D.O.P. -7/21/18 Tee Time - 6:48 AM Weather- 80° Joined Allan Grant out here for our match Saturday morning. I was excited to play here because of the newly redesigned layout on the back nine. Boy I was not disappointed. Holes 13-16 have been modified to play near the new Casino that will be open late 2018. They have increased the size of the lake and made 13 green an island. Although it doesn't seem like the typical island green, ex TPC Sawgrass or Wolf at Paiute, It still has some teeth. Hole 14 is the same as before long par 3 guarded by water on the right. They did add another bunker to save wayward shots going into the drink. Hole 15 is now 641 yards from the tips and has flower beds all along the left side it has plenty of bunkers and you must play smart. Conditions were great tee to green which is always expected here at Soboba. Tee's had great coverage and minimal divot damage. They have 5 sets of tee's maxing out at 7400 yards from the tips Fairways, rough and sand were just about perfect. There were some soggy spots from the morning watering but never really an issue. rough was about 2 inches long and would kill any roll you would hope to get. Allan had a few low drive just stop once it hit the rough. I bet when the web.com tour comes back it will be nasty! Greens were wet and slow in the morning speeding up as the dew and morning watering dried up by about hole 10. All were very soft with the exception of 13 and 14 which seemed to be much more firm for some reason. Soboba has a lot of subtle breaks that you dont see and it can make for a frustrating day on the course. Luckily I kept a lot of shots near the hole and had just one 3 putt. Overall This course is amazing especially for the $50 weekend rack rate. Sadly like most people agree the price will go up once the casino opens later this year and the web.com guys come back out. Word in the clubhouse they are trying to get the PGA guys out here during the off season schedule in a few years but I think they would manhandle this course.

Played last week, sorry for the late review. The renovations are finished so no more temp holes! Overall course is in very good to excellent shape. Couple spots on the new holes where the sod didn't take that will need work but for now just play it as GUR. Greens were very consistent between old vs new - new holes were slightly less receptive but still good, no real speed differences (pretty amazing, really). Sand on the new holes is thick and perfect to play from - points out the need to do a deep re-rake on all the old holes. Pace of play was good, under 3.5 hours (it was a weekday), rate was the same as prior to the renovation! (won't stay that way after the Casino/Hotel opens).

Get out and enjoy it while you can afford it - HIGHLY recommended at the current rates.

7am tee time on a Sunday morning. Check in and first tee organized and running smooth. Course is in very good condition. Tee boxes are level with good coverage, fairways have good coverage. Rough sneaks up on you, it looks like it would be easy to advance the ball but when you try to hit out of it the grass grabs your club. The cottonwoods are starting to bloom and makes it difficult to find your ball. Sand traps had good sand and well groomed. Greens were lush and held shots, rolling at medium speed early in the morning.
POP at a little over four hours. New holes match the rest of the course.

Early morning Sunday round in under four hours. The staff was a little edgy with the busy morning but we got out fine. The tee boxes were all in great shape with good coverage. The fairways also had nice coverage with only a few burned out spots here and there. The rough was fairly thick on most holes and made finding balls difficult, especially with the dogwood leaves that litter a few of the holes on the front nine. The first nine holes are exactly the same as before the renovation. The traps were are well maintained and had plenty of damp sand. The greens were much softer that usual and quite a bit slower than what we have found in past rounds. They were very few ball marks and they held shot well also. The back nine is where the course has changed. The first three holes are the same as before then things look a lot different (for the good). The new holes have a great look with more water features and bermuda greens. The new course doesn't seem to play any shorter with the renovation. It's an odd feeling to play a course that has been renovated like Soboba. The back nine was like a new course and has me wanting to return soon. We were paired with Gus who was a fellow GKer, it took us until the back nine before we realized it. The round was very enjoyable and fairly priced for the great conditions. Definitely recommended!

Played today 6/17/18 at 6:40 for 35$. Was supposed to be paired with a threesome,however they were late. Went out with the 6:48 twosome. Which happened to be another GK member Sd3Bs. POP was 3:40. The weather stayed cool the entire round. Everything is nice and green. The greenside bunkers had great sand. The greens had a lot of water, but they rolled great. The new greens on 15 and 16 were completely different from the others. They were fast! The new layout is very well done. The rough was great. Not to thick except on the 15th. The rough around the green was very very thick and really grabbed your club. They always have great deals to play here. Rack rate is $50, well worth it!

Had a chance to jump on the course and tag along while Gus and Ron played out their GK Cup Match on 20 Feb 18.

It had been a while since I played here, as most of you may know several holes are under construction and temp holes have been sorta made up around the course. former holes 2 and 7 have both been cut down to short par 4's and pay 3's with greens placed in what used to be fairways.

Aside from the construction moves the course for the most part is in great shape, fairways are nice, greens rolling and holding shots really well, very well kept. The only areas that were sub par were the temp stuff, not as nice, not so clean, but then again, all that is just not where it belongs so its understandable.

It was worth the $30 I paid the play there in the morning. We caught a bad break on the frost delay and that really kept to POP extremely slow, that was just luck of the draw.

I'll be back after all the holes are ready, as i'm sure its going to be a great course once again. Maybe a GK event after the course is back.

Played here twice the last couple weeks – a little late to the party but better late than never!

Due to casino construction blocking access to 4 holes, the course has been re-routed to create a much shorter but still playable 18 holes. Former #s 2 & 7 have been cut in half to create 2 holes each and they’ve added 2 additional par 3’s. Each of the first “holes” carved out of 2 & 7 are kinda “Mickey Mouse” – both are listed as Par 4’s at just barely over 300 yds to temporary greens. The 2nd half of each plays to the original green and are decent par 3 holes. The two extra holes are fairly good – one is VERY short but still challenging, utilizing the practice green wedged between #1 & #17 (do NOT go long/left into that bunker, you’ll regret it!) - the other is set in the middle of the old range area and plays 150-170 into a long left-to-right slanted green. They’ve also changed the former #3 (now #5) into a par 5 playing from the back tees – it’s a lot easier par 5 than it was a par 4, but it’s still a solid test.

Now, about the conditions – overall this is the best I’ve seen the course since the Nationwide Tour event was out there. Fairways are excellent, bunkers are in good shape (a little heavy but plenty of real sand) and the rough is pretty consistent and thick. Lots of leaves so keep a good eye on your ball if it’s headed offline.

Regular greens are also excellent, rolling a smidge slow by normal Soboba standards but very smooth and hold shots well. Temp greens won’t hold shots much and coverage is a little thin but they rolled quite good (little faster than the regular greens).

Biggest challenge right now are yardages on the temporary holes and remembering to allow for a lot of bounce and roll when hitting into the those greens.

As for the future – I’ve seen the plans for the revised 13-16 and it appears very nice. They’ve preserved the green complexes from the former #14 & 15 to use for the renovation and #15 looks like it will still be a beast of a par 3 (though not as long as during the tour days). Late summer is the target for the restoration but wouldn’t be surprised if it takes longer (especially if they let those holes grown in a bit before they start play). No idea what’s going to happen with rates – currently can get a decent price but that may change when they finish the renovations.

At the current rates it’s a decent choice and value – the untouched holes are in great shape and the temp holes aren’t too bad so it kinda balances out.

My group and I made our annual trip out to San Jacinto earlier today to play Soboba Springs and we were pretty disappointed. Three of us drive 50+ miles, and I drive 68 miles to play there. When I made the tee-time over the phone last Sunday, I was told the course was in good shape. We like to know the conditions before we drive all the way out there. By the time we reached the #1 green, it was apparent the green had fungus. It turned out 14 of the 18 greens had obvious fungus. #15 through #18 were better than the rest. The tees were level and in good shape. The fairways were decent at best. No one mentioned the temporary greens built into the middle of the #2 & #7 fairways. Those two temporary greens are NOT BEING USED YET. They will be used once most of the back nine is torn up to re-route multiple holes during construction of the new casino & hotel. Speaking of the construction, #13 has zero bail out area because of fencing, #14 is shortened and playing from one single temporary tee (no idea how far since there's no tee-sign). The two back tees on #15 will soon be a parking lot. All of the trees down the left side of #16 have been cut up and are waiting to be hauled away before the hole is re-routed. We talked to the pro shop attendant after the round to let him know we were disappointed in the conditions and for being lied to while booking the tee-time a week prior. He apologized and asked us to return after the casino opens Dec. '18. We like the course and we like the facilities there, but until construction is completed and only after we read better reviews, maybe we'll return.

Early morning four hour round with a couple of real characters - brought my wife along for the cart ride. She wouldn't have believed me unless she saw them for herself - really nice guys though. The course is in great shape with the fairways in probably the best shape I've seen them in. The rough was very thick and in perfect shape. The tee boxes were all nicely prepped with one note that the 15th tees have been moved up quite a bit with the new casino construction. The 14th fairway hole also narrowed near the green with the earth moving. The greens were all in great shape as well but maybe slightly slower than usual. The water features throughout the course have seen their levels dip maybe a foot or more - possibly due the use for construction? The traps were all in great shape with heavy white wet sand in the few I found. The rates are extremely reasonable for the conditions and what this course offers!! The staff and facilities are near top notch and highly recommended! One note - ran into The Hemet Golf Guy when making the turn. He said it was a practice round before his cup match later in the week so look out Dave.
