Was down in the OC for work but when done found myself near Mile Square and had the inclination to play the Players course again to right a bad score from my first and only visit there three years ago, but because of a tournament on that 18, I was given the option to play the Classic course for the first time. Sure, why not?

Played the blue tees with three other singles and we had a really nice, fun and cordial group. I enjoyed the very flat course much more than I expected, but it's nothing super exciting at the end of the day. It's a nice, relatively challenging layout (and 6700 yards from the blues) with some water in play on the back nine, but mostly a good amount of into-the-wind long par 4s to give you trouble.

Conditions are pretty good across the board. Everything is nice, not super great. Totally playable, though. Fairways have some nice sections of greenery, some a bit dried out. The greens are mostly in good condition with some dried out areas and a few ball marks here and there, but hold shots well and roll quite true. Rough is cut nicely to not be too penal, and the greenside sand traps have a fair amount of fluffy sand in them, while the fairway traps are maybe a bit too fluffy for what they should be.

All in all was a very good, fast choice to play this course for the first time and I would recommend it right now for a just-above average So Cal muni experience.

Teed off at 6:45 on Wednesday and finished in 4:10. The greens rolled good with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had good coverage with a few thin spots. The only bad fairway is part of 16 which is thin/bare. The rough is mostly good with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers have good sand but can be quite wet in the morning. The tee boxes are fair to good due to mild unlevelness. The Classic course is an old school track (straight to minor doglegs with large trees lining fairways). Most holes give ample room off the tee. It is an enjoyable track with usually very good greens. The staff was friendly.

Played the Classic course with Dconnolly for our GK Cup Match play. After playing the week before the greens seem to be healing up nicely. Greens were soft but rolled medium speed and were fairly easy to read. Most puts stayed true to the line. One thing i noticed over last week was the amount of ball marks on the green. There was a ton of big deep ball marks left unrepaired. David is particular about walking his put and checking for debris or irregular greens. This is a great habit and makes you a more consistent putter. He also fixes every mark he sees which leaves greens better then he left them. It seemed like there were a lot more fairway divots then the week before. Fairways still had great roll and mostly lush. Pace of play was great for a Friday afternoon round at 4 hours. One thing I do have to bring up is the confusion of the starter. We were told to go tee off and had a group in front of us the had just driven up. The starter had to come out and get the other group off the tee box and they refused to leave. The single with us teed off with all four of the other group arguing with the starter right behind him on the tee box.... Besides that great round for a fair price!

Played at 1:37pm on a clear, warm and breezy Friday, 3/31/17, in a GK Cup match against apisarski. First time meeting Alex and we had an enjoyable round, joined by a local retired single. Greens were punched 10 days ago but were in pretty good shape – a little soft, a little bumpy, but rolled OK at medium-fast speed, getting faster on the back nine. Many old and recent ballmarks. Lies in the fairway kikuyu were good, although you don’t get a lot of rollout. Many unfilled divots and slashes. Rough was generally pretty short and could be dry and crusty or patchy lush. One fairway trap that I was in was very firm. Tees were OK, generally level, and par-3s (esp. #13) were pretty torn up. No sand bins on the par-3s.

Pace was surprisingly good at just over 4 hours – we asked the group in front of us on #6 tee to move a little faster, as the hole was open. Despite the unhappy response, they seemed to keep up better. Saw the cart girl once; there’s a snack bar at the tur. No marshal. A solid course for $27 walking on a Friday afternoon.

I played Mile Square with Gregholla on Sunday MArhc 26th. We had a 1:50 PM tee time and were paired with another twosome that didn't speak English. First of we had called over the phone and booked at rate with cart for $27 but when arrived we were told that it will be $37 each when we arrived. After explaining that we were told the rate was lower the starter was rather short and rude and refused to work with us. We decided to pay the additional rate and let it go. Once we made it on to the course we were pleasantly surprised with great conditions besides the greens. Greens looked to have been very recently punched and sanded. They played super soft and any high shot plugged. Putting proved somewhat challenging for pretty simple breaks. We missed a few easy puts when our balls would take and random jump or direction change. Besides the greens, the rest of the course was in great shape. Fairways, tee boxes, and rough were all very plush for an community course. Some tee boxes had a decent amount of divots, mostly par 3s, but you could find a good lie. The couple sand traps we found were soft fluffy white sand and allowed for easy escape. Pace of play was great and we finished in just over 4 hours.

Teed off Wednesday morning at 7:15 finishing in 3:50. The greens rolled good with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had good coverage overall with a few thin spots. The fairways had cuts in them running tee to green but did not affect play. The rough was mostly good with some thin/bare areas. The bunkers were good. The tee boxes were fair to good. The course has managed the rains well except the falling trees. A starter in the pro shop told me they had 20 downed trees due to recent rains and wind. I know Mile Square is not the only course dealing toppled trees. The Classic Course is aptly named. Large tree lined fairways with strategically placed fairway bunkers. Most holes are straight to mild doglegs. Water comes into play on several holes. It is an enjoyable course to play. The staff was very friendly.

I haven't played here in quite a while so thought it was time. Got a 9:15 tee time on Sunday 2/26/17 for $52 with a cart so jumped on it. With rain in the forecast again we decided to walk the course to stay warm. It rained off and on all day but we were still able to Finnish our round and I only 4.25 hours. The course is in better than average shape right now highlighted by real nice smooth greens. the fairways were mostly lush but soggy and the traps played great. Tee boxes were level and the service was great too. For a muni this really is a fun track and can play long from the back tees. This course may not have the personality of places like Rustic or Black Gold but still can be a fun round with great conditions right now.

for all the play that these course get , they are in great condition and the greens were great, sand traps consistant, fairways were good with some bare areas. the pace of play was good and the course is a challenge with mature trees and a little bit of water to think about too. I think it has more character than the Players course. The price is reasonable , but only complaint is they NEVER have any deals for locals or just deals for anyone! That needs to change. They have an app and promised deals with the app..but only have seen one in years it has been out.

Played Mile Square Classic on Friday Oct 21 st, Had a 7:22 tee time, teed off right on time. We walked the course and it was $42, I thought that was ok, and that is why I would rather play Fridays than Saturdays, "price". POP was 4:05 we have done better. We were following a riding 3 some the front 9 and had to wait on them most holes even though our 4 some was walking. They only play 9 and then there was a riding 4 some in front of us on the back 9 and they had a good pace. There was a very bad smell on holes 1 and 2, smelled like sewerage but once we got away from the water trench it seemed to go away. The smell was gone when we finished 18 and was near the club house at 11:30. I thought the course was very green and lush. No issues with the tee boxes and the fairways were very green, no brown spots, rough was not penal but did affect your shots. Greens held shots very well, I play the Srixon Soft Feel yellow ball and shots from 160 out were still within 2 feet of my landing spot. Shots 135 out were within 8 inches. Greens rolled well. I have been putting better on the front 9 than the back 9 lately, I think I am trying too hard. Was in a green side bunker on 9 and I thought the sand was thin, luckily I was not in any other bunkers. Had the 2 tacos for lunch and it was very good, light and just enough to eat without pigging out. LOL... Service in the coffee shop is great, really nice waitresses.
