Played 5/25 with a 8:41 tee time we got out about 5 minutes late. We waited a bit on the par threes put still finished right at 4 hours.
Course is in its usual prime condition. Fairways,rough, bunkers in great shape. I was not in a bunker but some of them looked to have new white sand.
The greens were smooth and running quick. They held good shots very well.
The staff as usual were friendly and helpfull.

Played Fri may 25th, had a 722 tee time but apparently it didn't get in the books, desk knew us and got us out between groups, great service, was told by the starter that the greens were rolled this morning, so we decided not to shoot for the pins and play short and the ball would release, definitely the smart move, greens were fast, rolled very nice. As always tee boxes and fairways were great shape, I have complained about the traps before but they were really nice, probably the best I have seen them here. POP was good at 3.55 4 of us walking.

Tee boxes were in good shape, level with good coverage and a little firm. Fairways were in good shape, cut tight with a lot of roll out, semi-lush with nice lies. Rough was in nice shape, not to long but healthy with some grab to it. Was in two fairway bunkers both of which were semi firm. Greens were in great shape rolling medium speed , firm and mostly smooth. Overall course is in real good shape.

Played in the guru outing with Nick, Mike, and Gus. Had a great round in excellent condition.

It’s hard to add much more praise to the course after the reviews left for the outing but I will add that overall it was a pleasure to play from driving range to tee to green. The practice greens were running at the same speed as the course. The greens on the course were fast and firm which were a challenge of their own.

All around the conditions and service were impressive. Can’t wait to play there again.

Played The Goose Tuesday afternoon with the GK Gurus, teeing off about 1:45pm with JGK, larryq2001 and breangolf for a fun afternoon on a pretty good weather day, albeit with a steady west-to-east wind that both helped and hurt at times. Great to see these guys bomb the ball from the blues, while I played the whites, which were in great condition and were barely used on the day.

In short, course conditions were excellent all-way around, and highly recommend playing right now.

White tees were cut short, and were very level. Only issue was to be able to push a tee down enough into the dirt a few times!

As for the firmness of the rest of the course, let me just say that I LOVED the firm fairways, aprons and greens! As a short-hitter, my drives got plenty of roll, maybe 50 yards+ on some holes. On a handful of mis-hits from the fairways, the ball still rolled out enough so that I didn’t lose too much position from the distance of a well-hit shot – probably lost just two clubs at worst.

The one fairway I missed all day, ended up in the right fairway bunker in the middle of the 10th hole fairway. The wind helped and hurt on the same drive! The sand was a little looser than I’d prefer, but got out OK and squeaked out a par. Found the massive greenside bunker left of #17 green, and the sand was perfect, with a nice soft layer with about 1” depth to firm sand. Still, managed to murder the ball from 100ft away. Got a very lucky bounce, and somehow, it popped out of the trap and not too far off the green.

As reported by others, the greens were very firm. I did see light ball divot damage and in contrast to most others, I thought the greens were mostly a medium-fast past pace, based on my recent experiences at Black Gold and The Crossings. The ball would easily run past the hole on medium-range and any downhill putts if not careful. But, did have a number of 4-foot putts where a firmer stroke was ideal to hold the lines. They rolled very true, but we were all fooled by mis-reads a time or two...or, was it the wind?

After the round, in addition to discussion about the great day and very good course conditions, there was some debate about if the blue tees were placed beyond the normal blue tee markers. Well, according to the information at a California Amateur tournament website, they were indeed on 7/18 holes. They were longer on #s 3, 4, 8, 10, 14, 15 and 17. The tournament blue tees for the day played to about 6839 yards, v. 6556 yards normally. The course rating was 72.4 v. 71.0 and slope was 129 v. 126. So, be sure to make the adjustment when you post your scores! :)

So, you weren’t crazy to think the blue tees played longer than normal, though the jury may be out on if you were crazy to play them ;-)

Finally, I really love the practice facility here. Got in enough short-game chipping/pitching practice to make a modest difference in the round. Have previously made the trip from Huntington Beach to spend a few hours practicing my short-game, including the sand bunker left of the tees. Highly recommend right now!

As for the golf course, we followed a Cal Am qualifier and let me tell you, you either had your “A” game or you had no game taking it on. All the pins were positioned near false fronts and/or false side fronts. You could not short side yourself with an approach miss and expect to have any reasonable chance of getting up and down. The greens were dialed in firm so watching a pitch shot or long putt release past the hole was very common. I did NOT bring my “A” or even “B” game so The Goose did some damage. However I delighted in the challenge and love this layout so I’ll take this round on the chin.

Playing conditions were great. Albeit more dry and firm then my previous rounds there. Greens ran fast, very firm and smooth. Fairways mostly lush, thin in some spots and firm. Rough, about 2 to 4 inches, mostly lush, and at times tough to hit from. Bunkers, found a bunch of them greenside, good quality sand and well maintained. Fairway bunkers, mostly firm, some needing more attention, but in good shape. Tee boxes, mostly level, lush and in good shape. Quick Pace of Play. Finished in under 4 ½ hours.

It’s an excellent pure golf experience. Starting with the practice facilities, some of the best around. Beautiful large practice putting green that simulates the golf course greens very well. Big lush grass driving range. Dedicated chipping area and bunkers. The staff is super friendly with a small clubhouse/restaurant with fast service. We rode today but it’s a great golf course to walk which you don’t find that often anymore. Interesting challenging layout which can be characterized as providing an easy bogey/difficult par. I can’t recall ever having anything less than a great golf course experience here. Highly Recommended.

Played yesterday in the outing too and agree with what everyone has said thus far. I just wanted to add there have been some new tee boxes since I was last here. #3 moved back about 30 yards. #4 looks like they brought is down some and open up the area around it a bit (although the tees were not back there when we played). Lastly #17, park your cart and take a hike back. Its about 40 yards back making it about a 570 yard par 5 which usually plays into a wind, my goodness. It was a tiny tee box before but they've redone the tee area so there should be more places they can put these markers.

Tee boxes were great, par 3s had a little more wear and tear.

Fairways are great to hit from and the rough did have some bite to them.

Greens were firm. Rarely saw any ball marks and I remember Nick hitting a moon ball on 12 about 10 feet from the pin only to have it release off the back of the green and we couldn't find where his ball land. Even though there were firm I don't think the speed was unrealistic. They rolled pretty good for me despite the couple of 3 putts I had but those were misreads on my part.

Found 2 bunkers. I was in the fairway bunker on 8 and it was too firm for me. The greenside one on 9 was fine, had plenty of sand to barely get it over the lip.

I always think this course plays more difficult than the rating but always always always forget this is a par 71. If you've looking for a birdie on the final 3 holes it would be a challenge. 16 is a long par 3, 17 is a par 5 into the wind, and 18 well enough has been said about that hole. Finally made a par on 18 so now I can die a happy man. I'm willing to make the drive up to play this course and I'm never disappointed and look forward to coming back again. Thanks to Johnny for organizing, the course for hosting and my playing partners for putting up with me.

Played The Goose with GK Guru’s leef2020, breangolf and the host johnnygk. It was also on the same day of the Calif. State Amateur qualifier so we had to expect very nice conditions. They were but much more difficult course. Played the blues which I normally do but it played much longer especially with relatively strong winds. Despite it all, it was still a lot of fun and finished in just over 4 hours.

Tee boxes were manicured but hard. Fairways were in great shape even though many of the lies I found were tight. Was in a couple of bunkers and they were in great condition. The greens were not real fast but were rolling nicely. Have seen them much faster here. They were hard however and on some holes it was best to hit it short and run it on to the green.

Highly recommend playing here. Pace of play is rarely an issue here as it always seems to move well. Another great GK Guru outing and thanks to Johnny so setting it up. Also thanks to Ross Fisher for hosting us. Customer service was great but its always great out here.

I played here about two weeks ago and the fairways were cut shorter and were drier this time. I really like this track and encourage everyone to give it a try. One of the best conditioned courses in So Cal.
