Played the Champions course on 12/18. Course is in great shape. Played the Legends course a year ago, I like this layout a little more. Fairways were great, lush. Rough was good also very lush. Greens were in good shape, rolling smooth and fast. Definitely recommend playing the courses right now, they're in great shape.

2nd round of 2 on 11/10. This place has a great replay rate of $25, and you can play the course you haven't played yet. Teed off at 10:30am and got matched up with 2 older gentlemen who wanted to play from the Whites, no problem for us even though we usually do Blues. We got stuck behind this slow group and the round ended up taking over 5 hours. The most annoying part was that these guys were playing from the Blacks and could barely get off the tee. On 1 part 3, everyone in their group lost balls on the tee shot and 1 guy lost 4 balls and finally shanked the fifth into play, 70yds from the green. They also refused to let us through with at least 2 empty holes in front of them.

The fairways were mostly lush, but for some reason had a good amount of bald/damaged areas. I was lucky enough to not get into any. The fairway rough ares weren't well kept at all. The best part of the course were the greens. They were in great shape, smooth, and rolled true. I loved them.

Little weekend getaway to Morongo and played Champions course with the wife on Sunday (11/11) . Never played here before, but we pre-booked on GolfNow and got a great deal.

Tee'd off at 11:15am and the sun was out, but it was very cold and windy. Temperature was in the high 50's. The course wasn't crowded at all, most people probably were wiser to stay home.

The tee boxes were in good shape, only one hole I found some difficulty finding level ground. The fairways were in good shape, however there were definitely some fairways with work going on. The rough was lush, and thick...no picnic getting out of if your ball is buried in it. For some reason I found a lot of sand traps today and they were hit and miss. Some very nice sand, some absolute mud. The greens were in great shape, and extreme fast with some nasty undulations.

Champions is a nice track, challenging enough for us, but not overwhelming. There are a lot of forced carries over barrancas and its easy to go OB on mi sh$t s. My only complaint was since there was no GPS it was difficult to know distance. They didn't have pole markers, and the plaque markers they had were hard to find, and they had few other indicators. The scorecard had yardage on it, but you would've needed a magnifying glass to read it. Since we never played here before, we couldn't get a true feel of how far out we truly were, especially with the wind being as nasty as it was.

All in all, definitely worth what we paid. Nice clubhouse, good grub, and not too far from Ventura County.

Played on 11/3 at 1:15pm. Conditions were very nice with some thin spots in the fairway and greens. Tee boxes were nice and level. Layout is challenging. Many risk-reward situations. Caught a slew of bad breaks which left a bad taste in my mouth, but I'm sure it's thrilling when the ball rolls the other way too. Because of this, I liked the Legends course better though.

Again, conditions, service, weather, and everything else were great. $25 for replay is very decent and totally worth the drive out. Will definitely make it back.

Both of us had a great day from 10:00, Monday Oct 15.
Again, friendly staff, great prac-fac, and TWO superb designs, make returning to Morongo an easy decision.

Again, friendly staff, great prac-fac, and TWO superb designs, make returning to Morongo an easy decision.
On Champs course, back nine, abundant fairway maintenance occurring, with some targeted coring, aeration, and re-sodding, after overseeding. The rough was thick and lush, up to 3 inches, and we lost a couple of balls in it.
Greens were verticut yesterday; sanded today, but still soft and mostly smooth. Should be fully ready by end October.
Some tees were also being worked on.
Really, worth a look.

Lots to love here at Morongo. Teed off around 0900, just 2 of us, between fours. Still finished in under 4 hours (quiet day). Entire course in very good condition; what a layout-LOTS of fun. Nice staff, good prac-fac, well equipped clubhouse with TWO courses make the returns an easy decision.
Only a couple of tees (blue) not totally level, healing from divots. All fairways lush and fairly quick. Rough of varying lengths, so don't miss by much; all was lush. Green-side sand is very good; fairway bunkers have thin sand with pebbles. Greens speed medium to fast, mostly smooth, holding extremely well and impressively designed. Rough around all greens lush and nicely manicured. Sufficient rest stops and water stations. Only saw a drinks cart once.

Like to thank Shebylo & Shazza for joining me for a relaxing round on a challenging golf course, felt we played the appropriate tees (BLUE). I told Shebylo that the CHAMPIONS course will have a little more bite to it than the other layout (Legends) which they played a short time ago.

As promised, I decided to make the long drive to see how the upgrades and improvements to the bunkers would look like. A few months ago, the bunkers were in AWFUL condition and this was at the time qualifying was taken place for a few PGA tour sponsored events. The bunkers were so bad, a "discussion" was created and it prompted a response from the Superintendent!

I am applauding @Green2t and his entire staff for a job well done!!! (Read my post under) " Magnificent Improvement" posted on July 10th.

This layout will be holding a Mini-Pro event the week of July 15th, it's a 4 day event. Might be tough getting a tee time, highly recommend playing a twi-light round to take advantage of some very good conditions.

BUNKERS: WOW!!! totally a night & day transformation has taken place and it goes beyond just ADDING sand to the bunkers. The staff took their time, promised it would happen but we as GKer's needed to be patient through the process. A date was posted, I'm here to tell you THE STAFF GOT IT RIGHT! perfect sand conditions, no guesswork needed. KUDOS...

Greens: I believe the staff spend some time doing Poa Annua reduction treatments to the surfaces. The day we played, greens were slower than I know what they are capable of being. Soft conditions, we tried to fix the ball marks that we saw left behind "lazy" players. Be patient, the greens on the LEGENDS course were attended to first I believe. I thought I read a top dressing was put down some time ago?

Most approach shots held the greens for the most part, I was using a 3 piece ball which helps. Lots of undulations, can have some really tough hole locations, local knowledge helps where you need to place your approach shots. Don't get me wrong, birdies are available.

Fairways: Most of the course was in good condition, no real complaints for this time of the year. Very playable lies just some areas were a little dry and some were wet in the fairway. Btw, the fairways are wider than they look on some holes.

Tee boxes: Not looking too bad, I consider average wearing with maybe a few uneven levels...just move one club length back.

LAYOUT: What a fun, challenging, deceptive layout!

Makes you think you have to play it to the left side of the fairway just past the fairway bunker. From there your approach shot is semi-blind because your blocked by the reeds and cannot see the elevated green. YOU actually can play a draw up the right side (wind is from the right) and land on the other side of the hazard short of the bunkers.

Each hole is unique, not one hole looks like any other on this layout even the par 3's are different. What a great 18th finishing hole! RISK/REWARD, water is in play on the tee shot yet it doesn't look like it.

Practice Range: ALL grass locations, excellent chipping area with a practice bunker too.
VERY large putting green which is just like what you'll see on the course.

Clubhouse & Staff: Friendly, cart person came around close to 5 times...must have been not as crowded on the course. VERY nice clubhouse which overlooks #18 green. I highly recommend having a GK PLAY day if possible since there are TWO 18 hole layouts.

What a layout!!!! Having played Legends 2 weeks ago, this was out first go at Champions; NOT the last indeed. July 9, 2012, 3 ball, 1100 tee time.

In one word, spectacular.
I enjoyed the flow of the course design. Only a couple of holes that allow you to 'catch your breath'. But we found ourselves anxious to see the next tee shot, the next approach shot, what the greens complex looks like. A LOT of fun.
Tees: blue- fair-good; some unevenness from many divots.
Fairways: good; some lush areas, some dry areas.
Rough: good-great; depending whether it is fairway or green side.
Sand: great
Greens: good; incredible designs, lots of ball marks (not after we finished), a little bumpy with medium speed and holding ok.
Drinks cart came by 4 times. Very nice staff throughout; open for breakfast 0700!!

Played here 7/1. Overall the course is in much better shape once Morongo took over from the SCGA. Both courses are really nice, if you are willing to make the drive you could get some decent rates here. Challenging due to the desert conditions and having to stay in the fairways but fair. Highly recommended.
