Played this morning, no special deal, just the regular $37 senior weekday (55+) - goes down next week to $35. Given the conditions (details below), there's no place around (or maybe in all of SoCal) that delivers a better value.

If you know Soboba, this is about as good as it gets. Conditions are nearly equal to their web.com tour weekend conditions, the only real difference being the greens are (thankfully) more receptive and not as fast (they're still fairly fast, but not "putting downhill on a gym floor" fast). Have some newer people in the pro shop, very personable and enthusiastic.

Grass on tees and fairways was lush but nicely mowed, never had a "thin" lie all day. Only exception is a small patch on # 6 that was recently sodded, due to trees and fairway direction that hole is by far the biggest challenge for the superintendent but he's done a great job.

Rough is not long but quite thick in most locations - generally the ball nestles down a little but usually doesn't drop all the way down to the bottom (with the occasional pleasant surprise of sitting up clean as if in the fairway). However, it's also thick enough to affect club and shot choice if you're hitting anything longer than about a 9i.

Tees were in nice shape - couple are not quite level across the whole box area but you can usually find a spot that is. Divot damage was minimal, even on the par 3's. (A note about the tee markers - the current Black tee's are the old, pre-tour blues and the blue's are the old whites. I think it was their way of kinda "forcing the issue" to have people play the correct tees for their ability level and it seems to work pretty well.)

Bunkers have good sand with a few small pebbles randomly mixed in. They've been working on a few to bring them back to what they were a few years ago and those are in excellent shape with fairly fluffy sand (though a little heavy underneath early in the day). They're sneaky about the repair work - the left front one on #15 was close and marked as ground under repair but you could NOT tell from the tee - they use a white covering that looks exactly the same until you get to within 30-40 yards!

As noted above, greens were fairly fast and rolled wonderfully. They would hold good shots (usually one hop and stop) but if you come in low it will release to the back or all the way through - something to remember because long on a lot of these holes is NOT a good place to be! Be careful with short putts, you won't get bailed out if you misplay it - however, ff you play the right line and speed you can drop putts from long distance (birdied #11 from about 45 feet with a good 6-foot break going downhill to a front pin - for those familiar with that hole you'll understand why I say this was my best putt EVER!)

Given the current conditions and pricing, I HIGHLY recommend playing here soon before the summer heat takes hold.

Played Soboba on 5/17, first time back here since 1999. I had only played here once, and at the time I likened it to San Luis Rey Downs - it had a very similar feel and look. Wow, talk about a divergence....SLRD is now dead and gone, and Soboba has improved in every aspect.

Beautiful course and clubhouse. Outstanding conditions, especially considering the price. Staff was very nice.

The only negative, and I hate to say anything negative, is that there appears to be a grass battle brewing on the greens. Two competing strains make the greens a bit bumpy, and produces wobbly rolls. Now, I did make more putts than usual, so maybe the impact is more visual than actual.

That being said, I can't wait to return.

Played it Thursday, April 28 - Weather overcast, I think it had rained the night before, 11:28 tee time, Got a special rate of $22 while the wife Gambled at the Casino, a mile down the road.

Driving range had good targets, but you needed a cart to get there. Got to the first tee, and was trying to determine were I wanted to play from. My only option was Black or Blue, I chose Black. The Tips and Gold were not up. They were also punching the greens so there was sand on them. Didn't really mind because it is a tough track, and for $22, go for it. The 9's were switched around since the last time I played there. Some great holes, and sand traps are positioned in some great places. The front nine was pretty cool,... water comes into play on 2, 3, 4, 5, 8 (The Signature Hole, Par 3), and 9. Front nine great layout! Back Nine, also has lots of traps, and 11 this big tree that covers the left side of the green. 13 is a tough little par 3 that plays uphill, and protected by deep traps in the front. Thursday it was playing 177, I played a 7 iron way left and thank God, because I was short and if I would have went for the flag I would have been deep in the sand. Water comes back into play on 14,15 which is a long long long Par 3 protected by sand on the front right, and water all the way up the right side,... stay left, but there is sand on the left also, take an extra club and be straight. 16 also has water, all the way to 250 out on the right, stay left of just be straight, slight dog left right with a palm tree in the sight of the green that can come into play. 17 straight par 4, but 18 is a dog leg right that is protected by sandtraps at its turns. If you can carry them you are looking at the green but once again water on the left and sand on the right. Great finishing hole. I finished the day with an 81.

The only negatives I have is a lot of Cotton Wood trees. Lots of white fur balls from the trees all over the course. Snack shop was closed, but that was probably due to work being done on the course. I can't wait to play it again. Worth the Drive! Especially if the wife wants to kill a few hours in the Casino!

Sixpez pretty much said it all. Course is in good condition, but looks a little better than it plays overall. The greens are smooth, mostly soft and medium speed. Fairways are mostly lush except on water holes, where coot damage has them thinner than the others. Rough is generally very lush throughout. I think I was in two bunkers; one was pretty compacted and the other – a fairway bunker – was very crispy on top, in need of a good raking. Tee boxes were good but also fell victim to the bird issues on water-adjacent holes.

Played here this afternoon with Itslikeimsayin. We got a GN hot deal for $22 at 12:32. It wasn't busy out, so the pro shop guy just told us to head to the tee when ready. There were some other twosomes that went out ahead of us and we had a single join us on the first tee. The front nine moved along nicely, but then the back nine really slowed down as groups got bunched together. All in all, though, it was right around 4 hours for the round on a beautiful breezy afternoon.

The course is in very nice shape right now, looking very lush from tee to green. The tee boxes were generally good. The fairways were very good for the most part. In general, I'd say they looked better from afar than up close. My impression was the closer you got to any of the many water hazards, the less lush the fairways were thanks to the birds. The rough was lush, but not too penal in most spots. Just enough to make you work sometimes. I was in four bunkers and some were better than others, but all generally good enough. We noticed they were putting in new sand on the par-3 4th hole, so I am not sure what other bunker maintenance is in the works. I think the sand density was fine, it just needed to be raked and fluffed up a bit. The greens on the course were a little slower and softer than the practice green(s), but still playing pretty well—rolling true at medium speeds.

Always a great course that brings back positive memories. I like a lot of the aesthetic and conditioning improvements they made when they did the renovation, but there are aspects of the old course/routing I still miss. No matter what, it's a great course that is generally kept in great shape, so it will always be worth the extra drive for me.

Made the drive out Saturday morning to play this course for the first time. Staff at check-in was very nice and welcoming. Grass driving range was a plus. Course Conditions - excellent. Great grass all around. I very much enjoyed playing the course itself. POP - not good...bad actually...5.25 hours. No marshall. Beverage cart came around plenty of times. Carts are basic, no gps or cooler.

Got out here for a 1150 tee time yesterday as a second part of a double header. Price is amazing at $37 and man this course is looking nice.

Staff- was wonder full as always. They were a bit hectic as there was a wedding or party going on in the restaurant but still mighty happy to help you.

Tee Boxes were very nice and level no signs of damage or bare spots.

Fairways were very green and a good shape except near the water hazards as the coots do their damage like everywhere in socal. Very easy to get a nice bounce and roll for extra yards on this course as it was cut short

Greens- Man this is my only issue of the day. The greens were different types of grass and a bit bumpy but noting you couldn't handle until it can to speed and then its like putting on concrete. They were also very firm and would not hold any kind of shot coming in unless you got it way up and coming straight down this was frustrating when chipping because unless you were amazing at chipping you had no shot of keeping it close. Plus the Greens keeper put the pins in tough locations so that didn't help much.

Rough was short and mostly grass as long as you were within the tree line. and very east to get out unlike morongo.

I love this course and the challenge and would play it more if it was not out in the middle of nowhere. still worth a trip every once in a while

The fairways here are green and lush! (not winter dormant brown). Tee boxes are level with good coverage, bunkers were in good shape with plenty of sand and the greens were smooth and very fast! I really like the layout here. Good tee shots are rewarded with good looks at the green. Bad tee shots are either wet or you're punching out back to the fairway. My buddy and I were joined by a single and we finished in just under 4 hrs. great POP. The range is grass and hitting area was green with good coverage also!
Soboba was a joy to play and I didn't even play well! It's a haul to get there for me but I'll be back! Definitely recommend.

I really enjoy this layout because you have to play your ball in multiple directions and at various distances if you want to keep it out of the water and sand traps.

I really enjoy this layout because you have to play your ball in multiple directions and at various distances if you want to keep it out of the water and sand traps.

The staff is typically very helpful and the amenities are very good.

Like many Southern California courses, brown is the new green, so it isn't pretty everywhere but if you keep your ball in play you should always have a decent lie.

The greens though are showing multiple varieties of grass. Many of the greens have a camouflage color pattern.
