Enjoyable day at noon on Friday, 6/29/12, with GKers sixpez, ringworld, and swing18 on a perfect golf day. Just enough wind to moderate the bright sunshine. Greens surprisingly good - looked great, held shots, and rolled well at medium speed. Sixpez made a couple comments about bumpiness, but I thought they were pretty smooth. Good lies in the fairways, but rough lies were inconsistent. Sand was inconsistent in texture, with some damp/firm and some fluffy, but plenty of sand and in good condition.

No cart girl, but water was available, several bathrooms, food OK at the turn with good prices. Surprised that course was not more crowded at noon now that school is out, but when we finished there were quite a few people there, including juniors classes, etc. Recommended.

Played the Classic course this afternoon with fellow GKers dconnally, ringworld and swing18golf. We had a good time out there and the weather was absolutely perfect for golf. A little wind made some tough holes even tougher, but not too bad. Overall, both Mile Square courses are pretty forgiving with wide landing areas and not too much trouble to get into as long as you stay out of the trees. Very flat course. I do think these courses are a tiny bit overpriced for what you get (not as bad as some OC courses, though).

Surprisingly, it wasn't too crowded out there, so we didn't run into another group until late on the back nine. Overall, it was about a four hour round, so not bad out here on a Friday. The course was in decent condition. The greens were in nice shape, very soft and rolled at good speeds I thought. The fairways were mostly green with some patchy/dead areas scattered throughout. Nothing that affected play too much. Rough was cut pretty short, so not penalizing and the bunkers seemed to be pretty nice. An OK course in decent shape.

Played early this morning, Sun 6/10/12, w/some buddies. Been about 2-3 months since my last visit here (and played "Players" last outing). We were a 4-some that teed off from Blues at approx 6:40am. Walked off 18 @ approx 11:10am. 4.5 hrs is "ok", esp since its Sunday & all 4 of us walked the course. Green fee = $50 (walking rate)

Tee Boxes - 3.5 stars. Pretty lush & level. Very few instances (like maybe 2 or 3 holes) where box was "semi" beat up w/divots. But was easily able to locate/position to a level spot, at each box, where I was completely comfortable. For a muni, solid!

Fairways - 3.25 stars. Lush & well groomed for the most part. Only 2 instances, that I can recall, seeing brown spots. Not too may divots (& when I did notice a divot, was filled w/sand). For a muni course, I think the FW are just short of excellent.

Rough - 3.25 stars. Avg length between 1-1.5 inches. Def not short, but also not a bear to hit out of. On the par-5's, I would get into rough, but still manage to hit solid 3-wood out of it...

Bunkers - 3.5 stars. Luckily, I only got into 1 FW bunker for the whole round. When I was in it, pretty much powder-like.

Greens - 3.5 stars. Those who know/play M.S. (whether Classic or Players) know that this is their absolute strength. Smooth, nearly ZERO marks, beautiful in color. Putts rolled true. Firm and medium-fast. For a muni course, they certainly challenge some "resort" courses IMO. VERY SOLID!

Challenge - 3.25 stars. Its a muni. Thus, its fairly wide-open. But if you do get into the trees, then you will pay a 1-stroke (or more) price. And b/c "June-Gloom" reared its ugly head this morning, the cooler conditions made it longer to play. I found myself taking an extra club all round long...

Overall experience - 3.25 stars. An overall solid muni-course. If I have to find a negative, it would probably be the greens fee. $50 to walk is steep. Granted, its Sunday and its a popular muni & very well maintained. And maybe I've been spoiled to driving out to the desert and/or canyons & playing equally good (or better) courses for cheaper. But after factor time&gas, it becomes a wash @ the end...

Played Sunday at around 7am and finished in five hours. Slowed up by a walking threesome two groups in front of us as per the marshall. Parts of some fairways and some fairway roughs were pretty wet, I assume due to having been watered earlier? Greens were in excellent condition as always. $63 with a shared cart but a nice, well maintained muni course.

Played twilight on Sunday at 2:30 pm with a fivesome. Great price at $38 with a cart. Barely got in 18 holes and the last hole was hard to see. Waited a few minutes on many holes. Greens still a bit bumpy from aeration a few weeks ago, but not bad. A few bunkers had water from the recent rain. Most of the fairways had dried up nicely. I like this track and although the trees can be challenging it is fairly wide open. It was nice to see an old friend again. Warning at the turn - may be the slowest bartender I have ever encountered. It took 10 minutes to get a couple of beverages. Saw the cart gal once on the from nine before they shut down the service for the day.

Decided to go out yesterday as walk-on single after morning rain stopped. Got twilight rate when sent out at 1:30 pm. Fairways were a bit wet, but not too soggy. Some bunkers still had water in them. Others had wet and hard sand. Course played very long, esp. into wind. Ball did not roll as wet grass acted as a brake. Greens were pure and smooth. Played as a twosome on the front. We were joined by another single on back 9. Front 9 took less than 2 hours. Total round was 4 hours, great for usually slow Mile Square pace.

Played the Classic course for the first time with some friends. The layout is interesting with plenty of variety. The course has several lakes and enough treas to penalize poor shots without making the course impossible for average players. The greens were full and lush but inconsistent in speed and firmness. Some greens had wet, soft fronts causing the ball to check up while others were well drained and predictable. The only issue worth noting was the poor condition of several fairways. A few drives were caught by 2" grass in the middle of the fairway or very soft ground. All and all the course was fun and challenging. If only the greens were more like the practice putting green for speed.

The greens are simply magnificent, likewise about the bunkers. I don't play here as much as I would like because they have a lousy replay rate. But it is sure nice to play on greens that are smooth and fast almost like at a PGA Tour event. The tee boxes need improvement.
