played here yesterday as a fivesome with carts. we teed off at 7:45 and finished about 12:00. I have to say that the greens are very nice right now. Running about 10 and most have some undulations. This is not an overly tough course with wide fairways and not much OB but it can still be a little tricky around the greens. The greens are the best part right now and the other areas could use some attention. Most tee boxes were level but inconsistent in length, the fairways were similar to the tees and so was the rough. The bunkers were okay and played well. With the rains coming things will really start to grow and then it would be a good time for their crews to work on being consistent. Fun course to play though.

Teed off Thursday morning at 7am and finished in 3:45. The greens were in good condition. They rolled good with fast speed. Getting above the hole on some pin placements left a difficult putt. The greens were on the firm side with full shots releasing a little bit and chips running out more than one would think. The fairways were in good shape. The rough was mostly good with some patchy areas. The bunkers were well groomed but two of the three I was in were thin of sand in the bottom. The tee boxes were fair to good. A few of the tee markers were in spots that made it difficult to find a level lie. I enjoy the Classic course. Old school parkland style golf with large trees lining the fairways and some elevated greens pitched back to front. All the staff I encountered were friendly.

It had been a while since I played here, so was looking forward to the round. 6:22am tee time, but as there were no scheduled tee times for at least 30 minutes after ours, so we waited until it was light to hit off. Nice easy stroll with nobody in front or behind us, so an unhurried 3 hour pace was perfect.

Greens were better than expected, with some tough positions, made for a few tough putts. Fairways/rough was OK. I was in two bunkers - both well maintained with enough sand.

Always enjoy playing these courses, still much prefer the Classic to the Players course. $38 to walk is I feel a bit steep, but I know, it's Orange County. But when you consider the quality of golf on the LA County courses for $16.50, tough to swallow

Played the front 9 holes today at the 'super twilight' $16 walking rate. Starts at 3pm these days, and I teed it up at 3:26 as a single. Only a few 2somes riding in carts front of me, otherwise the course was nearly empty. Ended up catching the 2some in front on the 9th hole. 1 1/2 hours for the 9, getting in just past sunset.

Tees were fair, annoyingly chewed up on 5 of the 9 holes at the white markers. Fairways rolled out a good bit today, due to all the winds we've been having. Mostly good lies. Wasn't in any bunkers, or rough, for that matter. Greens were very firm, not allowing for much stick'em with approach shots. But, they did putt fast and were mostly smooth with very little in terms of bumps/foot traffic.

Thought the course was in 'good' condition, but nothing to write home about... just a GK review.

A late AM round on the Classic, Sat 11/4/17. PoP very slow today at 5:15 probably due to the lengthy Kikuyu rough (difficult finding errant tee balls) and shaggy fairways. Don't know what's up here but the previous posts mention the same conditions ... maintenance seems sub-par for this usually decent course. Greens were firm and fast, mostly true and decent conditions with not too many ball marks to repair, but so hard that only a well stuck iron would check up. Bunkers had thin sand over firm base but playable ... however, I did see a few flyers. Unfortunately, I'll wait to see a good review before I come back ... at $52 walking on a weekend I think I can find better deals. If they get the maintenance crew on the course with their mowers and soften up the greens a tad, then the Classic will play like it's old self. Maybe the rain coming in next week will help with the later.

Played here as a 3some on Monday, 10/30, teeing off at 1:50pm. Pleasant greeting at the pro shop, and our group was called about 15 mins prior to tee time. POP was great, 3hrs 35mins with no waiting on the 4some in front. There was a quick, walking lady 2some that seemed to always be lurking behind us, so everyone was moving at a good pace on this cool and comfortable afternoon. They are usually pretty efficient getting people out on time, and golfers here keep POP moving along.

Tees and fairways were fairly long kikuyu, with not a lot of roll-out. Had a wet, muddy ball at least 5 times for a 2nd shot. Did not visit any sandy beaches today, but my playing partners had some good shots and 'sandys' out of them.

Greens seemed to be pretty much healed from their punching over 6 weeks ago and mostly decent. But, there were 3 or so greens that just seemed unhealthy, with large splotchy, uneven and bumpy areas. Otherwise, they were medium to medium-slow most of the day, with an annoying number of bumps and older ball marks in the way of my lines. A bit of a disappointment, to be honest.

I remember playing the 'Classic' course when it was the only course here back in the 80's and early 90's. The new 4 holes (14,15,16,17) are OK, but I've never really thought much of them and today didn't change my opinion. They just seem like an afterthought, squeezed in, or 'oh, btw' and the fairways are still struggling to take hold (as with all of the Players course) 20 years later.

Cart girl was by twice. Never saw a marshal, but they weren't needed on Classic today.

Playing from the whites is 6415 yards. Probably a bit long for my games these days. The gold tees are 5755. Something in-between those two yardages seems in order. I do enjoy the layout on most of the holes on Classic. Fairways are pretty wide, so grip it and rip it.

Teed off Tuesday at 6:45 and finished in 3:40. The greens were decent. The greens rolled mostly smooth (a few bumpy spots) with medium/fast speed and held shots. The greens rolled better than they looked. Hopefully after the coming aeration heels the greens will be very good again. The fairways had mostly good coverage with some thin areas. The rough was a mixed bag. You either had a lie most would consider normal length rough to some thin/bare spots to rough long enough you had to stand next to the ball to see it. The bunkers looked decent but wet. The tee boxes were mostly good but a little chewed up in spots. I enjoy playing the Classic course. The condition are just a step below what I usually find. The staff was friendly.

Stopped here to wait out the traffic after working in the Inland Empire yesterday morning. Didn't work too well because we played in 3.5 hours and I ended up hitting the freeway in the rush hour peak. Can't beat the pace of play though. $41 to ride on a hot afternoon.

The course was in pretty good shape. The Classic course is quite lush on the front nine and decent but not as lush on the back nine. The rough was up and we had to spend some time looking for balls, including one I could not find on No. 9. The only negatives to the round were the greens being slower than normal, less than medium speed, and no sand in one bunker I was in. They had a top layer of sand on some greens. I could not tell if it was spot repair work or if the sand had been assimilated into the greens in some places. Either way, it did not help the speed problem.

The service was good throughout. I'll be back.

Got out this morning at 6:30, $52 rack rate to walk. The course was damp and really shaggy throughout, like it hadn't been mowed in a couple of days. The tee boxes were too long, the fairways didn't have much roll, and the rough was up quite a bit, making recovery shots difficult. Just very lush, a little too lush, overall. My legs are really sore from all the extra resistance from pushing my cart through the long grass, fairway or otherwise. I wasn't in any sand but my partner was and it was wet and firm. The greens totally saved the day...fast, receptive, true, and barely any ball mark damage. A joy to putt on, even though my putter wasn't listening to me today. This course is a little steep for what you get with the riding rate, but the price to walk makes it a decent choice. I'll play here again after they mow the lawn!!!
