out visiting my son in Palm Springs.Decided to play OC what a disappointment.Played this course a few times over the years I have been in Palm Springs.Fairways were terrible.Some traps had no rakes others had foot prints all over them aand they are the ones that had rakes.Seems no one knows how to repair ball marks on the greens.As for the greens don't know when they mowed them last never seen grass that high .For all of you who like this course maybe there is a time when its in prime condition but not at this time.Won't be back anytime soon!

Late review, my sister was visiting from out of town and OQ one of two rounds we played last week, this one on 2/22. It was a wild, cold day with strong winds and a mid-round shower, but we were prepared, layered and had rain gear. The couple we were paired with, not so much, and they bolted when the rain came on the 11th hole. Overall conditions were pretty good. No teeing issues, fairways in consistently good winter condition, rough varied from grass to wild areas but the green parts cut down a bit from last time I was here when it was really punishing. Bunkers here can be a problem but the ones I visited were in good shape with soft sand. Greens had some texture to them but seemed to run true at a quick but not too quick pace that was appropriate for the conditions. The only negatives were that the driving range was in need of a trim and they were out of cookies :-(. I admit I love this course. Recommended.

Played this today for the first time. It's such a unique and beautiful course cut directly into old oak quarry. I love how they use the quarry as a backdrop for many holes and the use of water deep below the cliffs. The tee boxes were level and well maintained. The fairways we're on the dead side, but everything 100 yards in was well groomed and green. The greens were rolling at 11 and in near perfect condition. I usually shoot 100 lately and surprised myself by breaking 100 for the first time in a while with a 96. I had expected to shoot poorly due to the difficulty, but the course allowed me to make decisions that played into my strengths. This isn't a grip it and rip it course, many holes challenge you to hit a long iron off the tee and for me at least think about where I wanted to put my approach shots. I can't believe this course is under $100.

Joined GKer t8fish for a GK Cup 18 match on Thursday, 11/18/21, scheduled for 1130am. Course recently came out of maintenance and is visually attractive from a distance. The tee sheet was busy, then we started 30 minutes late and ground into a 5-hour round, with no visible attempt by the course to manage pace. Course conditions contributed to the slow play with the potential for lost balls and difficult recoveries. Overall, the course is damp and soft – damp, grabby rough eats up offline shots and is a bear to recover from; greens are pretty soft and receptive and most rolled just fine at medium+ speed. Traps that had not been refurbished were hard-packed – fine for fairway bunkers, tough luck greenside. We agreed to play lift/smooth/place, which helped. I only saw rakes out along the refurbished bunkers. I was in 1 such – the front bunker on the downhill par-3 #12 (old #10). Got a funky bounce onto the face of the bunker, which I found to have new, very soft, shifting sand. It was almost impossible just to get up the face to the ball, much less get solid footing to play a shot. It will be some time before this new sand can settle and provide a consistent playing surface. So good news/bad news on the bunker refurbishing. Fairways were generally fine and not much changed from previous conditions – most have adequate but tight turf that rolls out okay and lets the ball sit well. Most tees were pretty bushy and needed cutting; only a couple were sloping (we played White). Nice interactive GPS but more often than not the hole location was wrong today, and in some cases even the front/back distances looked to be badly off – check your distances! Cart paths need a lot of TLC. Still no water jugs out there and no cart girl – there’s a snack stand after hole #11. OQ is one of my favorites but the current course conditions make it a challenging play. We were paired with a father/son duo, and the old guy was definitely on the wrong golf course. He couldn’t hit the ball more than 100 yards, and was almost immobile, and he struggled all day with shots from the heavy rough, walking on the slopes of the holes, and just getting to and from the cart. This guy needed Oak Flat, not Oak Quarry. Always recommended.

Got out for a GK match with Dconnally Thursday. Tee'd off a half hour late on a busy day, paired with an elderly father and middle-aged son. Conditions overall were pretty nice. Teeing grounds were consistently level with suitable coverage. Fairways were green and well covered. I don't recall any brown or thin areas. The rough was tough — lush and usually demanding some kind of wedge or punch shot to get back to the fairway for an opportunity to resume your round from a better place. I thought the groomed areas around the green offered very nice opportunities for pitching/chipping. From my experience, the bunkers were the biggest surprise even though a mixed bag. Hard with crusty or simply missing sand has long been the norm here and an accepted trade-off for the rest of the course. But on this day, a lot of green side bunkers had abundant new sand. Not all, as I was also in one that was old-style firmer and a fairway bunker that was more like a compacted waste area. The greens were in good shape, rolling mostly true at a nice quick speed that wasn't overly spicy. Teeing off at noon, it ended up being a five hour pace and we were among the last few groups to get 18 done as others were driving in from around the course. Minor issues were that the carts were nice and had GPS, but sometimes seemed to be working off an incorrect pin location. There are no longer any monuments or yardage makers to be found and as one who prefers to pace off yardages, I missed having the option. But you have to take a cart there and they have GPS so it is what it is and me being fussy. One also has to be very careful about no-go areas that kill your cart. Some are obvious and marked, but I found myself stuck at a crawl in areas I would assume were fair game to be driving in/through. Generally keep to the paths and fairways and enter rough and collateral areas gingerly so as to not find your cart momentum shut down. The gents we played with were pleasant, the service efficient (delayed start not withstanding), and the current playing sequence of the holes is a logical improvement. I always love the opportunity to play OQ and I don't get there often, so I appreciated it and recommend its current condition highly. Thanks to Dave for setting it up.

Got out yesterday, Nov 9 with an 8:12 am tee time. Course is/was still CPO so the round took a little over 4 hours, but there was no waiting for our group.

Tee boxes were a mixed bag, some were very lush, bordering on thick, but some were the traditional tee box length.

Fairways were nice and cushy and provided a good base to hit off, pretty much had a perfect line if you found the fairway.

Greens were a little thicker than usual for Oak Quarry and thus rolled a little slower and didn't appear to have as much break as one would think.

Sand traps are still the unfortunate weak spot of this course: hard and lack sand. Some were even covered up/emptied out and had large rubber tiles in them. One of my playing partners was in one like that and we treated is as GUR.

The rough was extremely penal today and it didn't look like it had been cut in quite some time, likely due to the recent overseeding. It was at least a 2 club difference if you were able to advance it.

All in all, course was in great shape following the recent closure and CPO didn't really impact my enjoyment of the day (plus the round was discounted from it's usual price, so that is always good). Would/will definitely return here.

Played with the GK Cup group on Sunday 10/17. It had been 3 years since my last visit and my first time playing under the revised routing (starting on the former 17th hole). Even with the upcoming maintenance (punching plus overseed) I thought the course was in average to above average shape. Fairways were good, slightly on the firm side but well within expectations for the time of year. I've certainly played plenty of courses in mid fall that have been MUCH firmer and tougher to deal with that aren't expecting major maintenance so that was a very nice surprise. Greens were receptive and a bit bumpy but nothing that shouldn't be expected from late in the day Poa. Tee boxes were a bit thin and will certainly like the upcoming overseeding. Bunkers were... tough. I noticed a number of bunkers (especially greenside on #16) that appeared to have plenty of sand, but my experiences on hole #4 were certainly the opposite.
The course has always had an exceptional routing and I think starting on the old #17 is an improvement. Having a few swings under your belt before reaching the short par 4 third gives a better flow to that front 9. I rate Oak Quarry right up there with Goose Creek and Oak Valley as the best courses in the Inland Empire and while it may not have the conditioning of Goose or the championship level clout of OV, Oak Quarry is probably the most fun of the three.

Out to OQ to accompany the championship match for GK Cup 17– love OQ under all circumstances. Even pre-maintenance the course hole variety is fun and challenging with the gusty winds we had. Greens were very receptive and fairway/rough lies were fine. Greens were showing some spike marks by noon but easily tapped down prior to putting, and they rolled very nicely (and consistently). Good interactive GPS with Shark Experience available; GPS shows pin location. Not in a bunker but comments from playing partners indicated a thin playing layer a little tough to get through/under. Thanks to OQ for hosting our match play final. Always recommended.

Joined the Gk'ers for a fun filled day on Sunday 10/17. It had been a while since I had been able to play out at the Quarry and the course was just as fun as I remembered. The course was carved out of an abandoned quarry and the designers had quite the imagination when creating the layout. The course has a great selection of holes and it never gets boring. Rolling elevations with well protected greens make for a tough track where accuracy is key.

The conditions were better than expected seeing's how they were ready to punch the greens as soon as we were done with the hole. We were told a head of time that they had stopped watering the course 5 days prior to us arriving but it was still in great shape. The fairways had good coverage and were firm and fast. I had great lies all day when I was in the fairway. Rough was also dry and quick which made it more important to keep it in the fairway because balls would roll through the rough and into the bushes. Sand traps were 50/50 depending on which one you hit. I was in one trap on 16 (originally 14) that had a ton of soft sand which was like walking on a beach. The other trap I was in didn't have a lot of sand and could use some TLC. Looks like they are selectively picking sand traps to renovate one at a time. Greens were actually in much better shape than expected they were soft yet fast. The amount of play in the morning definitely showed as it was starting to get bumpy by the time we came around. If I could pick any down side it would've been the tee boxes, they were scrappy and didn't have a ton of grass. however they are reseeding those during the maintenance period so it wont be an issue.

The staff was super nice even though there were about 30 minuets behind due to a few large groups going off. POP was very slow at 5.5hrs but we still had fun. Not sure why the driving range was closed but that was a bummer especially because it was the GK cup final and the competitors couldn't warm up. Carts are very nice and had the shark experience gps system which is a nice touch. This is definitely a course you need to play just to experience the layout out and test your luck on the signature par 3 16th.
