Another fun GK Plays outing. It was odd to be in La Quinta and getting rained on in May, but we still had plenty of fun on a nice course! I enjoyed my round with Rat-Patrol, Nickesquire and mendel as we started in the back of the pack (group 1B).

As others have already noted the course was in very good overall condition. The tee boxes were great. The fairways were very nice. The rough was hit or miss depending on what type of grass you found. There were some fluffy sections of lush rye and others with shaved down semi-dormant bermuda that often provided some awkward chunky lies. Made for some tough shots around the greens with the big false edges. I was in a few sand traps. Good overall, but maybe a bit inconsistent from bunker to bunker. Greens rolling smooth at medium speeds.

Overall, another enjoyable experience. I personally like Nicklaus as much—if not more—than Stadium. Thank you to the course for having us out and to Johnny for setting up such a great event.

First, let me say had a great time playing with dconnally, Junebug(Jen) and lamitchw. Really enjoyed the outing - thanks to Johnny and PGA West.

First time for me playing PGA West and the Nicklaus course. Really enjoyed the aesthetics of the course design, the challenge of keeping it in the fairways, but just a few too many bunkers! The par 3s were the toughest for me overall. Loved the par3 #8, in spite of donating a golf ball to the water monsters.

Tees were the best I've played. They were cut very short, but lush and green with only one of them with an uneven (slanted) lie from the white tees.

Fairways were firm and rolled out nicely. There was evidence of some aeration recently, but the grass has mostly grown in to cover it, and never had a bad lie on the lush grass. Was able to take decent divots without hurting my elbow. Rough was about 2-2 1/2" typically, but not too penal, maybe 1/2 to 1 club.

Bunkers, oh the bunkers. Lovely to look at, but too many for me to choose from!!! ;-) The fairway bunkers were raked and firm enough to get a good swing and hit. Greenside bunkers were perhaps a bit too firm for my skill-level, as I air-mailed a couple. Mitch, in our group, hit a few great bunker shots, so must be me.

Greens weren't much to look at due to the differing grasses at the moment, but were smooth and true, excepting the ball marks. Very firm, I didn't think they held shots that well, and were putting medium-speed today, but looked faster. Fooled me most of the day. Still, I gave these greens very high marks.

Saw the cart lady a few times on the day. A marshall told our group and at least 3 other groups to 'speed it up' as we were allegedly a hole behind (even though we were typically waiting on them). Figure it is their standard practice to nudge outings along, got a good laugh out of it.

Felt very bad for the poor single server after the round who was handling orders for the entire group over such a large area on the patio. As I was leaving, I very innocently almost forgot to pay for my iced tea, but found her on the way out. In hindsight, she and Ernie's Bar manager and perhaps Johnny could've been more forthright to remind everyone to pay for their food and drinks order as the event ended. Certainly, another staff member would've helped.

All in all, a great day out on a lovely course, even with rain for about 1/2 of it. Thanks, Johnny. Am going to give the Stadium course a try tomorrow, since that course-never-to-be-named cancelled our Meet-Play for today.

Played in GK event. 5/7/17 Course was in great shape Fairways green and lush. A little dry underneath, but good divots were easy and balls ran well after touchdown. Slight yellowish color, but they played great. Greens mostly receptive. Bermuda starting to grow in, so a little grain starting to take affect. Keeping below the hole helped a lot so you could putt more aggressively. Ran smooth at about a touch above medium pace. Traps a mixture, but mostly in fine shape. Design puts a premium off the T with narrow fairways and rolling hills or traps along sides. Lots of traps and rolling mounds near greens as well. Short siding was extra tough. I agree on the food service deal. That was weird ! She came back at the end and said she was $20 short, so Vic spotted her the money and I don't think he ordered anything ?

Played in the GK Event yesterday and it was another spectacular day of fun and hacking with fellow GK'ers even with Hurricane John pouring on us for a few holes. Ok, so maybe it was a light sprinkle but still, it's the desert in May!

Once again, not enough thanks can be expressed to Johnny and all that you do! Shotgun start at 2pm and our group Johnny, Ron, Ben, & myself were the lead group starting on #7. We basically had the course to ourselves as nobody was in front and we were never pushed from behind so we cruised around in a little under 4.5 hours taking our time to take some pics along the way.

I'll be brief with the course conditions since it's about to be covered another 40+ times in the near future ;)

Tees- Blues were flat with good coverage and minimal divot damage.
Fairways- Firm and fast but still very lush that provided a great padding underneath to hit from.
Rough- Lush and cut low along the fairways. Some longer areas in the mounded areas surrounding the greens but overall not very penal and easy to play from.
Bunkers- So. Many. Bunkers. And they were all great to play from. Even the ones that had been compacted due to some moisture were still soft and fluffy once your club broke the surface.
Greens- Even with the transition from Rye to Bermuda they were really rolling smoothly at consistent at medium speeds. No crazy undulations like some Nicklaus designs, but there are plenty of subtle breaks to keep you on your toes.

Customer service was a hit and a miss today. Valet and bag attendants both before and after the round were spot on and friendly.

Unfortunately there was an issue with the service at the restaurant during the prize ceremony after the round. We were sitting at a table for 4 and 2 of us ordered food. Long story short, when we tried to pay at the end, the server said that the entire group of 40+ people were all on the same bill and there was no way at all to split the bill. I might understand if this was communicated before we ordered or if everyone was sitting at one large table, but we were all broken up into several tables/sections on the patio. And what restaurant can't split a bill nowadays?? Our server brought us the (entire) bill and said to mark which items we ordered and we would have to pay cash. We gave her the cash and after she brought the change, she comes back and says "you guys calculated the gratuity and tax right?"...Oy Vey! Epic fail and I hope the F&B director address this because that's just terrible.

Thankfully the golf and all other aspects were incredible and I didn't knock off any ratings because of that but I hope to see it addressed so it'll go smoother for the next group.

Played Nick Tourney on 11/14. Pretty much a great day on the course. It was cart path only as they were still coming out of fall maintenance, but POP was still good at around 4.5 hrs. The course is in fabulous shape. Some of the smoothest greens I've ever seen in PS, however they were brutally slow. Putted horribly, but I'd love to see them keep them this lush and let us get used to slow greens again - rather than shave them down and kill the grass.

Played the Nicklaus Tournament course on Saturday, 9/24 for the SCGA One Day event and really enjoyed it. It had been over four years since the first time I'd played it, and I still remembered many of the holes. The greens were pretty good, but were very firm. I saw many fairways because I had a great driving day, and there were mostly in great shape. A few spots had been recently re-sodded in a few fairways, but nothing crazy. I was in a few bunkers and while the sand was heavier, and a little more shallow compared to other places, they were in very good shape. Tee boxes were almost perfect.

Played 7/9 with monthly golf club. Received excellent service from all staff personnel

Always like this course but it does play at its best in the cooler months of the year.
I was advised by staff that due to spotty fairways, they accept "bumping" the ball to
grassy lie. Ya gotta love it!!

Always love coming here every year the same time. Here the greens do not break severally they are poa annua. but roll very true. Keep the ball in play and you will score well. Staff is great.

Just like our morning round of the day, this afternoon, 2nd round is also my first time to play it. I understand that this is a Nicklaus course, but I have a feeling that Mr. Pete Dye may have whispered to Jack when he was designing this course- just a guess, but I see some of its style or demand for the player in order to score spells D-Y-E in its subtlety.
It's no Stadium course at all, but in my opinion, this is a type of course that I could play each day and never tired of it- bomb and wedge it, it's good- lay it up and get up & down, it's cool. Any which way you cut and dice any of its hole for your style of play, whether you play here regularly or if it's your first time like mine today, you'll enjoy this course for sure!
The greens are out of rye, and I'm not a fan of it, but it was still okay and playable- enough to say I was satisfied with it for the day.
The rest of the course was awesome from fairways, bunkers, teeing grounds and even its water reservoir content (even though I am terrified with how large they are in sight. ugh!) were all in good shape.
