Conditions have improved here at LV since my last post, good to see. Fairways/rough are greener and show some definition, bunkers in good shape (please rake) but look out for the the hardpan under the surface, and greens are rolling true but a bit slower than I'd like to see. We went off just a bit late (7am with a 6:50 tee time) on a Sunday morning ... play was a bit labored due to a walking 4-some which had no business playing this early as slow as they were. Fortunately, the Marshall was on them or it could have been worse. We got around in 4:30, acceptable for LV. Overcast sky, mild temps, slight breeze ... a great day on the peninsula.
Now, if they could just work to rid the course of that wire grass!

I expected the greens to be bumpy due to the recent punching, but for the most part they were just fine. A little bumpy in parts, but overall not a problem. I thought the course was in pretty good condition, all things considered.

Used to play here a lot, but since moving to Coto de Caza, not so much anymore. Always tough to get a tee time here. And when you are lucky enough to secure one, you'll get off anywhere from 15-30 minutes late, and them it will take forever to play. ( 5:45 to play after a 12 min delay to tee off) A very long day!

The greens are healing very nicely from the aeration. Course has a new superintendent who formerly worked at Palos Verdes CC (started Monday). So it will be interesting to see how the course comes together. They also have a new GM running the place. Plans apparently have been drawn up to make some changes (bunkers, cart paths, tee boxes, tree maintenance) possibly starting end of year or early next year. Looks like it is going to be an interesting year at LV? The course was in very good playing condition today. Not very crowded due to the cool day and overcast sky. Finished our round in 4 hours.

I've heard there are improvements in the future for LV (re-routing some cart paths and tee locations) but time will tell. I'd settle for some condition upgrades especially fairways and rough ... there's wire grass everywhere. Maybe I'm picky cuz I don't agree that conditions are 'good' or even 'okay' here. Just too many bad lies even when in the fairway on this course ... and I play here every Sunday.

Greens are nearly recovered (one more week) from aeration, although this weekend they were cut high and rolling very slow, although true ... not holding shots very well to boot. That will change when they decide to give 'em a closer mow.

The course is in very nice shape. The recent rains have helped the fairways and the greens. Half of each green was aerated April 11/12 but they are looking really good. Some of the greens are a little slower than others and some are a little fast. But over all they play just fine, in my opinion. The greens will again be aerated April 25/26 so suggest you get out and play before then.

Played early today. Wind was howling. There was almost no evidence of the rain yesterday. The course drains really well. Not lush but conditions were okay. The half of the greens which were aerated recently are healing but still bumpy. The greens were surprisingly firm even the punched side. They verticut the greens recently and they were inconsistent but generally a little slower than normal. We played in less than 4.5 hours so the pace was okay.

The course was in decent shape considering they were punching half of the greens.

I will say this - it is the home of the six hour round. We played later in the afternoon and it was still long. Took roughly 3 hours to play the front 9.
the fairways were in somewhat decent shape, and the tee boxes needed a little work. The course gets so much play that it is unfair to give it such a bad rating.

What the course lacks in presentation (on its bad days) is VEIW - which is huge out here. With all of the waiting the views really make a difference. The also make a difference on the slope of the greens as well.

I would visit this course anytime and with a little more water this course will be in fine shape.

Played Twilight. Worse mistake I could ever make, we barely finished 9 holes after 3 long hours. No mistaking the course conditions are actually quite good even with 1/2 of each green punched. The greens rolled pretty true and quick. The Sand in the bunkers well stocked. Fairways lush and tee boxes are flat as well as lush. It's the long wait. That seems to counterbalance all the great things this course has to offer. Sure they offer great views at 1/5 the price of Trump and 1/2 of that new executive course in PV but come on 3 hours to play 9 holes? I mean really I could have walked on my knees the whole course faster than we played this round of just 9 bloody holes. When I was young this course was my home course. I thought it was difficult. Nowadays maybe I am a bit jaded but the course doesn't play that difficult. Most of the trouble you deal with is self dealt. What you see is what you get at this course and includes the diabolical greens. Remember they say the all balls roll towards the ocean but even more simpler that that. The course sits on a side of a HILL. Get that into your head and note where the green is in proximity to the hillside and you will figure out the most screwiest breaks imaginable. Maybe it's me but it wasn't that hard after that it was the long wait that was grueling. It felt like the first tee box on every hole the amount of time we had to wait. Personally I could do without the aggravation and more with the playing of golf. Golf is so much more frustrating if you can't even get your game going b/c the pace is so slow. My advice ... either play REALLY early in the AM or find another South Bay course to play twilight b/c it really isn't worth the trouble and frustration.

Indeed, the greens have been punched (big holes) and only one side, so many putts will have to transition from aerated to non-aerated ... and the non-aerated is very fast right now with dry/hard conditions everywhere. Wednesdays predicted rain may help but I doubt it unless it really pours. They should punch the second half of the greens in two weeks. Unpredictable rolls in fairways and on the greens will make for higher scores and slower play, but we went around on a Sunday morning in 4:25, which for LV is a fast round. And be careful of the wire grass which can break a club or a wrist ... that stuff is taking over the course.
