Played: Saturday afternoon, 7/25 at 1:37 for GN rate of $42. Observations from first time playing The Vineyard! Course Type: Medium length at 6500+ from the blues with some rolling, uphill/downhill shots and many parallel fairways. Mostly standard, straight forward holes with scattered tree lined fairways you can be as passive/aggressive as you like with a small dose of target style/placement and water holes. Not a course you will be punished too terribly for misses of the tee on many holes but still a tough enough test to really enjoy. If you prefer being aggressive with driver, which is what I enjoy most, then this is a course you will love. Practice Facilities: Didn't use them but looked to have a large quality practice range and nice tree shaded putting/chipping area. Tee Boxes/Fairways: all in excellent condition with some minor brown areas but for the most part a very lush and green course. Greens: Beautifully maintained greens which had minimal ball marks/repairs. They were lush and fair. I loved the balance of undulation and fairness. Nothing too crazy that I remember and lots of makeable puts. They were a bit on the slower side, likely due to afternoon conditions, but rolled very true and pure. Rough/Bunkers: The rough was not too penal though thick in spots mostly on the back nine. The bunkers were the one big disappointment of the day. Considering that the course is semi-heavy with bunkers, and being that I was in several, I can say with confidence that they were far more dirt then they were sand. The kind you really don't even feel like you should have to rake after visiting. Service: Not much to report; check in was friendly and offered a few quick tips; never saw a refreshment cart which was a bit disappointing as it was a hot afternoon; stop at the bar/snack area was not as friendly with a big Italian looking cat that seemed like he had just done a mob hit (i kid) and was not interested in service. Here, take it and go kinda attitude. No other cooked food was available after 3p, which again is a little disappointing when people are still playing until 8:30 in the evening with all the sunlight. Summary: For the style of golf I enjoy most, which is aggressive off the tee, I really enjoyed the 'open' feel of this course. It did actually feel a 'bit' like playing two different courses, the front having a couple 'quirky' holes but playing more straight forward with little undulation and a few more opportunities to lose a ball while the back was more picturesque wide open with uphill/downhill shots and longer more impressive holes. In general, it starts a little slow, but picks up early in the round and is definitely an enjoyable track. Not a course I'd walk at my age but certainly will be in my regular rotation now that i've played it. Was well worth the $42 green fee but would be an absolute 'steal' at anything in the $30 and under range.

I played here early this morning, booking through GN for a hard-to-beat rate of $22.49. I was paired up with a threesome and we teed off around 5:50. Things moved along great for us until we made the turn and ran into a foursome of older gentlemen who just started on the back nine. The Ambassador arrived on the 12th hole and asked them to let us play through, and then it was smooth sailing after that for a total round of about 3 hours. It worked out perfectly as I was able to watch the back nine of The Open in the bar with my playing partners before heading over to Shadowridge for the afternoon tournament (where I was able to see the end of the playoff before we teed off).

The course was in nice overall shape, affected in both good and bad ways by the heavy rains this weekend. On the positive side, things were very lush and green throughout. Tee boxes, fairways and rough all had great coverage and looked very nice. On the bad side, things were extra soggy. The course was cart path only and most fairway lies would qualify as "casual water" in normal circumstances. Once things dry out again in the next few days, it will be a really great time to come play here if you're thinking about it. The greens were super soft and running slower than they normally would because of all the moisture, but nicely kept and smooth on putts. Bunkers had good sand, but compacted and muddy in some spots. The workers were out there and fluffing them all back up, though.

This was only my second time here. There is a lot I like about this course with the overall look and enjoyable design. The par-3s are a really fun collection of holes. What I don't like is only two par-5s and an abundance of long par-4s. I was wise enough to play the whites with no roll-out on drives today, but it still played really long on many of these holes. It's a nice overall course, but it doesn't suit my game that much, so it's not one I'll opt to play a lot. The price I paid today was amazing, though, and the soggy conditions were just a weather fluke. Otherwise, the course is in really nice shape right now.

Fairways: excellent considering the drought.

Rough: 1 - 3" high with a few thin areas.

One of the better conditioned courses for the $$ in the SD area.

Teeboxes: Were in good shape Fairways: Very good Rough: Surprisingly good for the drought we are supposed to be in. Bunkers: A little hard for my taste but that's ok I guess for Fairway bunkers Greens: They were excellent on the front 9. For whatever reason, the back 9 greens were super slow and I have no idea why. Frustrating back 9, putting wise. Never saw a cart girl so that was frustrating. Other than that, an enjoyable round for a decent rate. Still pondering why the greens were so darn slow on the back 9...

Played here Memorial Day 5/25 with rstang06(aka hubby), mdkaplan90(aka son), and his friend. 9:39 tee time. POP = 4 Hrs. Booked via Golfzing.com 2 days prior, after checking the 'Last Minute Golfer' app for possible good deal tee times. Online Golfzing rate was only $45.97, which surprised me for that course; but apparently it was before the 'Holiday Rate' adjustments. Was worried our rate wasn't going to be honored, but Nope....we checked in with no problems, Pro Shop Staff very pleasant and informative. Driving range is off the better quality mats (limited flight range balls, and up hill don't give you a true assessment of distance -- But certainly meets needs for warm-up/practice). There are (2) putting areas...one adjacent to Driving Range, and other behind the clubhouse. Starter was very welcoming, pleasant, and eager to provide advice/assistance. I have to echo a previous reviewer's comments, "So, I think The Vineyard missed the memo that we are in a serious drought and the course should be dried out and firm. This place was LUSH everywhere. I'm not sure how they're doing it, but I was so surprised at the quality of the conditions right now. I'd rate the fairways if I hit any, but they looked good as I walked across them to drop a ball in the hazards I kept hitting into."... ...Course conditions were EXCELLENT! I did find the fairways more often than not; and can attest to their great conditions for pretty near perfect consistent quality lies. Rough was 1-3 inches, and very playable. Minimal bare areas, mainly from cart traffic. Tee boxes were level and lush. Even the Par 3s were in pretty good condition. Divot marks were properly taken care of, both on tee boxes and throughout the fairway. Greens were a little on the slower side/medium speeds, just a tidge bumpy, but overall rolled fairly true. Some holes were cut in some really difficult regions of the green resulting in more 3 putts than I typically experience in a round, but it's all good. Some minor ball marks due to poor/improper repairs; however, overall nothing major to effect a good putt. Bunkers were fair to good. Approximately 1 inch of soft (damp due to recent rain/drizzle weather conditions), over semi-hard pan, but were consistent. More frustrating to see all the footprints throughout from lazy players not taking the time to rake up after their journey in/out of them...a pet peeve of mine. Fair amount of water hazards - and bunkers throughout. Also concur with other reviewer, that "with some mowing, rolling and time will be pretty solid. They held shots well and were also firm enough to let you use some of the mounding on the greens to move the ball." Carts have GPS, and I only saw one 'relief' station on the back 9 (two port-o-potties) :( Ball washers and trash receptacles on each hole. Divot mix on each Par 3. There are several protected Natural environmentally sensitive Hazard areas that you can go into to retrieve your ball, you simply can't hit your ball directly from them -- Starter will advise. I don't recall seeing a Cart Girl at all. There is a Snack bar/restroom facilities at the turn, and sometimes it will back up at the turn as people take a pause for the cause(s). ;) Summary: This is by far one of my #1's in my book for local area courses. It's only a Par 70, but don't let that fool you into believing its not a somewhat challenging track...with the back 9 that run adjacent to the winery and surrounding scenery aiding in that assessment. Weather was overcast w/slight drizzle so the wind wasn't a major factor; however, it can come in to play later in the day. Would love to play this course more often; but we don't always see the great low priced deals as we did this past weekend. They do have an interesting Players Club deal for $39.99 a month (http://www.golfzing.com/pcvineyardescondido) I may entertain? Nice clubhouse with outdoor seating area, Orfilia winery close by. Nothing but positives (in our opinion). They certainly take a lot of Pride in their facilities, truly care about your golfing experience, and the professionalism is Aces!! Look forward to teeing it up here again. Just this semi-novice golfin gals thoughts. ;)

I made the tee time on Golfnow.com for $31.99, but when we checked in the guy in the shop gave us a special they were running (not sure how often that happens) which was golf,range balls, two drink tickets (anything but hard liquor, so I grabbed a beer) and lunch for $29.99. I think you'd have a hard time finding a better value considering the course.

The tees were fantastic with level, quality lies on all par 3's, which is impressive considering the Par 3's are pretty short here so you know there is going to be serious divot damage.

Rough was fine to play out of, not penal at all, which I think is a good thing because it makes it as easier experience for the average golfer.

My only complaint, and this is tempered, is that the greens were a bit bumpy and slow. You could still see some residual issues from a recent aerification, so I won't dock them much on those. You can tell they are really healthy greens and in a few days, with some mowing, rolling and time will be pretty solid. They held shots well and were also firm enough to let you use some of the mounding on the greens to move the ball.

I really enjoy the layout of this course. The back nine offers some really cool holes and views and I think this course would be a great place for golfers of all levels.

I'd suggest connecting with The Vineyard through their website or Facebook as I'm guessing deals like we got yesterday are promoted that way and I'm a big fan of purchasing tee times directly with the courses rather than using Golfnow if at all possible.

Played our GK south match with AndrewZ28 here yesterday. Course looked jam packed but actually got around in a little over 4 hours. Very surprised with the conditions, tee boxes and fairways were good, nice and lush. I don't think I saw a brown spot anywhere. Greens were in good but not great shape. Some still showed signs of aeration, most were still pretty shaggy and bumpy and slower then they looked. Overall the course was in great shape and an afternoon tee time for $29 which included two drinks and a Lunch is a great Deal.

Greens have healed nicely and were in good shape. A couple more day's and they will be 100%
Fairway's very nice. Good coverage, green, soft, but still had good roll.
T's good and traps very fair & mostly consistent.
The Vineyard is a challenging course. Not much room to miss off the T's. Some long par 4's.
A good test of your game and in good to great condition most of the time.

Played the front 9 at 8am and seemed rather average, save for a couple nice holes however,.. The back 9 was nearly breathtaking when the marine layer burnt off. Gorgeous and challenging holes with amazing views. OutstNding shape all around but can't say enough about the back 9. Worth the fee itself. Strongly recommend to play.
