I found this course on underpar, $45 on a Saturday. Good green fee about average golf course. It has a lot of holes that are layups and carrys over water channels.
The teeboxes are flat, but a lot of (hacker) divots. The fairways are firm and fast, but be careful not to drive too long through the fairways or you may end up on some really rocky terrain. The 1st cut rough (1") is not long, so drives can run through. 2nd tier rough(3"-4") can be tough for distance. Hitting out of the secondary rough is not easy. Most of the holes are positioned with green side bunkers, with good quality sand. The greens have been freshly punched and sanded (med-slow) . The greens are tiered with a lot of undulation. Overall course is challenging and enjoyable.

12/13 looked for a convienient course with limited play to avoid a 5 hr round playing with friend visiting from Utah in PS for a pickleball tourney. Had not played here for over 20 years and did not remember the course as being so basic. POP was great at just under 3 hr with no one insight. Older coiurse with fairly wide fairways with some trees on the perimeters. A few gullies to carry and some water hazards that are only in play if you are really wide of your taRGET. Everything is green and well watered. Fairways had mostly good cover with some thin areas. Rough a little spotty but mostly about 2 inches and juicy. Tees were not always level anf it appeared that the markers on the par 3s had been left inthe same location for a week or more as there was considerable divot damage. Design has 6 par 3s and 5 par 5s. Bunkers had no rakes and contained moderately groomed heavy damp sand.
Greens were soft a little damp and somewhat bumpy to start.rolling medium speeds. Complexes are on the smaller side in keeping with the age of the course but were still tricky as most have considerable slope and with so me pins tucked near edges the holes were fairly well defended.
Used UP $99 2some after 10% cyber discount came with ranger balls. Grass rannge basic cart no GPS. Easy casual check in by friendly staff.

Rode the Blacks (6312/69.9/123) in about 2.5H as a single, teeing off around noon. $10 "Hot Deal" on GN. The weather was sunny and breezy in the mid 90's. Playing Mesquite is like playing 2 completely different courses. To get to the front 9 you have to cross a busy street. The front 9 is very poorly maintained, a 2/10, and that may be generous. The back 9 is on the same side of the street as the clubhouse. Much better maintained, more in the 5/10 range. Back 9 tees were semi lush and mowed high. Front 9 tees ranged from hard pan and thin to semi lush. Numerous tees could use leveling. Most back 9 fairways were semi lush and taller than the rough on many courses. Most front 9 fairways were thin with tight lies. The fairway rough on both sides is mostly thin, with a few areas that has lost ball rough. The rough around the greens is lush, mowed down and very nice to play from. Most of the lushest grass on the course is within 15 yards of the greens. The sand traps are poorly maintained. Most have grass and weeds in them, many had burrowing animal holes and they are not regularly raked. The back 9 Bermuda greens were at best average. Firm, bumpy & medium speed with a few bad spots. The front 9 Bermuda greens were poor to terrible. The first few greens were as much hard pan as grass with large bare areas. Nicely maintained, older clubhouse. Basic carts, no GPS. No drink cart/Marshall. Numerous water stations on the course. The course was practically deserted. They would be better served closing the front 9 for the summer and working on it, because that 9 would rank in the bottom worst 10 maintained 9's I have ever played in 45 years of golfing. The back 9 is much better maintained and much more playable. The bridges are in poor condition and need to be refurbished. Fun layout that has potential if they got the playing conditions up to even an average level.

Rode the Blacks (6312/69.9/123) in slightly more than 2H as a single mid day. The weather was hot, sunny and breezy. Mesquite is classic, old school Palm Springs in layout/style. Some of the smallest greens you will ever play on a regulation course. Five par 5's, six par 3's, seven par 4's = par 71 layout. The par 5's are scoreable, the par 3's are challenging and the par 4's are a good mixture. The layout is fun. However, the conditions are poor overall. Parts of the course are lush. Much of the course is scruffy/playable. And other parts of the course are terrible. The back 9 is maintained MUCH better than the front 9. Some tees were lush and mowed high. Others hardpan and thin. Many needed leveling. Most front 9 fairways were thin with tight lies. Most back 9 fairways were lush and taller than the rough on many courses. The fairway rough is mostly thin. The rough around the greens is lush, mowed down and nice to play from. There are areas that have not been mowed since ??? that you will have to step on your ball to find it. The sand traps had mostly decent sand. However, from a maintenance perspective, they were a disaster. Most has grass and weeds in them, many had burrowing animal holes and they had not been recently raked. The back 9 greens were mostly mediocre. Firm, bumpy & medium speed with a few bad spots. The front 9 greens were poor to terrible. Many had large hard pan areas. Basic carts, no GPS and forget on course customer service employees. I booked a $10 12:06 tee time through GN that is their LAST tee time of the day. I had employees watching me from hole 10 on and wanting to know if I planned on playing all 18 when I was on 15 green. They obviously wanted to go home, and I was done well before 3pm? I only saw a couple of other singles playing. To ride a quick 18 and get some on course practice is the only way I could recommend under these conditions.

Late last night I saw an absurdly low GolfNow “Hot Deal” price for 8:22 this January morning in the desert, so I grabbed it after hearing encouraging things recently about conditions. They paired me with a twosome and we started a few minutes early. Oddly, there was hardly anyone on the course, so we never waited and never had anyone within sight behind us. Total POP a tidy 3:10. Outside services attendants were very friendly and willing to help, too. The weather couldn’t have been more perfect. I shed my pullover by the fourth hole and it was even a little warm with short sleeves on.

Conditions are much improved compared to the run-down “new normal” here of the past few years. It seems they are making more of an effort and getting good results. That’s not to say it’s on par with Desert Willow or somewhere like that, but for a budget round in the desert this time of year, it’s in nice condition. Specifics: Greens are very nice. They are smooth, medium fast and accept full shots quite well, although there is some run out. The surfaces are pretty firm and full shots barely made any ball mark at all. Fairways are lush with great coverage. I only saw one muddy spot from the recent rains, just short of the ninth green. For some reason, throughout the entire course, the border/transition from fairway to rough is an apron of dead grass and/or dirt about 12-18 inches wide. Not sure what’s going on there, but if your ball stopped there, it would be a bummer. It also detracts visually from the course. The rough was lower quality condition and coverage than the fairway, but decent overall. Not too deep nor penal. Tee boxes were very nice; lush and with great coverage. I was in one fairway bunker and it was good, although a playing partner complained about the greenside bunkers.

Having played this course quite a few times many years ago, I sort of have a soft spot for it and it’s nice to see it in better condition than what I’d seen and read the last few years. Definitely recommended for a good value option in the desert.

I tagged along to the desert with sixpez for his Bighorn outing yesterday, although while he played there I opted for Mesquite Golf & CC. Amazing "Deal" time on TeeOff.com ($14-$10 off promo code, +$1.99 booking fee=$5.99 total) for 9:57. I arrived early and they let me go straight to the tee by myself. I played through another single and finally caught a twosome at the 18th hole. Total POP was about 2:20.

Conditions are mediocre, but very playable. For the price I paid, no complaints whatsoever. The course seemed to improve in condition after the first hole, which was a little scruffier than everything else. The greens are quite good, very smooth yet rolling medium-slow. They were semi-firm and very tightly woven when fixing ball marks, almost like sticking your divot tool into a brillo pad or a sponge. The fairways were also good: green and lush although some were sort of fluffy. The rough was a mixed bag from deep stuff that looked like it hadn't been mowed for several days to bare and dormant spots to well-maintained. There was definitely a premium on keeping the ball in the fairway due to the "who knows what you'll get" aspect of the rough. Tee boxes were fair to poor, with bare spots on some and long, furry grass on others. I was in two or three bunkers and they were all compacted, although not quite hardpan. They could all use a good raking. On the fringes of the course, many non-essential areas are browned out. Also, some of the water hazards are dried out, but filled with brush and you would likely have a hard time finding balls hit into them.

There was a time in the early '90s when I played here semi-frequently (IIRC, they had a great deal in the Golf Passbook), but I hadn't been back since then. The course isn't much to look at, but with some quirky design features and six par threes, five par fives and seven par fours (including closing holes measuring 456 and 435), it keeps things somewhat interesting. It's a good value option in the desert.

Hadn't played here in a few years. Went out with a buddy to check it out. The starter commented there was new management since last year and the course was the best it has been in years. Glad I hadn't played here recently then. Fairways are spotty, lots of GUR. Greens are very inconsistent, some decent some in very bad shape with pockmarks all over them. No sand in bunkers and tee boxes are chewed up. Course design is flat and straightforward, with a few goofy holes. Extra par 5s are fun. In general, just kind of a dilapidated feel everywhere is kinda depressing. Restroom on back 9 is closed, bridge blocked off by cones and many other signs of gradual neglect of the facility. The good part is that it is probably the most reasonably priced regulation length course in the wind free part of Palm Springs. I paid $59 on a Friday morning, no special discount and it's almost high season. All the staff encountered were generally nice and friendly. I hope they turn this place around.

Played here this morning, dawn patrol. I had booked a 6:48 time on their website, but wasn't in their system when I checked in. No worries, though, because they still sent me off first as a single. $39 with cart. Had to wait on maintenance a few times, but otherwise zipped around in 2 hours. Needless to say, I had pretty low expectations from previous GK reviews this year, but I figured playing the course a few weeks out of overseeding would give it a good shot to be in reasonable shape. Though far from immaculate, I was pleasantly surprised the course was in pretty good overall condition with mostly lush grass coverage throughout. Some bad patches scattered throughout fairways and rough and grass still a bit shaggy in fairways right now (as you'd expect after overseeding), but mostly quite good. Some of the greens did have some issues. Still rolling a bit slow and several had some dead spots they are dealing with. I was in my fair share of sand traps. I noticed more small pebbles than I prefer to see and some strands of grass growing up through the bottom in places, but the sand itself was soft and playable enough. Tee boxes mostly good, but a few were lumpy. Definitely not a destination course and it still is low on the Coachella Valley totem pole in terms of overall appeal. By Palm Springs standards, I'd say it's fairly rough around the edges. However, by general SoCal standards it's actually in pretty good shape right now and the price is reasonable for what you get. I would expect it to stay fairly decent through winter (especially if they can get the greens a little better) and then it seems like they'll let it go pretty bad heading into summer judging by other reviews.

Played here on June 1 early in the morning. All I can say is Victoria must have a sister course over here in Palm Springs.

Pros: Pace of Play was under 4 hours, but I could probably see why nobody plays this course.
Price- played for 18 with a cart. Which was still too expensive for what the course offered.

Cons: tee to green was dirt, you hit into the middle of the fairway you are rewarded with a dirt lie. Greens looked like they would be fast but were very slow.

This course was probably the worst course I have ever been on from tee to green. they need to shut this place down and do some maintenance on the course. Also please mark the holes properly as a group that finished #3 thought the 8th tee was their tee. They did not believe the spray painted 8 on the marker I guess.
Course has potential but until i hear of improvements we have taken this course off our palm springs list.
