Played Sun. 9-20 on a very HOT day. Booked a single tee time of 8:04 on the website and with a combo of email discount and points paid $52. Got out about 20 minutes early.
Pace of play was great at 4:15.
The staff was great and helpful like always.
Tee boxes in good shape and fairways very lush and green with very few dry spots.
Was in a couple of greenside bunkers and they had ample sand.
The greens were very nice rolled medium speed although a little long put I think they couldn't cut them much closer due to the heat.
Overall one of the better conditioned courses I have played recently.

Matt Schliebe has really got me messed up!! I went out to Oak Quarry, my favorite SoCal course, at 11:15 on a clear, hot Wednesday, 9/23/15. Got a $54 rate on GolfNow including cart. Posted a last-minute Meet-Play but nobody responded. In the spirit of further self-abuse, and remembering the “fun” I had playing back with Matt at Redhawk, I decided to play the Black plates as a single – not the markers, since OQ frequently moves the markers up, especially on the longer par 3s. (Memo to self: don’t play the tips when you are having trouble getting off the tee!! Only problem is … started out hitting the ball OK, tee problems didn’t happen until the back 9, where I got beat up pretty good!! Hitting hybrids into these long par 4s is not a recipe for good scoring!)

The par 3s here from the tips are quite the handful – the last three are 216, 235, and 214 (the sig. #14) yards from the plates, with heroic carries over a deep canyon or the quarry on #5 and #14. That green on the signature hole looked pretty SMALL from the Black plate over that quarry lake!!

My problems on the back were compounded by the slow pace (I was 2 groups behind a fivesome(!) that was seriously behind, and they weren’t willing to ask the twosome in front of me to play through. [That twosome didn’t invite me to play thru, either.]) and the heat (I think the merc hit 100 out in Riverside). Didn’t see a ranger after the 4th hole, and so overall POP wound up being 4.5+ hours, but could have been much better, as the course was not crowded.

Course conditions themselves were very good – greens were fairly firm, held high shots, and rolled well at medium-fast speed. Coverage was great and only the scattered old and new ballmarks broke the spell. Fairway lies were generally good, although my best drive of the day on #12 wound up sitting down in an old divot(!). Rough at the fairway margins and around greens was cut low and easily escaped (no club grabbing).Playing the back tees was great as there’s almost no wear and tear back there. I wasn’t in any sand, but it looked OK while fairly packed, although I saw other players in there and sand coverage looked very thin.

Plenty of water available. Saw the cart girl several times and there’s a snack shack at the turn. Good GPS in the cart, but there’s no ball washer, and none on the course. You and your bag get picked up at the car and taken back at the end of the day. Oops, no Black plates on the par 5s (except #2), so I played the markers, which were set up on the back boxes. Only #2 has a daunting carry – over a large ravine that runs down the right side of the hole.

Always recommended.

Ah, Oak Quarry, how can you not enjoy time spent at Oak Quarry! Has to be one of the most fun courses, and one of the most scenic in So Calif.

Course is in overall fine condition. My only complaint was the greenside bunkers, which were hardpacked sand, and wet. Fairways/greens were not great, but certainly OK. I have played here many many times, but never tire of the overall experience. Staff was as always, great!

Expected temps today are supposed to be 105 degrees, so being able to tee off first at 6:00am, able to finish is exactly 2 1/2 hours. BEAT THE HEAT !

Played Wednesday 8/19, around 2:00 as a twosome with my visiting buddy on the third leg of our mini grand tour. This will be short because there is not much to say. The Quarry is known for firm, sometimes problematic bunkers, and that was the case, as usual. But that was expected and I didn't really see it as an issue. Everything else was excellent. From the weather, which was warm with a steady breeze and surprisingly comfortable, to everything else about the course. This was my buddy's first time here and he was impressed with the conditions, the layout, and the scenery. I always like getting back here. Definitely recommended—especially if you can get in between heat waves.

Played 36 holes Tuesday with GK'r rstang06, perfect weather...

POP - wasnt too bad, we got stuck behind a slow 4some on the first round but they let us play through and then we zipped to the finish line quickly. 2nd round we were stuck all 18 holes behind a hacking 4some playing the blues...

Conditions - I will just say this....if the course had premium bunkers it would be in the golf digest top 200. Definitely one of my favorite courses to play (when I can get a good deal).

Greens - tricky and at times really challenging, but rolled true and minimal unfixed marks.

Fairways - I have no complaints here, some minor patching, but otherwise great lies and easy to hit from

Rough - a little high for my skill, but no complaints.

Carts - GPS and Cooler, and you have water stations as well as a halfway house for additional snacks and drinks.

highly recommend playing here if you haven't, and if you have, it is time to get back to the Rock.

Played the Quarry today as is our trek once a year (because of distance from home, not the course). Had an early start time and the place was already getting crowded but we actually got off before our scheduled time. Course in fantastic shape. Fairways very nice and few divots, greens a bit slow but immaculate. This is just a wonderful course with majestic views and challenging holes. If there is any downside it would be the traps. I prefer some fluff and I found these a bit rocky and hard. The two I found I didn't have trouble getting out of but no "thump" If you EVER have a friend/relative visiting take them to this course! Fees are also reasonable. Great value.

Went out today and course was in fine shape. Greens were quick and fairly consistent green to green. Rough was about 3" but you could hit out without problems. I was in 2 bunkers and both had about 1-2" of sand but got out easily for 1 out of 2 sand saves. As a foursome it took us just under 4 hours which is normal for us here at the Quarry. Tee time at 7 for only $46 can't be beat. Have a good week all.

Played the Quarry today 10:20 tee time. Round pace was just under 4 hours. Customer service was terrific and I really like the facilities here.
Course temp in the upper 90s. It was surprisingly green and shots held well although putting was slow, and every green had this ripple effect that was I would guess maybe an 1/8 high. They were not opened up or vertical cut just had a weird look to then that I could not identify or my playing partners.
Sand coverage in bunkers was horrible from fairway. Dry hard dirt with maybe 1/2 of sand and several good sized rocks. Greenside was even worse with a combo of poor quality sand and clay. Not sure what happened here and got no answers from the pro shop.
Disappointing all and all, and somewhat of a bummer to play today,

Bunkers same soft sand on all the bunkers.

We completed 18 holes in less then 4 hours.

Last time I played Oak Quarry was in 2012 and I think today can be easily considered one of the best and fun layout in Southern California.
