Got out yesterday, Nov 9 with an 8:12 am tee time. Course is/was still CPO so the round took a little over 4 hours, but there was no waiting for our group.

Tee boxes were a mixed bag, some were very lush, bordering on thick, but some were the traditional tee box length.

Fairways were nice and cushy and provided a good base to hit off, pretty much had a perfect line if you found the fairway.

Greens were a little thicker than usual for Oak Quarry and thus rolled a little slower and didn't appear to have as much break as one would think.

Sand traps are still the unfortunate weak spot of this course: hard and lack sand. Some were even covered up/emptied out and had large rubber tiles in them. One of my playing partners was in one like that and we treated is as GUR.

The rough was extremely penal today and it didn't look like it had been cut in quite some time, likely due to the recent overseeding. It was at least a 2 club difference if you were able to advance it.

All in all, course was in great shape following the recent closure and CPO didn't really impact my enjoyment of the day (plus the round was discounted from it's usual price, so that is always good). Would/will definitely return here.

Played with the GK Cup group on Sunday 10/17. It had been 3 years since my last visit and my first time playing under the revised routing (starting on the former 17th hole). Even with the upcoming maintenance (punching plus overseed) I thought the course was in average to above average shape. Fairways were good, slightly on the firm side but well within expectations for the time of year. I've certainly played plenty of courses in mid fall that have been MUCH firmer and tougher to deal with that aren't expecting major maintenance so that was a very nice surprise. Greens were receptive and a bit bumpy but nothing that shouldn't be expected from late in the day Poa. Tee boxes were a bit thin and will certainly like the upcoming overseeding. Bunkers were... tough. I noticed a number of bunkers (especially greenside on #16) that appeared to have plenty of sand, but my experiences on hole #4 were certainly the opposite.
The course has always had an exceptional routing and I think starting on the old #17 is an improvement. Having a few swings under your belt before reaching the short par 4 third gives a better flow to that front 9. I rate Oak Quarry right up there with Goose Creek and Oak Valley as the best courses in the Inland Empire and while it may not have the conditioning of Goose or the championship level clout of OV, Oak Quarry is probably the most fun of the three.

Out to OQ to accompany the championship match for GK Cup 17– love OQ under all circumstances. Even pre-maintenance the course hole variety is fun and challenging with the gusty winds we had. Greens were very receptive and fairway/rough lies were fine. Greens were showing some spike marks by noon but easily tapped down prior to putting, and they rolled very nicely (and consistently). Good interactive GPS with Shark Experience available; GPS shows pin location. Not in a bunker but comments from playing partners indicated a thin playing layer a little tough to get through/under. Thanks to OQ for hosting our match play final. Always recommended.

Joined the Gk'ers for a fun filled day on Sunday 10/17. It had been a while since I had been able to play out at the Quarry and the course was just as fun as I remembered. The course was carved out of an abandoned quarry and the designers had quite the imagination when creating the layout. The course has a great selection of holes and it never gets boring. Rolling elevations with well protected greens make for a tough track where accuracy is key.

The conditions were better than expected seeing's how they were ready to punch the greens as soon as we were done with the hole. We were told a head of time that they had stopped watering the course 5 days prior to us arriving but it was still in great shape. The fairways had good coverage and were firm and fast. I had great lies all day when I was in the fairway. Rough was also dry and quick which made it more important to keep it in the fairway because balls would roll through the rough and into the bushes. Sand traps were 50/50 depending on which one you hit. I was in one trap on 16 (originally 14) that had a ton of soft sand which was like walking on a beach. The other trap I was in didn't have a lot of sand and could use some TLC. Looks like they are selectively picking sand traps to renovate one at a time. Greens were actually in much better shape than expected they were soft yet fast. The amount of play in the morning definitely showed as it was starting to get bumpy by the time we came around. If I could pick any down side it would've been the tee boxes, they were scrappy and didn't have a ton of grass. however they are reseeding those during the maintenance period so it wont be an issue.

The staff was super nice even though there were about 30 minuets behind due to a few large groups going off. POP was very slow at 5.5hrs but we still had fun. Not sure why the driving range was closed but that was a bummer especially because it was the GK cup final and the competitors couldn't warm up. Carts are very nice and had the shark experience gps system which is a nice touch. This is definitely a course you need to play just to experience the layout out and test your luck on the signature par 3 16th.

Oak Quarry is always a treat, even when it's in its final days before reseeding and overall course maintenance. I was expecting a much more desolate looking landscape out there ahead of all the work being done this week, but instead found a course that was still in pretty fine shape and far more lush and playable than I was expecting. Many of us assumed the greens would be rock hard and super difficult to play, but instead they ran really nice and were far more spongey and receptive than anticipated. I found plenty of good lies in the fairways (of course there were some thin ones as well, especially in the rough), and was surprised to see so many good and well-stocked bunkers throughout the course. To put it succinctly - even on a supposed 'bad day,' Oak Quarry still provided one of the finer golf experiences you're going to find in SoCal. The new routing continues to prove its value with a wonderful opening hole and a truly challenging and fitting closing hole now that they've pushed the former 1st hole to 3rd. It absolutely makes the course a better journey throughout the day, and of course the routing and uniqueness of all the holes is truly something every golfer should experience. It was a fairly long day due to a bit of a late start and some slow-moving groups ahead of us, but when you're in an arena like this one, it does take the edge off waiting somewhat. I just think that Oak Quarry remains one of the better options in SoCal for a truly unique outing and you simply won't be disappointed in a pure golf sense ever. When the course is back in all its glory very soon, you owe it to yourself to go. And then go back again.

Played in the GK Cup Final group yesterday, teeing off around 12.

This was my first time playing Oak Quarry and I'm a huge fan. Echoing the other reviews, it wouldn't be fair to rate this course considering the timing of playing, right before major maintenance.

That being said, I really liked the course under the conditions. I can only imagine how amazing this place will be once overseeding and aerification settle in and the course is more on the lush side, but the firm and fast conditions made for some serious fun. Even in the current state I thought the fairways provided great surfaces and the greens rolled at a decent speed and held shots.

I will say that the layout here is one of the best public layouts I've played in SoCal. There's no shortage of variety of holes, most with multiple options for each shot (you can be as aggressive as you want and there were bail out areas), the scenery is amazing as it's definitely a photogenic track.

Every staff member I met was super friendly and major thanks to the guy who opened up the bar for us after the round so we could have a beer and celebrate Mark's win :)

I can't wait to come back and play this course after the maintenance and get the full experience. Really had a blast and would highly recommend Oak Quarry.

Played Oak Quarry in the GK Cup Finals today with an 11:56 tee time. Started probably 20-30 minutes late with two large groups out in front of our three groups. Stoked to have a Titleist booth with a rep out by the practice putting green, giving out two-ball sleeves of whichever two varieties of balls you wanted! The course management had warned us the course hadn’t been watered for a bit and would be very dry today, with fall maintenance literally taking place immediately behind our group today. Well, their warnings made today’s nice conditions seem fantastic.

Greens were medium fast (faster than they looked), a bit bumpy and usually held full shots quite well. Nowhere near as dry and crusty as I expected. Fairways were mostly good to great, providing really nice lies with just enough cushion under the ball. The rough was mostly thin and not very penal. Tee boxes were probably the most dried out, but with a tee, not a big deal. Bunkers were inconsistent, some filled with tons of sand and others very thin. With the course closing for a couple weeks as soon as we finished today, conditions were very nice.

Huge thanks to Oak Quarry for having us out and Johnny for organizing the Finals during a challenging fall maintenance season! I always love Oak Quarry and today only solidified that feeling further. Such a beautiful, fantastic course. I’d love to get back out there after they overseed and the greens heal from aeration. (Greens were absolutely covered in thick sand when we finished; pretty cool and interesting to be out there to see how they do it all.)

Rode the Blues (6600/71.8/131) in slightly over 5H. Played with Steve, Andrew and Larry. Excellent group, we had a good time. A little breezy and sunny, very nice golf weather. Thanks to John for coordinating and Oak Quarry for having the GK Cup Final crowd out. Considering they were closing the course for fall maintanence right behind the GK Final group, conditions were better than expected. Tees were thin and dry getting ready for over seeding. Fairways mostly decent, almost always had a decent lie with a decent cushion underneath. Rough dried out. Could be anything from low and not penal, to hardpan to some areas still lush and thick. Traps much improved since last visit with nice quality sand. Large greens were pretty good considering they had probably not been mowed in 2 days as they dried out for aerification. Still rolling medium to medium fast, they held irons well. Many ball marks and irons held well. Customer service very good from all encountered. Plush carts with the Shark Experience GPS. No drink cart, but snack stand open on the course. Good, all grass range was closed today. They did have a Titleist fitting day, thanks to Brian for some new Titleist! Very good and playable design that I like better after every round. Highly recommended.
