Monthly golf group made it back down to Glen Ivy this past weekend and I was pleasantly surprised with most of the conditions after reading some poor reviews over the long period since the last time I played here. Check-in is very convenient, as is the range adjacent the starter's building. It's a pretty well run operation to get you going. Out on the course may be a slightly different story.

In terms of layout, it's really good and you never have anything but unique holes that never play side by side. Every hole is its own entity and that makes for a very challenging yet fun experience. There are elevations, mature trees and plenty of OB areas on either side of most of the fairways so bringing your A game is a very wise idea.

Conditions are pretty good all over the course but there are a few of the greens that are still showing some patchwork damage. It's a bit like a jigsaw puzzle on some of the greens as if they were forced to substitute some new layers to cover up old damaged ones. The ball was still rolling quite fast though despite these factors and held shots pretty well, too.

Fairways were mostly in good shape with just a few thin areas, and there's not a lot of rough out at Glen Ivy but when it was found it was nice and thick but still playable. Tee boxes (we always play the whites with this group) were mostly flat and well-covered, while the bunkers were okay with nice sand but probably not enough of it on the holes where I was beached.

We were the fourth group out for our outing so it's hard to say how much the slow POP was a direct result of some of my friends, but the group behind us was definitely hitting into us a few times too often but they knocked that off once they saw us waiting as well on many of the holes. Still, not ideal to play a five-hour round but at least the scenery, company and the weather was top notch. Cart service was also great with many visits and everything we needed.

I really enjoy playing this course when it's good condition like this and look forward to coming back soon.
