I really liked this course. I’m a fan of links-style courses and this one was great – firm fairways with tight but good lies, lots of fairway undulation and runoffs, and rolling, challenging greens. First time here, and I was reminded of Links at Summerly (when it was in playable condition) and Angeles National.

Thanks to GKer Alex326 who responded to my Meet-Play post and drove down from Monterey to join me at ~8:30am on Thursday, 11/7/19. Alex is great to play with and we had a relaxed, fun round.

Greens were firm but fairly receptive and rolled well at medium+ speed. Coverage was good and speeds were consistent. Only negative was the large number of old and unrepaired ballmarks on all greens – these impacted the visual appeal of the greens and required some attention before you could execute your line. Fairways had good coverage and, though tight, the ball generally sat up nicely. Rough was brutal – getting in that wet monkey grass was a definite penalty and frequently a lost ball. Tees were flat and very playable – we played White, and a couple of times moved back to where the Blue markers were to conform to the white plate distances. Sand was the one big negative – greenside, I was in one bunker with OK sand, although very thin and firm. Fairway bunkers were more likely to be groomed mud.

I had booked an 8am time and was running late driving up from Orange County. I arrived around 8:15 and the shop was great in working us out ahead of a scheduled shotgun tourney. We wound up playing as a twosome with no one pushing us in ~4 hours. Definitely recommended. Wish I could pick this course up and drop it in SoCal.

Played 10-1-19 on a cold morning walking as a single in 2 hours and 15 minutes for $36 as a rewards member. Tee boxes overall were in very nice shape, level and lush with minimal divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in great shape, very green with good roll out and great lies. Rough was cut about 2 inches longer than the fairways and in real good condition, not to difficult to hit from but the ball would sit down a little. Was in two greenside bunkers that were surprisingly in good condition, they still seem to be more dirt than sand but they played very nice if a little firm. Greens were in there typical good shape, a little soft and rolling medium speed and smooth. Overall course is in really nice condition. Definitely worth playing if you are in the area, or want a great course to go to for a golf destination.

Got in a nice pre-Vegas warm up round at Ridge Creek with RGM2525. Track is in it's usual great shape with the fairways once again stealing the show. I easily rated the fairways at an 8.5-9. And I'm proud to say that I found a lot of fairways for a complete testing for that rating.

Tee boxes weren't far behind the fairways. Lush, level and good coverage. There are a couple of short Par 3's at Ridge Creek so naturally those tee boxes during our mid afternoon round had some divots. Was still able to find plenty of clean area to hit from.

Sand traps will always be the weakness of valley courses. It's no exception here. Having said that the one greenside bunker I was in I was able to get out of clean and save par. So they can't be all that bad!

Greens.... Ridge creek has the perfect greens as far as size, undulations, softness and speed. The one down side from keeping them from a 9 or 10 is that they do often get riddled with ball marks from time to time. Today was no exception. There were a few greens where my putt was effected by a pitch mark.

POP was fine. A little bit of waiting on a couple of tees. Only because the twosome in front of us were older and not hitting it as far off the tee so we would have to wait for them to clear out. Once they were on the green they cleared out quickly.

I always enjoy Ridge Creek, not only for the good course conditions but for the off course amenities. The restaurant and clubhouse are Real buildings and make you feel like you're at a top notch course. I ate at the restaurant before and after the round! Only place in the valley I'll eat fish tacos!!

Played 6-15 and 6-16 early morning as a foursome the first day and a threesome the second day and getting around the course in about 4 hours and 20 minutes both days. Not much has changed from playing here last week, overall course is still in really good condition. Green side bunkers may have had the sand turned a little bit more, they didn't feel as firm as last week. They said they are going to punch the greens next week with small holes, and they should heal up in about 7- 10 days. As summer moves along I would only expect the conditions to keep improving. If you are in the area or not I would recommend coming out a playing here.

Played in the GK Plays event on 6/9 and had a great time. Course is probably the best Links style course I've played, especially for being in the middle of California. I loved the option to keep it on the ground on approaches if the path was clear. Fairways ran firm and fast, but were nice to hit from and did not have any bare spots. Unfortunately if you ran off the fairway you ended in the nastiest fescue I've ever seen on a course, and if you didn't see where the ball went in, you had less than a 50/50 chance of finding. The greens surprised me. While not the best looking, they were pretty true and medium-fast. As everyone has mention, the bunkers were not in great shape and a product of the environment. They're totally exposed to the elements and remind me of desert course bunkers in the dead of summer. Course was fun to play, with a few short par 4s and some very long ones, and a nice variety of short/long par 3s. I did see a snake behind the 15th green, which if I saw earlier would of cut my lost ball search time to zero. Lots of undulation from tee to green. Outside services was minimum and the drink cart made her last round while we were on 3, but you can swing past the bar after 9. Hydration was important and there's plenty of water coolers around the course. The restaurant, 3 Finger Jack, had incredible food. I had a sandwich before the round and a great sausage ravioli dinner afterwards.

The course is 30 minutes from my house and it’s become my home course per-say. The greens were dry and quick and I had the Scotty workin’ well!

Overall, not too much needs to be said that hasn’t already been said.

The rough is no joke out here! The weeds and native areas are no joke and it took some muscle to get it out which, most of the time I was able to but still wasn’t too accurate at times.

The biggest glaring concern I have with the course is something that many have mentioned already. The bunkers. Many of them were very bare and hard pan, which left many lies very tough. Especially on certain holes where tucked near a bunker. It’ll get a lot of play. I’m hoping since were getting into the summer, and the rain has long been gone, that they’ll put some sand into the bunker to give the golfer a chance at a solid, good chance at a good recovery.

All in all, the bunkers won’t stop me from playing out here. It’s a great course and a great place to grab a bite before or after your round!!

Had a wonderful time playing with fellow GKers. The course had a nice layout that played tougher than its slope. Fairly wide fairways off the tee but straying more than a few yards from the fairway was trouble. Many well placed fairway and greenside bunkers added plenty of challenge. The greens had many suttle breaks that were difficult to read. Definitely a course I would play again. Overall I found conditions to be good to great with the exception of the bunkers. The greens for the most part rolled smooth with medium/fast speed and held solidly struck shots. The fairways were great (tight lies with a little cushion). The rough along the fairways was low and only a few yards wide. Beyond the primary rough was lost ball territory. The tee boxes were good and mostly level. The bunkers were firm compacted sand. While firm fairway bunkers can be nice, deep high faced greenside bunkers with hard sand can make it quite difficult to hit a good shot.
There is grass driving and practice putting green. There is a nice proshop and a cafe with bar. Thanks to all the friendly staff at Ridge Creek.

Played 6-9-19 in a GK Plays with Ed, Martin, and Wendy, getting around the course in about 4 hours and having a great time. Tee boxes were mostly in good shape with some divot damage on par threes. I really like the fairways in the condition they are in right now, playing more like a links course should, with semi-tight lies and good roll out giving you different options on how you want to play. Primary rough is cut very low, and as people have stated get past that and your ball is probably lost. Bunker could use a little more maintenance, they have enough sand in them but it is just to compacted making for some difficult shots. Greens were very soft, and rolling good at medium/fast speed. Always love playing this course, with great customer service and a wonderful layout, it is definitely worth the 3 hour drive. Thanks John for setting this up.

Played in my first GK outing on 6/9/19. Great time on a great golf course and we meet some really nice guys out there. I look forward to playing more events and returning to this gem of a golf course. Since so many others have reviewed this course and rated it recently i just wanted to add a couple of observations. conditions were very good throughout and i agree the bunkers need more consistency. Many high lips on the traps made it difficult to get the ball close from tight/inconsistent lies. The greens rolled great with very few bumps. Repaired ball marks were prominent which shows that players were respectful of others by repairing them. I had no issues with the fairways and tees.
Played again on Monday walking and this is a great course to walk. We finished in 4 hours with no waiting after playing through a slow foursome. One thing i think need to be addressed here would be to have sand carriers on the pull carts and perhaps stations near the landing areas. I did see many unrepaired divots in the fairways which can only be attributed to walkers not having sand the fill them.
Can't wait to return!!! Highly recommended. Thanks to Johnny and the GK gang.
