8am start, and for those of you who care pop was 4:45, which is kinda slow for Monday morning. Tee boxes were somewhat rough from weekend use, but were being seen to (my question is why not start the maintenance on 18 and work your way too 1 as to spread the intrusion around rather than me 6 times?) Fairways are near perfect, bunkers were well groomed with plenty of sand (up&down 2 out of 3). The greens were very good rolling nice and smooth, no evidence of last month's punching. Over all very good shape.

Played yesterday morning with quite a bit of wind but the course is in excellent condition and I love the holes. The greens had been punched about 3 weeks ago and are in great condition. Although I only get out here once or twice a year the condition of the course will have me come out again soon before the summer heat.

Played at the Quarry on a cloudy, cool, and somewhat rainy Sunday, got around in about 5 hours in a match play event with the Dawgs. I agree with everyone who enjoys the layout and views of OQ, a real eye pleaser. Nice grass range and chipping area to practice. Good grub and bar. Fairways were green and full, as was the outlying area. Greens rolled true at medium speed. Greensides bunkers had good sand and were all raked, easy to play out of. Fairway bunkers a bit firmer. I really have to think about what it is that I do not like about this course and I just come up with one issue: the green complexes are just too firm. Maybe it's the drought, or that I only play here once or twice a year, but it seems I am always perplexed on how my ball responds to approach shots here. A well struck wedge could check up or could release 20-30 feet. Same with chip/pitch shots around the greens ... just unpredictable. The greens look like a blend of Bent grass with Poa mixed in ... not what I'm used to, I guess. Perhaps if I played here more often I'd think differently. To me, it's set up for target golf but plays firm like a links style course. Not a big deal, it just keeps me coming back later rather than sooner is all. Still recommended.

Our foursome started at 7 and played in under 4 hours with a slight wind.

As usual this golf course is a lot of fun, yet challenging.

I highly recommend playing this course, if you have never played it before.

Played OQ on Tuesday, 1/20/15, with GKer stickboy on a cool cloudy day with little wind. we booked on the course site for 10:52am at $52 each. We were paired with two pilots for Air France in Socal on a layover, and had a very enjoyable round. Greens were in good shape, holding shots and rolling smooth at medium fast speed that increased as they dried out. Fairways were thin with scattered bare spots, but generally OK. Rough also OK with variations from cut low and dormant to deep and bushy around greens and in areas served by sprinklers. Traps were firm and damp but in general had adequate coverage for playability. Tees were in OK shape. We played blues but many tees were moved up - I think the course moves up most of the tees on the long par 3s and some 4s (#s 5, 9, 10, 14 [SIG hole]) to try to speed up play. #5 cards at 197 but was marked at 140(!). #10 cards at 216 but was marked at 180. #14 cards at 195 but was marked at 160. We fixed our divots and a lot of others, and would have done more but there were no refills available on any par 3 or a rack at the turn, etc. Would have gotten sand from the marshall if we ever saw one. Service overall was good but it seemed like there were fewer people working than I'm used to in the past. Desk service, cart service after the round, etc. were a bit slower than usual. stickboy and I both enjoy the layout and design of OQ very much and we had a good time today. Highly recommended.

Played at 10:00ish (booked for 8:20) on 12/29 from the black tees.
A return to Oak Quarry! Apparently a few GKers had the same idea to play here this week and my review is going to echo theirs. Had a nice frost delay so we got off about an hour and a half late. After that it was pretty smooth sailing.
Course is in good shape and playing very firm right now. Tee boxes and fairways are solid with just divots to worry about. Rough was good and pretty thick in patches (Right of #16 comes to mind). As usual the bunkers are thin which is the only negative I have about the course right now. Greens were great and the best I've seen them (I haven't played here in 3 years so that could be a reason too).
Our foursome booked through the course site for $54 two weeks beforehand which is a GREAT deal. I have noticed that the prices jump around a bit depending on the timing of the booking so keep that in mind.
Great design and a must play as long as conditions are good (Which they are and I don't see that changing).

Played today and course in good condition but fast. Fairways tight and ball rolls a good distance.Sand bunkers are hit or miss, some sand and some dirt. Greens were very quick but seemed to be uniform in speed. Teed off as a foursome at 7:30 and finished at 10:45, pretty average for this course. Coots starting to come back so that makes 16,17, and 18 a little messy but for $44 bucks, I will be going back. Happy New Year all.

The Good
First time playing here on 12/29/2014. I really enjoyed the layout. Very scenic with a few elevated tee boxes. It is a one of a kind golf course that winds through a quarry. The course was in very good shape and the greens were fantastic. Lots of risk reward holes, I never felt like any of the holes were tricked up.
The Bad
There was a frost delay so we started 1.5 hrs late. The pace was slow - 5 hour round. I didn't see any Marshals out on the course to help push things along, not sure if there were any out there or not. I know with the frost delay, they were keeping the carts off the course so that may have contributed to the slow play. After reading other reviews, it seems like a 5 hour round here is not out of the norm?
The Ugly
The bunkers have little to no sand, mostly hard pan with a light sprinkling of sand mixed with rock. The tee markers were not anywhere close to the actual yardage markers for the specified tees, the blue tee markers(rocks) were placed near or in front of the white yardage markers, the white tee markers were playing to the red yardage. Not sure if this was due to reseeding of the tee boxes or if they are trying to speed up play. Driving range was ok, there was little grass, but at least they don't have mats.
Will I be back? Yep, staff was friendly, breakfast at the clubhouse was decent, layout is fantastic and overall condition was good.
