Rode the Blacks (6497/71.4/128) in slightly over 4H on a GN Hot Deal. Paired with Brendan, we stayed about 1/2 a hole behind a 4some the entire round and just took our time. The weather was breezy, clear and in the 60's. My first time here in around 25 years. Anxious to see the redesign that affected about 1/3 of the holes. Overall, thumbs up to the redesign. I remembered a fun, challenging course with nice greens and that was exactly what I encountered today. Tees were lush and only the par 3's needed divot attention. Fairways were generally lush and a few had soggy areas. Rough was mostly lush and thick. Punitive because of all the leaves, took forever to find balls that we had a good idea where they were. Sand traps decently maintained with thick, good quality sand. Greens were quick and smooth. Very few straight putts on these greens. Even though they do not have tiers or huge mounds, they are tougher than average. Good GPS on the carts. Decent range, customer service @ check in was excellent. No drink cart today. Very good layout in very good condition, definitely recommended.

Played this morning 12/28/2019. Weather was ideal for golfing, 55-60 and no wind, really nice out today. Course is in great shape. Tee boxes, fairways and rough are all over-seeded and look great. Ball doesn't sit up perfect in the fairways, not quite as full and thick coverage as some courses but still nice. Rough is looking really good, thick and full. Greens looked great and rolled smooth, not super quick though, probably could get them rolling a little faster. Bunkers have nice sand but found many of them un-raked. Really not much to complain about the conditions, more just nit-picking. If you're a fan of this course and don't mind the drive it's definitely the time to go play it.

Hadn’t played here in years. What a pleasant surprise, I almost hate to post this review and let the word get out. I’ve always enjoyed Soboba, but the club has made serious improvements in condition and a few tweaks to the layout that have turned a good course into a great one. Nice fairways like green carpet, smooth medium speed greens, bunkers with ample fluffy sand. They’ve redone a few of the holes on the backside for the better (which made my GPS go haywire lol). The recent rains made the thick wet rough a b*** to slash out off. Did not have the opportunity today to try the food service, but all the staff encountered seemed friendly. Bottom line, it’s like a good Palm Springs area course for half the price.

Played Saturday 11/9. Course just opened back up from over seeding. It is beautiful! No one has played this course for six weeks! The only greens still repairing were 16 and 17. The entire course is in great shape, practice areas too! No mats here. All grass driving range with large target poles. They will keep this course in prime condition. This course is very old school. And a lot of fun.
Now my game that day. It was our men’s clubs member/member. 8 am shotgun, front 9 best ball back 9 shamble. We start on 18, perfect drive from me. Partner duffs, but it’s shamble, so I got us. Now we play our own ball in record both scores. I duff my second, third goes in water. Get on green 2 putt. 7 for me! Uuuuuggghhh. Usual golf story. I play 1 crappy. 2 and 3 par! #4 (insert Charlie Brown ugh) par 3. I put one in the water. The next barely makes land. I walk away with 7. NOW. This is why golf is a devil. Par 5. I bust my drive straight, it’s beautiful! “It’s gonna clear the bunker”............. “Nope”. Just caught the lip, rolls to the bottom. Par3 then 2 par 5’s in a row. Slow the course down right there. I’m on the up slope so I hit it nice and leave me 150 to the hole. My partner is in the next fairway lying 3. We are all waiting for the green to clear. I have my 8 iron. I’m not looking at the green but every minute I’ll take 2 swings. FINALLY green clears. Smooth swing SMASH straight over the flag my divot is 2 inches behind the hole and bounces back into the HOLE!!! Gross 3 net 2.
Just had to get that out. Had another sandy birdie. And played better once we found the cart girl.

I played here for the first time with 23 others yesterday. No one knew what to expect since temperatures soared to well over 100 degrees last week. We were pleasantly surprised to see the course was green and there was plenty of water holes to keep things interesting. We all played the black tees at 6500 yards and 126 slope. There were lots of fun holes with a good combination of long, short, and slight doglegs to keep you engaged. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the layout with well placed bunkers and water. Conditions were surprisingly pretty good considering the long heat wave we were having. Nothing was immaculate however nothing was poor either. Greens were smooth and ran well, the bunkers had great sand (many were unraked though), fairways and rough had nice coverage and were fine to hit from, and the tee boxes were decent with the exception of a couple. My groups final verdict was.....this place is a keeper and if the course shows a little more attention to the details with conditions, it will only get better and better. Service was excellent! Recommended!- yes indeed

Played 4/19, first time here in years, the new layout is very nice, not overly challenging, but fun and fair...greens looked fast, but, played really slow, pretty much recovered from recent aeration, so no real complaints...fairways, tees, in good shape, but, the bunkers were in bad shape. I guess the people who play here. do not realize that bunkers need to be raked, saw one marshal , and he drove by us at breakneck speed, but, pace of play was okay for an 8 am tee time...for $45.00 it was a good deal......the only real negative is getting here, especially with HWY 47, still shut down due to the recent flooding, aim for the mountains, and the casino, that should get you there...as General Macarthur said. "I shall return." drive safely, stay healthy, CGG...

Got back out here on Friday after 4 days of solid rain. The course is in much better shape than in the fall. Overseeding has taken and the rough is very even although not too penalizing. The fairways are much improved but are not cut very short right now, possibly due to how wet the course still is. Some fairways on the front nine look like they had massive amounts of sodding done and it still isnt fully taking, although overall not bad. The greens are the highlight of the course and although a little soft, were rolling smoothly and probably around an 11. The new holes arent draining well and the fairways were soaked, in addition one of the holes doesnt have any cart path and the turf was getting torn up in certain spots. If you dont mind driving the course is worth playing right now, but in another week or two with some sun to dry it out it will be even better.

I played the country club at Soboba with my nephew this morning. This is on of my favorite courses to play. I do have to say it has been in better shape. The tee boxes were good and cut much shorter than my last few times on the course. The fairways are showing a little burn and some clump grass is getting a hold in some areas. The greens were soft on the front nine and the new greens are very hard. Putting was affected by some bumpy (not spike marks or divots) spots. I did find a few bunkers and two were perfect soft white sand with two that looked like they have not been attended to in a few days, one had grass growing in it about 3” long. The snack bar was closed at 12:30 with a sign on the door stating out for lunch back in 30 minutes. With no drink cart I’m glad I had my Yetti cup and Gatorade with me. I have to say that I still enjoyed the day and love the layout.

Drove out to play Soboba this morning and check out the new holes and casino status.
Paid 50 dollars online to play at 8am which is tough to find anywhere in Orange County on a weekend.

Drove out to play Soboba this morning and check out the new holes and casino status.
Paid 50 dollars online to play at 8am which is tough to find anywhere in Orange County on a weekend.
Greens were very heat damaged and had many bare spots forming on them although they did roll decently and were about medium speed. The two best greens on the course were the two new greens on 15 and 16 which were smoother, faster, and firmer than the rest. Fairways were awful. Flat out hard dirt mixed with crab grass patches, never seen the fairways like this out here, again with the new holes being the exception and having solid coverage. We played bump lies in the fairway all day, Id say you had about 10% chance of finding good grass in the fairways today. Bunkers continue to be great out here with good heavy sand. Rough was okay, hit or miss.
The redesigned holes out by the casino look really nice right now, but they really don't fit in well with the rest of the course. Its not that I dont like the holes, I think they're great. While most of the course has tall mature trees along the fairways, the new holes have only small new tress no taller than 5 feet and native grass with flowers around the fairways that reminds me of the Links at Summerly type of design. I am pretty excited to come back in early Spring and check out the conditions, casino, and see if the course starts to grow together with the new holes as the surroundings grow and the condition become more even.
