Chances are I'm going to hate a course nicknamed "Mission Impossible" but I loved Mission Viejo. The layout is interesting, generous and varied. Yes, all the slopes and elevation changes make it hard but everything is out in front of you and there are no tricky holes where you hit a good shot and end up someplace terrible. The course is lush and beautiful with flowers and trees winding around and over rolling hills.

We were fortunate to get greens that had been punched a couple of weeks ago but the grass had already grown into the holes. That and the light sanding lead to medium slow greens that were a bit bumpy but nobody lost there putt or chip off the green and in the end I assume strokes were saved with the slower greens. The rough is very sticky and the fairway grass will slow your ball down faster than most - plus elevation - so the course plays longer than it's yardage, but the fairway grass it great to hit from.

Compared to the other private courses offered up - this one is a steal at it's price and I would recommend anyone to give it a try when they see a chance.

Played Mission Viejo CC today with the SCGA outing and was pleasantly surprised when running into Wendy and Perry it was so nice to see them. I played with Chris from my Los Verdes Mens Club and 2 other very nice guys named John and Jim. It started out a little cool and windy but warmed up nicely. After a few swings and chips off we went. We teed off at number 16 which by the way the course is very difficult to navigate so signage anywhere and it seemed like blind leading the blind, however we found our starting point. We started on a par 3 and we all played the white tees. Carts had a very nice gps system and music speakers as well. The tee boxes were mostly level and divots were mostly filled in, fairways were recently mowed in fact the maintenance staff was mowing on some of the fairways we were on. Fairways were very nice to hit from and for the most part very generous. If you missed the fairways rough was tough not sure how to describe it but it was sticky and thick and as my partner called it a “ tough tossed salad”. I was in a few traps and the sand was nice and compact and you could hear the thump from the sand. Greens were recently punched but I didn’t think it made too much of a difference because I thought they rolled fine mostly because I made most of my putts. After the turn I was pleasantly surprised that the club provided us with lunch, the choice was hamburgers or chicken breast, salad, fruit, chips, cookies, brownies and soft drinks and bottled water. I thought the back side was a little tougher than the front and it is very hilly in some places. Overall, I had a great day with lots of nice people and a very nice course and if you get a chance to play it, I would definitely recommend it..

Got the chance to play here on 3/9 with my Boss during the member guest tournament. I was very excited to finally get to play here after driving by it so many times over the years. Arrived about 1 hour before the shotgun start they had a table set up right inside the gates to take your bags and load them to the lined up carts. The staff was very friendly from the cart barn guys to the staff in the clubhouse. Driving range is a little awkward with tennis courts in the landing area just left of the range and not a large enough net to protect those tennis weirdos also they didn't have a lot of stations open for a 120 person shotgun. They had a nice bunker area for chipping and a decent sized putting green. The carts were stocked well with water and a interactive GPS + Bluetooth Speakers. The course was in good shape for this time of the year all of the grass was green and there was very few bare spots anywhere. Tee boxes were a 8/10 with full coverage and 5 boxes to choose from all of them had a nice wood border around them to separate the rough. Fairways were cut short but didn't provide a ton of roll out. Rough had good coverage and not very thick but it was my favorite grass Kikuyu! however it was well maintained and actually nice to play from. For the sand traps there is a general complaint from the 3 members I played with that they are inconsistent and for the 2 traps i was in I agree. The Fairway trap I played from had the perfect amount of sand but the greenside trap I was in was very firm but half of the bunker looks like they had turned the sand and I happened to land in the non turned area. On to the greens these were some of the most difficult pin locations I have seen in a while normally that's not a bad thing but with the greens running at a 12 on the stimp and no flat puts anywhere to be found it made for a difficult day on the greens. I had my fair share of down hill puts that were nearly impossibly to stop near the hole and while that shouldn't be a big deal there was a small issue with the Poa grass trying to bloom and it was not consistent. A slow trickling putt would bounce back and fourth on a few of the greens when it hit these patches. The members were not to excited bye this but it was only affected by slow trickling putts. I really enjoyed the layout here at MVCC there are a handful of dog leg lefts and a handful or dog leg rights! towering trees block you from cutting corners too much. The par threes are entertaining ranging from 150-200 yards with three of them being downhill. I highly recommend playing here if you get the chance as the layout is flat out entertaining.

Played Mission Impossible yesterday. A friend of a friend is a member and got us out. Guest rate is a little steep, but gladly pay it for this track. Very fun layout, lots of hills, doglegs, water, trees, etc. Just about everything you want. Teed off at 1pm and finished 18 in the pitch dark.

Teeboxes were very nice. Level with great coverage. No complaints here, 9/10

Fairways were cut dow fairly short and had good coverage. A few divots unfilled and not completely lush and green, but never had any issues all day and I only missed one of them by to be in a fairway bunker by about 5 ft inside. 8/10

All the bunkers were just fine, found one greenside bunker and it was fluffy on top for about an inch and a half, but then firm under that. No problems. 8/10

Greens were just fine. They held shots very well and putted fairly smooth. A few bumps because it was late in the day, but that's to be expected. They weren't perfect, as they had a mixture of grasses growing through them. Had a few patches of lime green stuff mixed in with the dark green. They were diabolical fast downhill and the cups were cut in very difficult positions. I had 42putts!! ouch. Overall I'd give the greens a 7/10. Not the best part of the course right now.

I love this course, I think it's my third time playing it. I would easily be a member. Great practice facilities and a lovely clubhouse and locker room. Different sets of tees make for an ever changing view of the course and the greens are very difficult and often very narrow in the landing areas. Get out there if you can get the chance.

A little late on this review, but played here on 7/24/2019. Course was in fantastic shape following a recent US amateur qualifier. The greens were in near perfect shape, fast and smooth. Fairways were full and ball sat up great. Bunkers had great sand in them. Really love the challenge of the layout here, they have some brutal par 3s. Would love to come back out soon.

Played here 2/22/16 through SCGA Member Outing / Casual Day. I won't do a commercial for SCGA, but for those that have played through SCGA in the past via these outings, my experience has always been positive, Well run and managed, good group of players and opportunity to play courses not usually available to general public. Well done.

First time here. Bought yardage book in Pro Shop before I played, and I recommend getting one. No GPS, so unless you are playing with a member, having the book is critical. Course requires shaping shots throughout. I counted 6 right to left tee shots, and 5 left to right. 3 of the par 3's are elevated and straight, so really only 4 tee shots with a straight away approach from the tee.. Also, I counted 10 elevated greens, so tough to see the bottom of the pin from fairway. Difficult green complexes with plenty of slope, (subtle and some severe at the same time). Most greens are also well protected with big, deep bunkers. Very tough all the way around.

Conditions:
Greens were firm and fast. Tough to hold even high short irons. As mentioned above, as first time out, lot of difficulty reading and judging speed. Tough pin placements throughout the day made for exasperating day on the greens. But in great shape.

Fairways were nearly perfect. I believe they are kikuya, but cut nice and short, which makes for a great surface. Nice cushion under the ball. Just wish I could have hit more fairways on this day.

Bunkers were also excellent. Fairway bunkers were perfect. Not too deep, and made for fairway like lies with firm base underneath. Greenside had plenty of soft fluffy sand. Excellent.

The par 3 tee boxes were a little chewed up, but all boxes were level and had good coverage.

As stated on a previous review, 5 freeway noise is a little disruptive on a few holes, mostly on front 9, but this is a well conditioned, scenic and very challenging course. Highly recommend if you have a chance to play it.
