I played on Monday for my birthday round. The cost was just a $25 cart fee which was more than fair for such a wonderful course. I was greeted at bag drop by 3 friendly gentlemen who directed me to the pro shop (in the large, very beautiful clubhouse) to check in and told me my bag would be waiting for me on a cart downstairs. I spent some time on the practice green and chipping area while waiting to tee off. There’s a nice ocean view from there.

The course is interesting. It’s very spread out with some long rides between holes. There are lots of big elevation changes, blind shots, and forced carries. The carts have detailed GPS which was very helpful. As far as the conditions go- fantastic! The fairways were completely lush, with no divots or wet spots. We were following the lawnmowers on the front so there were some piles of grass clippings but it was so nice to hit from freshly trimmed/edged (and all level) tee boxes. The greens were smooth, medium speed with hardly any marks. We did have the opportunity to chat with and thank 2 of the workers for the beautiful conditions. Unbelievably, I was not in any bunkers but the sand looked great. There is some frequent noise from the Palomar Airport next to the course but it wasn’t a distraction. POP was 4.25 hours. This course is now at the top of my list of local courses I want to play again

I played the Crossings on Saturday 9/24 it was 18 days removed from punching the greens and overally the course is in very good shape. The greens were a little sandy and bumpy from the recent maintenance but they were receptive to shots and I did see a few putts go in. The fairways are in very good shape with nice green turf with a few hints of brown. The ruff was inconsistent and the sand traps were in good shape with fluffy sand. The greens should be really nice in about a week or two.

I enjoy playing a course with the maintenance showing yellow it was a very fast round I think we finished just around 4 hours with only waiting on 2 holes.

Our cart did die heading up the hill to 18 so we had to walk hole 18. This was not that bad but if it happened a few holes earlier could have put a real hamper on the round.

Played here on 8/20 and this will just be a brief update on the last review as most of what was written then still applies now. NOTE: as indicated on GK, there will be some aeration work done at the beginning of September. Tee-boxes: Overall good and I don't remember a single hole in which they were either spectacular or terrible. Mixed bag in terms of turf softness with some being a littler harder than average and only one where the recent work was terribly evident. Nice set of tee box options. Fairways: Good for the driest year on record so far. Never found myself in an unplayable lie. Not the most visually appealing fairways but all is forgiven when you have good areas to hit from. Rough: Pretty good and penal in some holes, though was stands out on this course are the ESA areas and natural landscape that often serves as the "extreme rough". The thicker grass though was evident and a poor shot was certainly penalized. Bunkers: Was only in one all day (thankfully) and it was playable. The sand on a scale of 1 being beach sand and 10 being fluffy pearly white Augusta sand was a 6 and allowed for good shots. Greens: Mixed bag but overall good. Lots of undulation on some greens and complexes large enough that you always had good roll. Lots of divots but greens free of leaves, rocks and other impediments. ETC: Carts with GPS were a plus (I believe its not actually possible to walk this course and frankly why would you with the elevation and difficult terrain). Staff was helpful and friendly. Starter wasn't the chattiest guy today but performed his duties well. Marshalls were all over the course yet sadly round was 4.5 hours with lots of pressure from both ends. Parking lot is ample and they offer to take your clubs down for you which is nice. Course layout is fun with a good mix of holes, especially the back 9. A good deal warrants a visit for anyone within 50 miles.

Played the Crossings on Sunday, 8/7/16. I agree with the previous reviews of the course. It is in very good shape currently. We teed off at 9:55 am and were done right around 2pm which is a very fast round for this course considering the driving time in between tees that really can't be sped up.

The fairways were fast and allowed alot of run sometimes into the rough which is inconsistent. Sometimes your ball will be buried, sometimes your ball will sit up for a flyer, sometimes it will roll over a heavy traffic part and give you a nice shot. The tiered greens make three puts happen often but the greens roll true with minimal divot damage.

We saw the cart person a few times but I am too cheap to buy anything.

Despite the rough roulette I would strongly recommend this course and I will be going back.

Played here today and took advantage of their free birthday round offer. It's easily the best birthday deal in SoCal! Booked a 10:57 time as a single, which is the earliest they had available when I called yesterday. They had a small tournament in the morning and were pretty booked up for a Sunday morning. I was paired with another single and a twosome, and we had a good time. Things moved along nicely and we were finished in a 4:15 pace. The course was in very good shape, and probably the lushest/softest I've ever seen it. A few par-3 tee boxes were a bit chewed up, but they were all generally nice. The fairways were good and provided fluffy lies throughout the course. The rough was very challenging and more of a factor than any other time I've played here. It is not long, but it is a tangly, thick and brutal mix of 3-4 grasses in most places (pretty sure I saw at least bermuda, kikuyu, rye and poa out there). It is very lush with ample coverage, yet it's kind of clumpy. The ball really settles in between the various tufts of different grasses and it is rather difficult to judge shots. The bunkers were a bit crusty, but playable. The greens were very soft and rolling at medium speeds. Probably the slowest I've experienced here, but at least rolling smooth and true. I always enjoy myself here. It's a challenging course with some of the toughest green complexes around. Good mix of short/target holes and some longer ones, too, so I end up using just about every club in my bag. Definitely worth a visit, and I look forward to my birthday rounds here!

Took advantage of the free birthday round out here today with a 9:54 tee time. Paired with another single, a real friendly guy who is a member. The starter got us out a little early and we breezed around at a nice pace, passing the foursome in front of us at the turn and finishing in 4:00. The guy I played with said this was one of the fastest rounds he's ever played there. Service was very good: Check-in went smoothly, starter was really nice, on-course assistants on a couple holes, and saw the beverage cart 2-3 times.

Course conditions are also very good. Greens are very nice, smooth, soft, accepting of shots and about medium speed. Most fairways are nice, but a few are thin and Cart Path Only, including No. 8, which looks like it was recently aerated. Overall good fairway coverage, though. Rough varies in depth and difficulty all over the course; I found some sticky stuff around greens a couple times, so shots that hit the green are definitely rewarded. I was in one or two bunkers and they were good. Tee boxes were maybe the low point, but still very acceptable and good.

I had played here once previously and while I really love the layout and aesthetics of the course, I find it very difficult and intimidating. Seems like there is trouble everywhere and then the greens are very difficult to read, and often have severe undulations. These aren't complaints; just saying this course is a true challenge and I'd love to play well there sometime, but so far I've accumulated 81 putts over the span of two rounds. It was surprisingly hot and muggy for being so close to the ocean, but a nice breeze helped that most of the day. All in all, a very fun day at an unbeatable price of free on your birthday.

I played today at 2:51. The course is in terrific shape. Very few bare spots in the fairways, the greens and rough were more lush than any course I've played in So Cal in a long, long time. Since most courses don't have much rough to speak of, due to the drought, I had difficulty hitting out of it from lack of practice. The greens were soft and very receptive.

This is a thinking players course. It's not long, so proper placement off the tee with woods and irons can lead to better scoring. Unfortunately I didn't know where to hit it until afterward, but next time... Service is terrific from the pro shop, to the starter, to the marshal, to the cart guys. Just a first class operation.

The course is very scenic with great views and no houses. The layout is a little odd in spots with looong distances between holes, so don't even think about trying to walk. Walking would add an hour to the round, and all the people in carts behind you would be cursing you.

I can't wait to play it again and get my revenge.

Played the Crossings on 7/10/16 went off at 9:09 and finished around 2:15 which was a five hour round. Played with my dad and we were grouped with another two some which included a lady. The nice thing about the Crossings is that there are numerous tee boxes but the down side to that is the driving from tee box to tee box in order to tee off increases the round time.

The course is in very good shape right now. The greens are rolling very nice with minimal bumps and only a few spots of ball mark damage. The fairways are very fast and often lead to a ball rolling though them and into the rough. The rough is very inconsistent. On some spots the ruff is very tall and creates a problem to hit out off other spots the ruff has dried up and there you can make decent contact. The tee boxes on the par 3s showed a little bit of divot damage.

The overall course setup is what I like. Fairly wide fairways and large greens allow for errors. While forced carries and green undulations to provide the real challenge. With a few short par fours mixed in to induce bad decisions/reward smart players.

The short game area is nice with a chipping area and a putting area that includes the undulations you will encounter on the course. The driving range was mats only that day but I have been there when the grass section was open. The cart person came around a few times and the people in the pro shop and entrance were very helpful.

Rough was minimal, but plenty enough to make you not want to be in it. Which is kind of tough with how narrow they cut the fairways. With the slopes it's easy to hit through the fairways twists & turns.
Greens in very good shape. Were a little bumpy from the days foot traffic, but rolled at a decent speed of medium and were receptive. Some seemed slower. Talk about some diabolical greens ! I forgot how much contour most of these have.
Tees & Traps were in great shape. The weather was perfect and for $45 it's difficult to find better conditions.
