Played Green River Golf Club Saturday as part of the GK Cup season 4 Final. Great time and always a blast teeing it up GK’ers. Congrats to Tobster…check out some videos on the Community page. This was the second time for me playing Green River and I enjoyed it again. Straight forward layout that is not too tough nor easy. Lots trees but not constricting off the tee. Many chances to recover from the trees on poor hit drives but challenging greenside from the rough. Conditions were overall very good. Greens rolled mostly smooth at around a 9 to 10 speed pace. They held shots well and were moderately undulating. The fairways were lush with only a few thin areas. The rough was only present greenside but it’s a kikuya/bermuda blend that grabbed any poor swings so you need to be precise. Bunkers had mostly firm sand. Tee boxes lush with little divot damage. Pace of play was under 5 hours for an afternoon weekend Saturday round which really impressed me. In general, considering the low cost to play Green River, its definitely a great value. Posted a few photos. Recommended.

Played at noon on Saturday ahead of the GK Cup finals. Customer service is kept to a minimal. Golf shop staff and starter, along with 1 drink cart and a snack shack on the front. You grab an available cart, load, and go. Decent practice chipping area. Putting green appeared to have been scalped, causing damage to more than half the green. The remaining part was running faster than the greens on the course. I didn't see any water stations on the course, and no coolers on the cart. I imagine it gets warm during the summer, so plan ahead.

Course was in pretty good conditions. Fairways were lush with little amount of thin or damage spots. Greens were in great condition. Few unrepaired ball marks, but rolled medium/fast and true. Tee boxes showed the course gets a lot of play, but it looked like they move them daily. The rough looked "natural," like they only water and cut it. It could be lush and thick then hard pan. I was in 2 bunkers, both were crusty on top and wet just underneath the top.

Overall, I liked the course. Very straightforward with no blind shots or hidden hazards. The fairways are wider than they appear in the pictures and the wind plays a huge part. I normally play in the desert, so seeing the trees move, but not feeling any breeze messed with me a little. $39 with cart seemed reasonable. I wouldn't go out of my way to play it, but if I lived in the area I would play it often.

Played at 12:10 yesterday in the middle group of the GK Cup 4 final entourage. The course was much improved from the last time I played it (although it has been a decade) and was better than I expected from some reviews. A marshal told me they had a new greenskeeper. The fairways were generally lush with a few spots less so. The rough was of decent length and was a factor although there were some bare dry areas around the edge of the course. The tee boxes were okay with some having a hook lie if you were not careful. The greens were pretty good. There were some bumps out there but they were generally true and medium fast. They held well to approach shots. The sand traps could have used more sand. I was able to get my club through under the ball but not by much. Our pace of play was about 4:45, which was quicker than I expected considering the tee time. Nice restaurant, bar and pro shop. The staff was friendly and professional. I would come back.

Good times today with fellow GK members at the GK Cup IV final. This was my first time playing here, and I was happy to play this interesting course. We were first of three groups out. paying $39 for greens fees, cart, and range balls. Strong winds out of the west made for some challenging holes. The trees can be an issue if you don't drive the ball straight. The practice putting green was scalped, but the on-course greens were in good shape: medium fast, lush, and soft without a lot of ball marks. You could see the greens were verticut recently. It's hard to say if it affected putts, but because I did see some bumpiness, I will say that it was a factor. Fairways were lush. Rough was a mix of lush grass, some of it mowed nice, some a little longer and deep, and some of it was dirt if you got too far off the fairways. Pace of play was a little on the slow side at just under five hours.

Played Sunday 06/10/2013 at approx 12:30pm. POP was right about 4.25 hours, not bad for a Sunday. Played with the wife (Tobster) and fellow Gker bnick13.

Fairways - very nice, minimal bad spots
Bunkers - bad, very bad....where is the sand people?
Greens - bumpy...somewhat slow and just tricky to guess what the ball was going to do.

Wind - yikes!!!! too much wind in the afternoon starting at about hole #12


I have a love/hate relationship with this course....not sure it suites my game that well, but am sure I will be back. If you can get on the course during the weekend for under $40 it is a good value.

Course is in nice condition, just stay out of the bunkers or be prepared to add at least 2 strokes to your score. Nothing but hard dirt and no way to use the proper sand method, you have to try and punch it out.

Green river is a decent track. It's not a difficult layout at all, but the wind was very strong today. The wind knocked a few pins over, and it blew my hat off my head several times. The greens are in good shape. They rolled slow but true. Fairways are ok, rough is nonexistent, and the tee boxes are ok. The best part of the round was the lady in the proshop. She's SMOKIN HOT! Lol!
