With the forecast of 90+ degree temperatures, San Clemente was the logical choice. Coupled with the most recent review, was excited to get back out here. As expected, the course is in really nice condition right now, particularly the greens. Truth is, nothing to complain about - course is overall in great shape. The only downside is how much the rates have increased since the last time I played here, but it's 2026 and South Orange County, so should be grateful it was as reasonable as it was. Compared to everywhere else, it's a bargain.

Played San Clemente for the first time this morning. Walked 18 in 3.5 hours with a 6:27 tee time. Super impressed with the layout, condition and pace of play. Fairways and tee boxes are in excellent shape. Greens are also excellent and look pretty straight forward until you putt them and encounter subtle breaks that may not be easy to see at first glance. And they are fast. Fast, but fair. Amazingly, I avoided the sand for all 18 holes so can't comment on the traps condition. Pro shop staff and Marshall were top shelf, professional and personable. I have lived in San Diego area for 25 plus years and can't believe today was the first time I played this gem. I'll be back!

POP was a surprisingly quick 4:15 for a 12:45 tee off. Don't usually see that.

Played Muni on 11/26. I was not aware that they had a new Head Greenskeeper, but one of my playing partners told me on #1 tee. And we get to #1 green, and there he is, checking things out at 6:40 am.

Played Muni on 11/26. I was not aware that they had a new Head Greenskeeper, but one of my playing partners told me on #1 tee. And we get to #1 green, and there he is, checking things out at 6:40 am.

He's doing a great job so far. This course has always had a good grass foundation, but this looks even better. Tee boxes are just really good...although a few were very shaggy (but the mower was on a different tee box, so I think we were just too early. Fairways are great as always.

The greens are a bit longer than I am used to seeing here. The tough fast greens (and chipping) is the tough part at Muni, but now they are only "quick" and not treacherous. Softer greens too. This will make the greens a bit easier. Chipping is still tough here. The fairways are also a bit longer than normal - but in great shape. That will make the course play a little longer. In all, I like the subtle changes.

They lost their super and these greens are now much slower to go along with the devastatingly slow play. Had to leave yesterday because of it. Wait on every tee box due to one slow group a hole behind... Continue »

Wait on every tee box due to one slow group a hole behind and no marshal willing to make them speed up. The course is decent but pace of play stinked and effects your game.

Played SC Muni on 9/10/25.

Fairways have dropped a notch since I last played here. But last time - fairways were fantastic, so no where to go but down a notch. Still mostly very good, but there are several spots that were dried out and thin - not a surprise for late summer heat. Same for the rough, which is normal for Muni.

Greens - I don't know if they have a new formula, but the greens are amazing right now. Shockingly green and plush for late summer. Usually this time of year, they are getting dried out and dangerously fast. This year they are just so green and plush and smooth. Kudos to the SC staff.

Still my highest "bargain" recommendation.

Played Muni on 5/5. 3 weeks post-aeration, and the greens are not there yet. Still somewhat bouncy and not rolling true.

Outside of the greens, everything else is in great shape.

Of note, vandals partied on #3 green the night before, so #3 has a temp green while repairs are made. My guess (based on nothing - just a guess) is they will have the green back in play in a few days, but it will be a while until it fully recovers.
