Played on Tuesday teeing off about 6:35 finishing in 4:05. The greens rolled with medium/fast speed, mostly smooth, and held shots. Like most older parkland golf courses the greens primarily slope back to front. When the greens get on the fast side at Eldo try to avoid being above the hole. It's difficult to stop putts by the hole especially with front pin placements. Unfortunately I fixed a lot of ball marks today. Lazy golfers! The fairways mostly have good coverage with some thin/bare spots. The rough around the greens and along the fairways has good coverage but among the trees there are thin/bare spots scattered about. The rough was long enough to affect shots but not too penal. The bunkers are in good condition. The tee boxes have fair to good coverage. Always enjoy playing Eldo. One of my favorite munis in the Long Beach/North O.C. area. The staff was friendly.

Teed off Tuesday morning about 7am finishing in 4:10. The greens are completely healed from aeration a few weeks ago. They were in very good condition rolling smooth with medium/fast speed and holding shots. The fairways had good coverage with a few thin spots and provided decent rollout on tee shots. The rough along the fairways and around the greens had mostly solid coverage. Among the trees the rough tends to have thin/bare spots scattered about. The length definitely affects shots but not too penal. The bunkers were well groomed, other than lazy golfers leaving footprints. The couple greenside bunkers I was in had good sand to play from. The tee boxes have fair to good coverage and are mildly unlevel in spots. The driving range does not open until 11am on Tuesdays. There is also two practice putting greens and a chipping green. Always enjoy a round at Eldo. The staff was friendly.

Played 9/28/23 @ 0900. Course was nice and green but like everyone is saying, the green fees are a little steep- $50 to walk... But I must say, the course is in great condition. Tees nice and level. Fairways had great coverage all around, rough was just a little longer than the fairway and would get thicker the closer you got to the trees. Fairway bunkers looked like they had good sand in them, the two greenside bunkers that I was in played nice but there's only a small layer of sand that's fluffy then it's hard packed. Greens rolled great and were hard to figure out with really subtle breaks, I'm not sure but I didn't think they tapped the edges down when they put the holes in this morning. Three puts of my putts were deflected off from going in because of the "mounding" that was left. Hole 7 is going to be temporary for a least a month... someone vandalized it the night before and the damage was severe.

Played Eldo in a rare mid-morning round. While I have always liked Eldo, it has never treated me well. Always seem to struggle here. I don't know if it was the course, the pace of play, or just the fact I don't play very well anymore! Certainly not use to the pace of play, being accustomed to quick early rounds, so maybe I'll use that as an excuse.

Mark's most recent review was spot on. Greens certainly the best part of the course. Better than can remember when I played here on a more regular basis years ago. Rough here has always been inconsistent, so no surprise there. Despite the long afternoon, the questionable performance on my part, still had a good time. However, I just cannot get over how expensive it is to play here now. I remember the days when it was $4. (Am I showing my age again?) Those days, like my distance/skills are long gone.

Played here today with a 2:20 TeeOff.com "Deal" time for $25 with cart! Amazing deal that popped up sometime Friday morning. Check-in was simple and I was paired with a threesome. Started right on time behind a twosome who were directly behind a tournament. Pace was slow – three groups were backed up on the par-5 7th tee – but overall time on course was surprisingly decent at a little under five hours. The projected high temps didn't really pan out as it was cloudy and breezy much of the day; almost felt like midwestern thunderstorm weather. Hole 1 was CPO. Conditions are pretty good. Greens are the highlight, running smooth and medium-fast. They accepted full shots well but shots from the rough and/or shorter shots ran out some. The poa was flowering a lot late in the afternoon but it didn't affect any putts; just gave the surfaces almost like a white sheen. Fairways were mostly good except some dried out spots here and there. Rough was a mixed bag of thick kikuyu and thinner areas, some bare spots. I was in several bunkers and they were all pretty good – fairway bunkers were hard and thin while greenside bunkers had lots of soft sand. Blue tee boxes were the low point; lumpy, not level in many places, and lots of divots. Hadn't played here for a while and loved the deal I got. (Normal rates have gotten quite expensive here.) At one point ElDo was my favorite Long Beach course but now I think I prefer Rec Park. ElDo is a tougher test but is flat and pretty boring where Rec Park takes advantage of contours much more. Played terribly today but still had fun. I always like the Long Beach courses when temps are forecast to be super hot. Beverage cart was out and about, but like RDDenn mentioned, the snack shop was not open.

Played early today, 6/25, around 6:30 am. Started about 10 minutes late but the course moved okay. Finished in about 4:15. Nice to get out here again. The course is in excellent shape. Lush fairways and rough. The greens were very nice. Consistently fast. Just a nice day at a good public course. $63 to walk for a non-resident but the conditions merited it.

Place was packed also. The range was about full when I got there at 6:10 and completely full when we finished. One thing, they have a cart girl now (we saw her on 14) and the snack shack near 2 and 14 greens was closed. There is a sign on it saying that it is empty when closed and entrance is prohibited. "Final warning." Sad to see that.

Played on May 23rd, the course was in great shape. We started at 10:40 am and finished in 4 hours and 15 minutes.

The bunkers were not horrible, although some could use some additional sand.

The rough was just long enough to be penalizing.

Overall challenging course, I will play here again.

had 5:40 am tee time. amazing pace. 2 some behind us was slow. we saw that the entire course was backed up. after about 13th hole they started to catch up. pace of play for everyone else looked brutual. most fairway has enough trouble to make it challenging. fairway conditional was amazing but the green was even better. fast and smooth green. would love to go back but looking at the pace of play I may reconsider unless it's first few tee times of the day(most early birds like to move fast) snack shop was open til later so not sure how it is.

This review is a week late but figured this course hasn’t been reviewed in a while and it’s worth an update. I played on 5/11 Thursday, my first time since the course was under water from all the rains. Happy to report that the course is playing like it used to. Fairways were mostly nice to play from, no more standing water, and generally very green. The greens were also in good shape, had been lightly sanded a few days before but otherwise very puttable and nice rolls. The bunkers were pretty poor, some with standing water in them and all pretty thin and/or muddy. But the course is definitely playable and I might play again in a few days.
