I played with the gurus, but I was in the 2nd group with Johnny, Art, and Jerry. The hillsides were lush and covered with wildflowers so things were looking good. The course has some extreme elevation changes and long stretches between holes.

With the 5-year drought courses have been switching to drought tolerant grass that don't look as lush as courses where it, well, rains, so we should probably judge lushness from that perspective. With that in mind, I'd say the course was lush. The bunkers were in pretty good shape, there was nary a bad lie in the fairway, unless you get unlucky and land in a divot. The greens were lush by any standard. They were a little slow but seemed to track well, and generally held shots, except for Johnny's 2nd shot into the par 5 15th, which left him short-sided with a nasty little shot out of thick rough. The greens are confounding but fair, so expect at least a few three putts, unless your iron game is so good you can stick it close every time.

Overall, one of the better tracks in the area, and if you play it regularly they have a pretty decent frequent players card.

Had a great time with the GK Gurus at the Crossings on a mild sunny afternoon with only light breezes on Wednesday, 4/5/17. Thanks to Johnny for setting this up, and to GKers weber2323 and gary00 for an enjoyable round. Also had an opportunity to meet GKers grantar2 and jmo1pro2 for the first time, and to see Broomy after a long interval. Check-in was easy but they lost my towel. Range balls provided; range was on good mats, as gary00 noted (but I’ve never seen the tees on grass here). Basic comfortable carts (no ball washer, cooler but no ice or water), and a very nice interactive TKV GPS system that shows other carts in your hitting zone. Many sprinkler heads also marked.

Greens were very good – accepted shots and rolled at medium-fast speeds, although they were a little bumpy in the afternoon. We saw scattered old ballmarks on each green. Fairways looked semi-dormant but lies were very good, although we saw many unfilled divots on each hole. Rough was cut short and very playable. I wasn’t in a bunker, but playing partners looked to have OK conditions. Tees were level and in good shape, with par-3s a little chopped up. The course provides sand bottles at each par-3 tee and on shorter par-4s where you are more likely to hit an iron (but some were empty).

We burned through the divot mix canisters on our cart quickly with all the unfilled divots we found. A rack of divot mix canisters at the 8th hole parking area (for layups on the short par-4) were all empty. There’s a refill rack for divot mix on the 10th tee. I’ve always had a good experience at the Crossings and recommend the course.

4/5 with gurus Mike(from the tips) and David (playing whites with me)-nice carts and interactive GPS--like Mike reported DR tight mats but the kind you can stick a tee in. Large putting green I think was a little faster than on the course and did not have all the slope and contour waiting to humble the aspiring golfer.
Fairways were mowed fairly close but still gave good cushion and good lies overall. Unlike Mike the rough I found was generally on the thickish side and even being only 1-2 inches did a good job of impeding forward momentum and keeping the ball on the hill side adding to the challenge of making pure contact. Yes around the green it was deeper and so the ball either sank to the roots or got suspended requiring thought as well as execution--it was hard for me to execute a low pitch as the ball often came out high looking pretty in the air only to land just in front of the up slope and roll away and extra 20-30 feet--and those that landed on the plateau tended to run well past the pin.
Tees good lush and leve-- par 3s were a little beat up with filled and unfilled divots.
Bunkers have good sand and plenty of it--fairway ones were firm and playable and the left greenside bunker on 9 had good sand.
Greens are large some a good 3 club difference front to back with extreme contours and slope that is affected by the prevailing topography as well as the layout of the green. Some were a little bumpy but quite decent overall--held well struck approach shots but were quite the challenge on chips and pitches.
The course is scenic spread out over the landscape bordered by ESA playing as laterals--quite a bit of elevation change--seemed like more holes uphill AND into the wind.
Customer service is excellent from club drop off to check in--had good conversations with player assistant Ron and starter Larry.
POP 4 1/2 with some waiting on the 4 some ahead.

Played in the Guru outing yesterday with David and Gary. Always a pleasure playing with these gentlemen. Check in was smooth and the guys in the shop were very helpful telling me where everything was.

Range was mats today. I saw another couple guys come down only to realize you need to pay at the shop which is kind of a hike. There are also 2 small chipping greens and a pretty big putting green.

Greens were a little too soft, wiggly and slow for my taste. I'd like them to firm up a bit and then I think they could hold a putts line a little better. You certainly need to play here a couple times to know where to hit them on the green. Lots of slopes out here and some places where I don't think they should even consider putting the pin.

Fairways are decent. Not lush green as you would expect. It was a little yellow out there but hitting off them were just fine. Your going to hit a variety of clubs but the wind and elevation make shots challenging.

Rough around the fairways were non existent and very patchy. Rough around the greens was a little thicker in spots but certainly playable.

I was in one fairway bunker and it was super firm. Greenside bunkers looked to be just fine with good sand.

Met up with some southern (Cali) family members for a Wednesday round ... picked the Crossings due to the excellent GK reviews and a good $60 online rate ... I let them know that, too. Would have really enjoyed teeing up with Johnny and the gang next week but my work schedule has been hectic and just taking off yesterday was challenging. Gentlemen, you'll have fun here, guaranteed. This course is quite the adventure. Anyway, the recent reviews are all accurate. The course is an up-and-down, meandering layout thru the Carlsbad hills and a challenge to boot. Most fairways are lined with blue ESA markers so you need to be on your game or you'll give up a few strokes (and balls) to the open, natural surroundings which, by the way, are still full of yellow and blue flowers. Really quite beautiful. Fairways are more of a greenish- tan color which contrasts the dark green of the rough and tee boxes. The landing areas can be generous or quite narrow, it varies from hole to hole. A mixture of long and short par 5's & par 3's, a bit of risk/reward so long hitters can go for it and only lose a stroke and not distance if the ball goes into the ESA. I hit more layup shots on this course than I have this entire year to date (yep, no cajones). For sure, a course I'll visit again when I don't mind the drive. Oh, the greens: they were pure. Really enjoyed putting these babies but a little course knowledge would've helped (no birdies for me). Bunkers professionally conditioned. Staff, food, marshals etc. all top notch ... the service is what you'd expect from courses which charge twice the green fee. Really recommend this jewel. And look online for deals.

I played here on March 12 with a tee time at 7:30. The fog was so thick we could not see the fairway across the ravine on the first hole from the tee box, nor the flight of the ball, so we had to guess where our ball landed. Only one of the four balls was found. We also could not see the green, let alone the flag, from much more than 100 yards out, so it was a real guessing game. It wasn't until the 8th hole that the fog lifted and our frustration ended.

The head pro kindly returned my call afterward and explained that they do not do fog delays. So my advice is to check the weather if you have an early tee time and decide if you want to deal with it.

On the basis of my favourable impression playing in the last GKGuru Review outing here 4-5 months ago, decided to join the Crossings Club. Felt it was a good deal, as you get enough free rounds, discounted rounds, member rates at Black Gold and other discounts, along with a dozen ChromeSofts with their logo on them. A very good deal, imho. Was able to convince Larry (larryq2001), to join me at a discounted $41 (using one of the member perks) rate this past Thursday at 1:03pm, as he mentioned in his review.

Very warm greeting by the gents at the bag drop and pro shop to get things started. Lady at the driving range gave me some tees as I was warming up to stick in the artificial turf and also gave me a ride back to the putting green while Larry finished out a bucket.

Starter was friendly and pointed out that the carts were 'brand new' and we were the first one driving them. Nice, racing blue color, very comfy seats, cooler filled with ice and a sharp screen for the GPS. They were very quiet, smooth ride, went fast, stopped well, but could use a little more torque going uphill. GPS was good, but they are working out some kinks in the software, as the holes stopped advancing automatically about the 11th hole and challenging to get back to the hole graphics. Hopefully they can sort this out/provide some better instructions soon.

As for the course, tee boxes were all green and level. I played the whites. Most with great views, including some with views of the Pacific. Ball always sat up nicely in the lush green fairways, shortish grass, and got some good roll. Elevation changes helped of course going downhill, hurt on the few uphill tee shots. Hit all fairways but one, and the rough I did see a few times wasn't too penal, maybe up to 1/2 club at times. Was in a bunker and the sand was a good softness on the top layer, with firm footing.

Greens were aerated about 3-4 weeks earlier and with the exception of a few areas on maybe two greens, they were healed and no sand to deal with. Greens were not cut very close, and were firm. They looked faster than they were; about medium-speed on the day and mostly smooth and true. As typical, too many unrepaired pitch marks. Lots of nice undulations to make putting a challenge. There were a good number of 'tough' pin placements I thought on the day.

Saw the cart girl 3-4 times along with the marshall. At one point, I thought he was going to ask us to speed it up (we were a hole behind, the other twosome was all over the place, believe u me), but instead, he just inquired 'if everything was working OK' and he offered assistance with the GPS unit. POP was about 4:30hrs, with no one holding us up after the first hole. Larry and I tried to pull them along...

A very enjoyable round on a sunny and breezy day with Larry, it's always great to see someone with such a nice, smooth swing hit the ball long, straight, make some putts and score well! He's a nice gentleman, too.

**Be sure to watch out for cross-traffic between the 11/12/13 holes, otherwise someone might unexpectedly run into you, and you don't want to be liable for any damage to the shiny new carts. :^O

Highly recommend this course. Scenic and a good, challenging layout. Nice condition. Some 'strategery' is necessary.

GK offers a coupon here. Am looking forward to playing this course a few more times over the next month and then enjoy Black Gold again once it heals. To those playing here on April 5th, ENJOY!

Was invited to played Crossings this past week by fellow GK’er Leef2020 who had a guest voucher for $41. Great deal and was very nice of Lee to invite me. As a twosome, we hooked up with a couple of singles. Nice guys but very slow. We fell behind by about a hole and a half and tried to pick it up a bit. Ended up finishing just under 4:30. They just got new golf carts and we were one of the first to use them. Very nice and very comfortable. The GPS is new and state of the art as well and we could have used a lesson on how to use it. The course is hilly. You stand up on the first tee and its downhill left to right and looks rather daunting. Then come to find the rest of the course is the same way :-) A lot of elevation changes. We caught the afternoon wind which wasn’t real strong but did affect club selection. Fairways were very nice and in good shape. Downhill, downwind got lots of roll out. Fairways were also pretty generous even though sometimes it doesn’t look too wide standing on the tee box. A couple of fairways were narrow but those fairways were short in length so you didn’t need to hit driver. Regardless, you can’t be spraying drives here otherwise you end up unplayable as the twosome we played with soon found out. There is distance getting between the green and the next tee box. The drive to get from 11 green to the 12 tee box seemingly took a couple of minutes. Cannot even imagine how one could walk this course. Greens were recovering from aerification and were in good shape. Heavy poa in the afternoon sun however slowed em’ up a bit but they still rolled true. For a change I was only in one bunker and it was in nice condition. I played well this day but I still found this course challenging. It was nice to have someone with you who has played here before which really helped. Playing without course knowledge here would make a difference. Particularly on #18 which has a blind approach shot. All in all, a great, enjoyable day.

I wanted to get back out before they began their maintenance on 2/27/17. Plus, my groupon expired on 3/9/17. The course is in wonderful condition! Fairways green and lush, greens were quick, but not unfair, very receptive as well. Both bunkers I found were nicely groomed and had plenty of sand. No issues with the rough or tee boxes. All that said, I have only myself to blame for posting one of the worst scores I've shot in probably a decade. Simply put - I sucked today !

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Pace of play was good, under 3 hours. (Second group out) Again, everything was great - except me. BUT, if you can walk off the course and still say you enjoyed yourself, despite how you played, that speaks volumes!
