Played here yesterday with Itslikeimsayin using an Underpar voucher that was $39 for two players and included a replay round. Heck of a deal for $19.50 each! We had a 6:48 tee time, but arrived earlier and it was just kind of a "first come first serve" on the tee box as people just kind of lined up. We played as a twosome and went off around 6:30, finishing the first round in about 3.5 hours. After a not-as-quick-as-hoped hot dog at the bar, we got in line for our second round. We were surprised it was still so busy, but we joined with another twosome and went off around 10:30. We were stuck behind a rather slow group of idiots. We would have undoubtedly finished faster if we were in front of them because there were several open holes by the time they finished, so the second round took 4.5 hours. The course is in decent playable shape right now, playing nicer than it looked for the most part. The tee boxes were generally very good. The fairways did have a lot of brown spots and some really bare sections, but I thought there was much more good than bad and I almost always had really good lies in my landing areas. The rough along the fairways was a non-factor as it was either cut down or non-existent. However, the closer you got to the green, the thicker it was and it really made you work for up-and-downs. I was in a couple bunkers and they were definitely thin. The greens looked horrific with a lot of yellow spots and mostly browned out surfaces. I thought the speeds were a little inconsistent, as well. Still, they also played a little better than they appeared. The practice green was really shaggy, slow and bumpy, but the ones on the course rolled a little better. This was only my second time here. I liked this course a lot the first time. I like that it's something a bit different out in the desert with the links style and has some subtle, yet interesting design elements. I'm actually a little bummed that I have still not experienced it on a really windy day. It's a much more forgiving layout without heavy winds. Yesterday, it was maybe a one-club wind throughout most of the morning round, but nowhere near the legendary gusts everyone else seems to get. In our second round, the wind died down almost completely. By the end, it was blowing a little, but the wind direction had shifted compared to the morning. For the right price, it's a fun track. Just don't go in expecting pristine conditions anymore.

Played 9/17 using an Underpar 2 player coupon with a free replay. Reviewing course conditions is useless - the course is closing Monday for over-seeding (scheduled reopening is 10/15). What is worth reviewing is the customer service. I was both quite disappointed and extremely pleased - BIG Kudos to Michael Chiappetta (the Managing Partner) for the gracious and professional manner in which he handled what could have been a very negative situation. Here's what happened: I checked in at roughly 07:40 and everything seemed to go fine. Took the coupon, said just grab a cart and start when we were ready. By the time we were loaded up and had spent a few minutes on the practice green, we teed off about 8:10. My playing partner was a very dear friend who is just beginning the difficult journey called sobriety and also has some other, health related mobility issues. It was a beautiful day (pretty windy, but that's given for this location) so we took our time and didn't push. Normally my friend sits out 2-4 holes for health reasons, but he was able to play all 18 for the first time in nearly 3 years. As a result, our pace of play was slower than normal, but there weren't many people on the course and we let 3 groups/singles play through so as not to disrupt anyone else's round. Despite the conditions being pretty marginal, I very much enjoyed the course and layout. When we finished 18, I helped him get loaded up to head home and I was going to go back out and replay the back 9. Played 10 and 11 but the flags had already been pulled out - after hitting my drive and approach on 12 my friend called - he'd left his wallet in the cart so I drove back to the lot to meet him (which is actually pretty close to the 12th fairway). After driving back out to 12 and parking the cart on my way to putt out and and finish the hole, a cart drove up and I was abruptly told the course was now closed and I had to come back in. When I commented about the coupon, he stated I had been told when I checked in the course was closing early, which I immediately disputed. He then starting complaining that we'd taken too long to play the first 18 holes. At this point I was getting kinda irritated, both with the situation and his attitude. When I attempted to explain why we hadn't hurried, noting again I was not advised of any early closing, he became more aggitated - when I asked what was going to be done about the missed replay he stated "You only paid or 18 holes, the replay is optional and only "if available" so I was just out of luck, then dismissively added "you can go finish putting out then bring the cart in and unload your bag." At this point I'm pretty pissed off - yes, it was a good rate but the replay was a big part of why I bought the coupon in the first place! I didn't NEED the coupon to get a good rate during summer at a desert course (in fact they had tee times for $10 on their website). I drove in, unloaded at the bag drop and took the cart back. I then headed up the stairs to the Pro Shop as I wasn't yet finished with this. As I got to the top of the stairs, the gentleman standing there asked how I was doing and I replied "Not that good at the moment." He asked "What's the problem?" and I told him the short version of what had just transpired. At that point he introduced himself and I learned I was talking to the Managing Partner, Michael. I explained I wasn't told of the early closing and if I had known we could have played quite a bit faster - he offered to stay by himself and close up if I wanted to go back out, but I'd have to do it without the pins. I told him I understand about closing early and didn't want him stuck here waiting for 1 golfer, I was just upset that no one said anything. Without hesitation, he offered a round "on the house" which I could use at any time, even during the high season and asked if I'd like it to be for a single or a twosome. I said a single was fine - at which point he handed me his business card with a handwritten note for a free FOURsome! This is a man who understands customer service and relations and we need more like him in the industry. Michael, if you read this, a big thank you - I WILL be back, and definitely for more than just the free round.
