Got out at 8:15, finished 12:45 on a Friday ... my first round of golf since Thanksgiving. One day prior to playing, I used the discount link on the Oak Quarry website and shaved $12 off the rack rate ... hey, it got me a 'free' lunch after the round (great grub in the clubhouse there). The course is scenic and in it's usual good condition other the hardpan bunkers ... basically, precision pitch shots on greenside bunkers and pick it clean in fairway traps. Greens were a bit slow for my liking ... could drop that mower down a couple of clicks. No wind so no complaints. My buddie and I were paired up with a couple of real nice guys from Malaysia which made the day interesting.

Played OQ today and can only describe it as TERRIBLE! The wind was unbearable. Stationary balls on the greens blew off on their own. The staff should close the course on such days-period. The greens were also sanded, but with that and the howling wind, no discount or refund was offered. I earned a dunce's cap for paying $100 to play today-glad it blew into the quarry lake!

Played yesterday around noon. Pace of play was 5 hours. The wind was brutal. 30 to 50 mph. My hat blew off on hole #6 and fell into the ravine. No way I was going after it. The course was in fantastic condition. Greens were soft, but fast. The fairways and sand traps were in great condition. The wind made for a miserable day scoring though.
Cart girl came by 3 times and the snack shop was open after the front nine. Customer service was fantastic as always. A must play!

Since I've probably reviewed this course more than any other (except perhaps Goose Creek)....I'll limit this posting to the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly....

The Good...I can't agree more with the prior poster. We played the day before he did (Sat. 2/21) Our time was 7:36 but they got us out just before a big tournament was due to start. We played in just a hair UNDER four hours (yes...THAT is the proper time for a round of 18-holes!!) The course is in great shape....fairways lush, tee-boxes, too. We lucked out and didn't have the slow greens as we were told that they were rolled that morning. I actually think that the greens were as fast as I've ever seen them at OQ...but I know how fickle they can be. Truly a great course in top condition right now!!

The Bad... With a small warm-up bucket, we paid $100.00 per man. Now...since I had just played Paiute Wolf in Las Vegas (for $109.00) which is a much better course...It seemd to me that OQ was a little pricey. It's a nicetrack...but, hey, seriously - it ain't "Ben Franklin" nice. I'm afraid that in this economy, $100.00 is too much and unless they lower the rates, my weekend golfing at The Quarry are officially over...

The Ugly.... Through no fault of the greenskeeepers at OQ, (they must have gotten a ton of rain!) - some of the bunkers are in need of some new sand. There are lots of rocks showing and some of the sand traps have nothing but washed-out dirt at the upper lips...I know Hank and his staff will get right on it.

Staff great, food great, everything is great. Now just knock it down to $80.00 and you've got perfection!

Played here for the 2nd time, now time for review. First off, played Sun 2/21 after it had rained the night before and a couple of weeks now of rain in the area off and on. Did I say it rained? Had NO IDEA from the condition of the course. This place is not built on an old Rock Quarry but rather a sponge... was in amazing shape and we had no clue that it has rained in weeks out here. Course was in great shape and it had rained over night.

Greens were obviously slower than normal, but were in great shape. As they normally are, greens were firm as was the area leading up to them. Had a few shots hit on front of green and expected to plug with short irons / wedges but nope, jumped up to middle / back of greens (really???) I was amazed.

This course has an INCREDIBLE LAYOUT. Quickly becoming one of my favorite tracks in So Cal. Fairways / Tee Boxes were in great shape. Staff is EXTREMELY CORDIAL AND HELPFUL. Teed off Sunday morning at 7:05 am played in 3 hours. Saw the cart girl 3 times during the round (normally lucky to see at all when we are part of dawn patrol).

Overall great course. ONLY CAVEAT ---- price ! I really am not a fan at the rack rate of $95 . Really won't play it at that rate. But got a $75 rate on Golf Now ----- all day long. So my advice, play during the week if you can, if not, check Golf Now.com and when the rate is in the $70's ALL DAY LONG !!!!

Played Monday 2/8. Two days after the rains. and you could hardly tell that it rained. This course drains really well. Maybe because it is built on a ROCK!!! I am amazed at the design of this course. It is so lush. The Green grass against the rock quarry is so beautiful. The course is in excellent shape. The Greens are fast and roll smooth. They have Poa, but they are going to remove it in the near future, so they will be even better. The Sand Traps are deep, but they had little rocks in them. When they are wet the ball comes out fast. This is one ot the few courses that I can say is very difficult, but fair. If you play from the correct tees, you can hit driver on most holes. The GPS is the best. The Staff is very friendly. Saw the cart girl 5 times (on a Monday). The practice facility is great. If I lived closer, this would be my home course. What are you waiting for, go play this course.
