Played 8/6/25 712am tee time. Haven't been out here in a while since I thought the price went up. Turns out the price isn't the same on Golfnow versus the course website. Golfnow is $92.49, course website $60- really big difference... Now the course is back in my golf groups' rotation. Conditions were great with some overwatered spots here and there (probably due to the heat). Tee boxes were good for the most part with a few crowned areas from the blue tees (today they had a few blues playing from the blacks). Fairways had good coverage with a few thin areas here and there- mostly tight lies with good cushion underneath. Rough only a couple inches longer and easy to get a club on the ball. Sand traps were really nice- I've been playing here for a long time and they're the best I have ever seen them right now. Greens were rolling nice and smooth, but got faster once the temperature started rising. Great customer service in the pro shop and the cart barn. Will definitely be back soon if the conditions stay the same.

Played here again today with a 7:03 tee time. I'd seen that the Southern California Golf Community Facebook group had a few groups teeing off earlier, so when I overheard the starter saying their 6:36 group was only going to be three, I volunteered to start early and got to meet a few great guys from the group. The group right in front of us was well behind the group in front of them (the entire par-5 10th was open in front of them), but POP wasn't too bad at just a smidge over four and a half hours. Conditions are very similar to when I played here two weeks ago, except the par-3 5th green is much improved and I didn't encounter any bare spots in the middle of fairways today. Greens were smooth, accepting of full shots, and medium-fast. They seemed to get faster as they dried out toward the end of our round. Overall, they are very nice. Fairways have great coverage and provided good lies all day. Rough is in a little lesser condition but still quite good and not too penal. I was only in one bunker, which seemed to have an interesting maintenance approach where the edges of the bunker were pretty firm but they had added ample sand in the lowest areas where balls come to rest. White tee boxes were mostly good but a few were severely slanted. Again, the tee markers were very close together (less than 10 feet apart, despite plenty of room to have them wider) and at least one hole (15) had them placed in a weird spot that had us aligned with a big bush blocking the left side of the fairway. I played great and had a great time. Definitely recommended.

Played here this morning using my JC Golf Anytime membership. Had a 6:54 tee time but checked in shortly after the pro shop opened and they paired me with a twosome headed to the first tee right away, so we started a little after 6:00 and finished a little before 10:00. Cloudy skies started to clear late in our front nine; the view from the famous 18th was still a bit hazy but several back nine holes had clear skies and beautiful views.

Conditions are quite good throughout the course, although there are some exceptions. The greens were great: smooth, medium-fast, on the soft side and very accepting of full shots. However, they somehow lost the par-3 5th green and it's in absolutely terrible condition. Fortunately, whatever happened is isolated to just that one hole and the other 17 are all very nice. Similarly, fairway conditions are mostly all great, although there are occasional bare spots here and there. I think it was on the 6th hole I was in bare dirt right in the middle of the fairway. The rough is in mostly good condition and not very penal. Blue tee boxes were cut short but several are unlevel. Oddly, they had the tee markers very close together on almost every hole, maybe only 10-12 feet between them. I was in two bunkers that were both quite good.

I hadn't played here since an agonizingly slow round in 2014, so it was nice to be back, play quickly, and see the course in good condition. I had forgotten how disjointed the routing is, though. Despite that, definitely recommended right now.

I see the nice white, pristine looking bunkers and think these are a cut above the vast majority of golf courses in Southern California.....until I try to hit a golf ball out of them. I think I'm a pretty decent bunker player. You open the club face and hit an inch or so behind the ball and let the sand pop the ball out of the bunker with a soft landing on the green. Not these bunkers. What they appear to do is pack the sand down very tight throughout the bunker and then put a thin layer of loose sand in the middle. This would seem appropriate for a fairway bunker. In a greenside bunker the ball will always come to rest in the middle of the bunker, you'll never have a fried egg or be plugged in the face of a bunker. I watched shot after shot of mine and my playing partners being unable to penetrate the packed down sand. There simply was not a deep enough level of loose sand in the middle of the bunker to play a proper sand shot. The leading edge of the sand wedge bounces off of the packed sublevel of sand resulting in a skulled shot time after time. This is the dumbest set up of a greenside bunker I've ever seen.

So I stopped here on the way home to play another 18. Having played here many times in the past I was looking forward to the return. The sun had come out and I thought things would be better. Wrong. Pro shop great as well as the starter but thats were it ends. I found the tee boxes to be adequate. Fairways were wet, bare, thin and muddy. Traps were not very playable. Greens were all hard and many devoid of grass. Unfortunately the course is in very poor condition IMO. I played 9 holes and left. If the front was any indication of how the course was playing, I could only imagine what the back 9 would be like. I don't really like writing negative reviews on courses but there was really nothing postive about the round except the nice golf carts and really cool GPS. The course needs drying out, sun and some maitenance before I would play here again.

Played on Sunday with a morning tee time. First time playing here and had fun at this course. Most of the conditions are the same as the last review. Found the course to be pretty wet. Tee boxes were ok, white tees were moved up. Fairways were ok and had some spotty issues but mostly playable. No real rough to deal with throughout the course. Sand was good and played well. Greens were rock hard and semi-fast. Petty bumpy and the collars were a mess. Rolled ok but didn’t hold shots. The do have a full size range with regular yellow range balls. Small practice green which didn’t match the course. Was surprised with the amount of elevation changes and probably not a walking course!!!


Overall had fun interesting layout but would have like the conditions to be a little better.

Played 10/20/24 12:30 POP 4:30 Was in the area on business and had never played here. Course was a mix of conditions. Some fairways and or sections of fairways were in great shape. While others were not. All had mostly good coverage. Some thin with a mix of clumpy grass and other parts perfect. Greens were the same. Some great, some not so much. All were very slow and bumpy from past aeration remnants. Greens have some pretty big contours in them. These greens would be very tough if ever in firm & fast conditions. Everything still very playable, just inconsistent and a mix of playing conditions. Was in a couple of traps and they were in good shape. Many tees are uneven with small teeing areas. A fun & interesting layout with elevated tee box's or steep up hill holes. Driving rang small with those weird small range balls. Very small chipping/ putting green that was in not so good shape. In playable condition and worth a look if in the area.

Played at 1pm on Thursday, 2/15/24, after booking a time as a single on GolfNow. Hustled over after a medical appointment that morning and arrived about 10 minutes before my time. Lo and behold, the sheet was running ahead(!) – the single I was to be paired with was long gone, and I was in behind a 4some. They let me play through on #4, and it was smooth sailing to #10, where I found myself behind several groups and waited on every shot on the back nine. Overall time was just over 4 hours.

Conditions were OK. Carts are comfortable with an interactive GPS that gives F/M/B distances to the green, and in green view has those ‘heat’ diagrams that show slope – the kind I have no idea how to read!! Since I don’t play here regularly, I was fooled a few times by seeing slopes/breaks visually that weren’t there, so the ball was heading away from the hole frequently. GPS does not show the locations of other carts – you need to be careful on several blind shots around the course. Saw the cart girl several times. Skipped a stop at the clubhouse at the turn, trying to push forward and finish before dark.

Greens were just OK, thin and pretty firm and rolling quickly. Lots of small debris on the greens from wind or mowing, and most greens had obvious large areas of different/patched turf. All greens had several unrepaired ballmarks scattered around. Fairways generally had good coverage and provided good lies and rollout. Rough was patchy and unpredictable as to what you would get. Tees (I played White [6,000/69.0/124]) were level and in good condition. On the par-3s, tees are set up narrower and it’s more of a challenge to find a level, suitable area to put your peg. I was in 2 greenside bunkers – the bunker on #16 had basically no playing layer – it was basically just machine-scraped hardpan; the greenside bunker fronting #18 had better sand, allowing a normal escape.

Saw a big coyote walking down #7, then heard a lot of pack howling down below the #15 tee. Several greens on the back nine are very challenging as they are severely perched and missing short results in long runouts off the front of the green. The course uses a R/W/B flag rotation – all of the par-5s (1,7,10,13) had red flags today – no imagination on flag placement.

I generally enjoy this course as I think it plays shorter than the card as many of the longer holes play downhill. Conditions have been up and down over the years as the course has had a variety of owners. Glad to see conditions improved from the past and improvements to facilities over the last couple years are evident. Recommended.
