Lots of sand, well manicured, just like they should be. Tee boxes were good, rough was spotty, but acceptable.

I enjoy this short interesting course, but still think they charge too much $$ to play here. Probably would have enjoyed it more had it been a dry/warm, sunny day. (But they I probably would have run into a lot of back nine play, of which there was none today, so I guess everything balances out?

Played yesterday during the Ryder Cup (Thank you DVR) on unusually uncrowded day, but it still took 5 hours to get around (still trying to figure out why). One of the nice things about the online tee times on Meadowlarks website is that you can book as a single and they don't take your credit card info to hold the time. Meadowlark is a par 70 course that is 5500+ from the tips. the fun thing about this course is the elevation changes. A few short par fours are very rick/reward holes, I played safe and was rewarded with two birdies. The par 3's on this course are difficult holes, length, water, crowned greens, a little of everything. Conditions were nice, with the sand traps being the best part of the course. tee boxes on some holes could use a makeover and leveling. greens were in decent to good shape, a few ball marks but I have seen a lot worse. fairways were in good shape and the rough was thick with a few thin areas. It's a walkable course, but there are a few hills to climb. I really enjoyed the round and would come back.

Played today around 2 after not playing for about 6 months, wasn't too busy, they have new carts, awesome food and staff. I expected it to be a little chewed up, which it was at parts but all together I thought the course was in good shape. Only had to pay $21 with a cart. Go out and play this course! It's short enough for the shorter hitters but still brings a good challenge despite being only 5500 yards. Tough par 3s, short par 4s that make you think, alot of hills/slopes, and my favorite finishing hole I've played.

Played Wednesday morning, schedule tee time 7:24. Due to a mix up with the pro-shop we when I booked the round we were offered a tee-time before the $30 round with cart we were seeking. We should have tee'd off at 9am, or later. We were offered 7:24 or 8:30 and took 7:24. When I arrived we were initially billed the $48 dollar rack rate. The pro-shop was kind enough to extend the $30 rate after we showed shock and dismay. They were really cool about it.

We had breakfast in the course restaurant, very well prepared and very reasonable, with excellent service. We tee'd off on time with another retiree named Jerry, who was a very good player, and great company.

The tee boxes were in excellent condition, and the course from the first tee on was visually in perfect condition. My round didn't start well as I lost my GPS on the first hole (watch style) when I duffed my tee shot. Searched in vain in the low light of sunrise, and was mentally out of it for the next several holes.

Well the course looked perfect lush fairways, green, deep 3" to 4" rough, the course was severely over watered in many spots, and we would even have sprinklers going on the back nine as we played. On more than one occasion I hit nice shots into the fairway, only to find my ball in mud, or water soaked grass that made a clean shot difficult. This behavior carried over with vengeance into the rough. A perfect fairway lie shouldn't result in a ball misbehaving because of mud, or the club decelerating in wet grass. It's a little more understandable if your in the rough.

All but two greens were in excellent shape, there were two that could be used as a stadium motocross course.

There were an abundance of pin placements towards the front of the greens, with many on false fronts, or crowns that made a two or three inch miss beyond the cup, a trip off the green. (never seen this lay out in lots of play on this course).

The bunkers which I had the misfortune to sample several were in relatively poor condition. Sand was thin, hard packed, and in many cases like the fairway wet. Explosion shots were nearly impossible.

Weather was great, typical of Meadowlarks proximity to the coast.

The pin placements made the course far more challenging than it normally is, and it has it's challenges. The placements where however fair. The over watering took what would have been a really nice course and made the result much less satisfactory. The bunkers need some attention, but clearly weren't the worst I have seen.

Value for the money is great, facilities are in excellent condition, staff is friendly and welcoming, carts are clean and work well. This is still my second favorite course, and if it were dry which in some spots I don't think happened even later in the day it would have been wonderful.

07/09/16 Played at 1:00 on a Saturday which we got on the internet for a $25 special. There always seems to be a special if you book online. I like this course, it's a bit on the short side but it's got a variety of challenges. For the most part it's always in decent shape. The greens are green, no dead patches and roll fairly well given it's a public course. The fairways aren't the best, there are a number of thin spots throughout the course but nothing severe. The sand traps have decent quality sand, not many rocks and they're not thin so they're a fair test. Most of the time the pace of play is fairly good but weekends can get bit slow... today was 5 hour round but the weather was good, we had a nice breeze so very comfortable. Overall this is a good course to play especially if you can find a special.

Course conditions were pretty decent, all around. Greens were a little wet, but it was a pretty hot and humid day, so better safe than sorry.
Lots of juniors and oldsters there. Ladies day started at 8am. A good, short course for all three of those demographics. $25 to walk.

Joined my brother for a 1220 round yesterday. We played as a fivesome which this is the only couse you can do that because no matter what it is a slow round. POP was 5hr 10min but didnt feel slow after the first 6 holes. This course is a good place to use long irons or 3 woods as the holes are not overly long. The Cart girl came by a few times and the Marshall was motoring around the course but never said hi to us :(.

Tee's- this is the only real downfall to the course as the tee were put at the tips which is fine but the ground was very uneven and quite a few divots on every tee. That being said you could still find a halfway decent place to tee it up

Fairways- fairways are great and lots of coverage but as the previous review stated a little over water or drainage issue's left some muddy spots that were not marked off.

Rough- the fairway round had good coverage and was anywhere from 1 inch to 3 inches. but around the green we saw some rough areas about 4-5 inches and very penal.

Greens- The greens keeper was still a fan of the us open and put the pins in very tough locations and everyone who has played her know that every green has at least on false edge that will roll you ball off and in to the fairway/ rough which is tough when you land a ball 5-10 ft from the pin but it rolls off. Also when you putt past the hole by 2 inches and it ends up in the fairway made for our skins game to have a lot of drama.

Sand- Unlike Sat i did not find the sand at all today so I had that going for me which was nice. My group however was in it quite often and they seem to have no complaints.


I love this course and you can always find a deal but just a fair warning make sure to book online on their website or Golf Now because it gives you a discount compared to rack rate.
