Teed off today at 2:22, $37 twilight w/cart. Pace was decent, we were able to finish with maybe 3 groups behind us able to as well. Course conditions didn't make a huge impression on me either way, so I'll just say it's decent right now. The tee boxes were fine except for the uneven par 3 boxes. Fairways were nice and full, if maybe a little too spongy at times, and the rough wasn't much different. I wasn't in any bunkers but they looked fine, maybe a bit wet in places. The greens held shots well, but were way slower than expected. They didn't seem to hold lines very well, and there were a lot of unfixed ball marks. A whole lot. Plus plenty of spots where unfixed or poorly fixed marks didn't heal well. Overall, the course is very green and full, but doesn't play quite as good as it looks. Oh, and don't use the ball washers. The "water" in them smells disgusting, and it's been that way every time I've played here recently. I'm not taking this course out of my rotation or anything, but I won't rush back either.

Played here Monday afternoon on a twilite rate, plus a cart for $41. Not a deal by any means, but the course was in mostly excellent condition, including lush green fairways and greens that were mostly smooth and rolled true and were medium-fast. Tee boxes were spotty at times, particularly on the par 3s, which seemed impossible to get an even stance/lie - not sure why this is such a problem to solve. Pace of play was at near-record pace, completing the round in just 3 hours. After sailing through the front 9 in 1 hour and 12 minutes, we waited on every hole from the 12th onwards, but obviously, it was not too bad. Agree with the previous reviewer that the lack of good, drinkable water and/or a cart to come around with drinks is not great. The bar/cafe does sell drinks, etc., and is directly en route between the front and back nines for the Classic course. A good course to BYOB, albeit discreetly, so plan accordingly.

Played on Sunday, August 21st, and found the course itself to be in great shape. Disappointed though at grass mat driving range with no tees provided. Most disappointing though, and anyone planning to play there should take note, no water is available on the course except for one fountain near a restroom, and we never saw a beverage cart. On a warm sunny day, way too far between opportunities to get any water.

I played a mid-morning round on Sunday 5/1 at the Classic, course is in okay shape, PoP around 4.5 hrs. They must have given the greens keepers the day off because the fairways were shaggy as were the tee boxes. Rough ranged from non-existent to deep, but it's mostly tight Kikuyu grass which would sit your ball up more often than not. Bunkers a bit unkempt but thin/playable. Greens mostly medium speed, elevated and back to front sloped without much undulation, held every shot like velcro. Wide fairways with trees being the only defense minus a few H2O hazards that really only come into play on one hole (#14): a scorers paradise. Still think it's overpriced (50 clams walking) for what you get here but it's not over the top ... barely. If the rating tool was working I'd rate it around 6.0. Greens good, everything else meh.

Course was in real good shape, tees boxes, fairways, greens were very good, rough not too penal but you knew you were in it. Was in 1 green side trap and was a little hard, but I also hit a terrible shot. Greens are deceiving the guys were reading more break than was there. This happened green after green. I really like this course, played from the blue has good length on some holes and has some you have to lay up on and think.

Played the Classic course on 1 April, ten days after small bore punching. A bit of an issue still with the amount of sand still on the greens, which was a bit of a surprise. Definitely affected the roll of putts. No mention of the green condition by the pro shop staff when walking up and paying. They could've suggested the Players course, which was not currently punched. Over at Costa Mesa, I've played two days after small bore punching and sanding, and those greens were so much better, 8 days earlier in the recovery process. I'd expect these greens to be in near-normal shape perhaps another week to ten days. Suggest waiting at least until 8 April 2016 before giving these Classic greens a go.

Played 3/31 teeing off just before 4:00p and finishing right as the sun set. This course is right across the street from my office, so I've played it (and the Players side) a lot. I've had some issues with the customer service over the years (they won't let you pay for your round and range balls at the same time - so you end up paying for a bucket then hitting 3 balls only to have them then call your name over the PA and you have to go back in to pay again, they won't let you check in the whole group even if you're paying for everyone, when an odd number of players are all riding they charge the single rider for the whole cart, the cart fee doesn't go down with the green fee for twilight, etc). Basically, they nickel and dime you to death and inconvenience the customer for the convenience of the pro shop staff. I worked in pro shops all through college, so I know it's not that hard.

However, I've come to know what to expect with the check-in process and pricing, and I'm starting to think it's even worth it. They consistently have better conditions than any of the other munis in the area. It's never immaculate, but it's always a 7/10 and the greens are the best in the area. They punched the greens (very small punch holes) two weeks ago, and they were medium speed and smooth already, with a very slight layer of sand. They were rolling more true in this condition than several other public places in the area do when at their best. And the layout of the Classic course is one of my favorites in the North OC/LB area.

Always enjoy playing this course as it is just good basic golf! The only holes I really don't care for are the "new holes". Overall course is in decent shape. The greens rolled well and were receptive to good shots. Bunkers were hit or miss. Fairways had some bare spots, but still playable.

As long as you get out early the pace of play is acceptable. We need more of these "no frills" solid traditional golf courses. The price is a little high, but for Orange County, not too bad considering. Fun Day with great weather.

Its been a while since I've played Mile Square but met an old friend today for an 8:00 am tee time. Reserved the time via the Mile Square web site as I couldn't find any deals on golf now or anywhere else. I usually walk but since my friend wanted to ride, I joined him. $51 for a weekday seems a bit steep for a muni but what the hec. Overall the place is in good shape and was very busy for a weekday. We joined up with a single and got around in 3:45. The fairways are pretty good. Still some bare spots out there but not terrible. Greens were on the fast side and rolled true. There were a lot of old ball marks which was disappointing but didn't affect play. The rough was thick and there are a lot of trees so you cannot miss fairways here or you will pay the price. Tee boxes need some work but the sand traps are are really nice. Not that being in a sand trap is a nice thing but they have good, fluffy sand. No hard pan. I wouldn't say this was a real difficult course to play but sand traps come into play on the fairways and greens. Some of them are deep so stay away from them. Looks like this place gets a lot of play both weekends/weekdays and the knock on this place has always been slow play with 5somes. We didn't experience that today probably because we got out early enough. The 4some in front of us kept up as well. The restaurant was packed also. I would play this place again.
