Played this morning at 7:30 with fellow GK'r Rstand06 (Willie), holy moly was it cold, there is a HUGE difference temp wise between Lake Forest and Escondido....it was the frozen tundra the first 5 holes or so.

First time playing this course, and I was VERY impressed....carts are very basic, but do have GPS, decent range to "warm up" on..though it didn't help a lot this morning when it was 36 degrees.

the layout of the course was solid and a good variety of shots need to be in the bag.

Score well on the front 9 because the back 9 has some teeth to it.

greens are definitely the strong attribute here, simply perfect condition. often the greens were tricky to read, so you need to have some experience at this course to beat the greens.

Bunkers were fluffy and no rocks..Rough was of a playable length and for the most part didn't impact the game.

Fairways were mostly good, but there were some areas that were almost like hitting of hard-pan, but generally speaking they were fine.

I would recommend this course to anyone who is within a reasonable driving distance to give it a look if they haven't played it.

Rough in good shape and not very penalizing.
Greens in great shape. Very receptive and rolled true and quick
Perfect combo in my opinion.

This course can be slow which is why I haven't played it in a while. On this day it was wide open. With the short day's 12:30 is most likely the latest you can tee off and expect to get the round in ?

Played here not expecting to much lush green in a lot of areas being a drought etc. Course was pleasantly in good shape. Greens were near perfect. Challenging enough with a few water features that are actually halfway filled (not bad for the situation). Very nice practice area for range, putting green etc. Overall enjoyed my round and will be going back when I go back to Escondido area.

First time to the Vineyard, found the Escondido course in nice shape with a rolling hills type layout with a few water hazards thrown in for good measure. Not a terribly challenging course but one that you mostly need to keep the ball in play to avoid many 'environmentally sensitive' areas, which is total BS but that's the way it's set up. Greens not the highlight as they were rolling medium to slow speed and were slightly uneven. Most fairways were in good condition, there are several fairways that have quite a few bare spots and thin lies, many should be marked as GUR. Rough: 2 -3" high, not much of a problem. Traps: well raked and with plenty of sand. POP was at 4.75 hours. Carts have old school GPS (front, middle, back distances) but are very helpful if you've not played here. I'd play it again for sure if passing thru 'Dido, and decent green fees to boot.

Played 5/29 at about 8:45am tee time. Greens are the best I've seen at the Vineyard - medium speed but very receptive to approach shots, very true roll, nice looking without bare or brown patches. Fairways were kind of spotty, with some bare spots and very thin lies. Bunkers were ok, except for a lot of unraked spots from inconsiderate players.

Pace of play was poor at over 5 hours, which is unreasonable on a weekday. The starter had sent out a 5some a couples group in front, all of them quite elderly and several walking. In fairness hey did move reasonably well for a 5some, but no matter how quick they move a 5some is going to jam up the course behind them. Unacceptable for a course to do that, especially a morning time which will have ripple impacts the rest of the day.

I played today, Sunday, Mar. 16th, as part of the St. Patty's Day tournament. The event went off without a hitch thanks to the helpful, friendly, and accommodating staff. It was a gorgeous day and I'm not sure if I've seen the course in much better conditions. Except for a few tee boxes which weren't level, I only have positive words to describe the conditions. The entire course was lush and green. The greens were outstanding and rolled true; although some of the breaks were difficult to read and seemed to break more than anticipated. I didn't hit into any bunkers today so I can't speak to the quality of the sand. I enjoy the layout of the Vineyard. It's fun and offers a good variety in design and playability. There was a drink station set up on the back 9 and the cart girl came around as well. The tournament ended with a pretty good corned beef and cabbage buffet and awards ceremony. All in all, it was a good experience. We paid $79 which included the round with cart, the buffet, and 2 drink tickets. I consider this course to be a decent option for someone looking for a weekend round that won't break the bank. It usually can be found on some of the discount golf sites and I would target a price at around $50.

Played with my normal great group of guys, we enjoy Vineyard because we can walk it without too much trouble and POP is good, they keep moving out there in the mornings. Course is in pretty good shap... Continue »

Played with my normal great group of guys, we enjoy Vineyard because we can walk it without too much trouble and POP is good, they keep moving out there in the mornings. Course is in pretty good shape, doing some work on it still, so in a few weeks, should be real nice. They punched the greens, half and half, so the cups were on a pretty good side, which is nice because I hate getting screwed on those 4 footers by aeration marks, so the holes were placed on the good side of the greens and 10 footers were not affected. Fairways are looking pretty good, bunkers were hit and miss, some fluffy some hardpan. Overall enjoyable round, great bar and Deanna the bartender rocks.

I have not played here since 2000. They reversed the nines which I think was probably a good idea. Overall the course was in very nice condition. The greens which I had cut (Went off first so I was ahead of most of the mowers) were very true and reasonably quick. Some spots in the rough which need some TLC, but otherwise the entire course was fine.

Staff was very nice and accomodating. The course is about like I remember, a very nice experience
