Yesterday, October 7th I played Camarillo Sterling Hills Golf Club with three of my buddies. We got a Golf Now special for 28 with cart at 10:22.

The golf course was a busy but still we had a great time. Customer service was great and lets tee off a little early.

This is my first time that I played Sterling Hills since last year. The fairs ways had a few dry spots and must of the fairways were close and didn't allow to drive in them. It seems as they are working on them.

The Sand Traps need sand as I hit from a few fairway sand traps the club bounce back as there weren't much sand.

Some of the tees do need a little TLC. Some of the tees had the grass tall and if you didn't had tall tees to hit your shot. You must definitely will be in trouble.

The greens were a good shape. There were lots of debits as golfers weren't fixing them. But the ball was rolling very well.

Played 9-12-18 on a GN deal for $21 including cart, teeing off mid afternoon and finishing in about 4 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were just okay semi-level with some bare thin areas and some areas that were too long. Fairways were in bad shape, many bare and thin areas and others areas that were wet and a little long. Rough really doesn't exist here, thin and bare. Was not in any bunkers but they looked thin and hard. Greens are the best part of the course, they are mostly lush but very soft and slow with some bumps. Overall course is in bad shape and not really worth playing.

Have not played here in years. Staff is excellent, clubhouse great. The greens are fantastic. Lush, fair and smooth. The rest of the course is really regrettable.

Have not played here in years. Staff is excellent, clubhouse great. The greens are fantastic. Lush, fair and smooth. The rest of the course is really regrettable.
Tee to green: Some teeboxes are thin and uneven, others have a top layer of grass so thick that you can't tee the ball up high enough, even with really long tees. There seems to be no telling what you're gonna get hole to hole.
Fairways. In their defense, they appear to be trying to re-seed some areas, but these are among the worst fairways I have played on. On many occasions, a drive straight down the middle lands you on hard pan or really thin or bumpy lies. Signs asked us to keep the carts in the rough on some holes, but it is usually impossible to tell rough from fairway. As I said, I've not played here in several years, so I don't know if they had some kind of major damage, or if the course was abandoned for a while, but the fairways are a patchwork of different grasses of varying coverage when there is grass. Very different than I remember it. Bunkers seemed to be either great and fluffy, or a thin layer of sand over a hard base. Yet the greens were exceptionally good. Luckily, we were just out playing a casual round for fun, so $50 with a cart, balls and a really good burger seems a reasonable enough deal. Not somewhere I'd go on a business outing.

Greens were soft and on the slower side with some being bumpy. although they provide all inclusive pricing your golf money is better spent at other local courses until they get this course in much better shape.

Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly lush but you do have to search a little for a level stance. Fairways were mostly lush but there some thin dry spots and bare areas in some of them. The rough was mostly cut down low but there some areas that were longer and more lush and some bare spots. Was in a couple of fairway bunkers that had nice firm sand. Greens were still recovering from being punched so they were a little bumpy and rolling a little slow.

First time out this morning 4/30/2018 at Sterling Hills in 4 years. My buddy had a 15 dollar special with a cart at 11:30am. Joined by buddies Mack, Brian and RGM2525 riding the Blue Tees. POP was 4 hrs 5 minutes--we let 3 separate groups play through that were playing speed golf--not putting out, etc. Weather was overcast with temps in the low 60's and a slight 1 club breeze--nice golf weather. I guess they have new ownership--very friendly starter in the pro-shop. They have mats for a smaller range and a nice sized putting green.

Kind of a funky layout where you only have 3 par 5's and don't play your second par 5 until #16. Some throw away holes on the front--don't care for the front nine much but I think the back nine here is good with some good character holes.

The fairways were lush in spots and other spots had bare areas. It was a crapshoot whether you would have a lush or thin lie. Decent coverage in most fairways. Some areas were roped off where they did not want carts going. Overall fairway rating 6/10.

The greens were still recovering from a punch I believe a month ago. They rolled fairly bumpy for our group--not a lot of putts made. The green complexes themselves are not very deep and are surrounded by some nice bunker complexes. You have to hit some good irons to these greens to score. They held full shots well and some of our chips had some nice run out. Due to the maintenance a month ago would rate them currently a 6.5/10. Once they are cut and rolled I am sure they will be rolling better.

The tees were fairly green and lush and most of them need to be leveled. A player can find a level stance but you must hunt for it. Rating 6.5/10.

Was in 3 greenside bunkers on 3, 4 and 18 that all contained some nice raked firmer sand. Rated 6.5/10.

The rough was scattered anywhere from lushness, to hardpan to some different types of grass. Hard to rate but would give it a 6/10.

Overall I would recommend this course if you can land a deal online or maybe for their twilight rate during the week but not much more than that.

I believe they are going through new ownership. They are doing a fantastic job at improving the course. The fairways are looking great! If they keep this up it can definitely be a top course in Ventur... Continue »

If they keep this up it can definitely be a top course in Ventura county. The fairway are getting lush and it’s looking good around the greens. The greens are a tad bit on the slow side. But they at least run smooth. Great course for the $40 morning fee during the week for fee, cart, balls, and lunch. My two complaints.. 1. They need to trim down some trees. There are some trees by tee boxes on 9,10,17 that are in the way from the back tees. 2. They need to add some windshields to their carts. Improvement opportunity - speed up the greens just a tad bit!

Played yesterday mid day. It was a beautiful day about 60 so riding in the cart was a bit chilling since the carts don't have windshields. The course was in great shape though. I had heard it was supposedly in bad shape and read a review on here from last summer saying that as well. However they are under new management and they have obviously turned the course around. Also they're running an incredible promotional special until Apr 15 of $40.38 peak rate including cart and a meal with choice of dish on the menu! I couldn't resist that. I had a chicken sandwich that was great. It's even cheaper after 2pm.

Crushingly disappointing experience at SH today. I really don't understand the previous recent reviews, perhaps something has changed here very recently or we aren't playing the same course.

Crushingly disappointing experience at SH today. I really don't understand the previous recent reviews, perhaps something has changed here very recently or we aren't playing the same course.

This course is in worse condition than the worst muni course you have ever played.

The fairways are weeds. The rough is knee high weeds or hardpan that hasn't seen water in years. The traps are dirt, the tees boxes are watered, but all torn up. The range mats have holes through them, few have tees and the tee mats and the club racks were all strewn about the range like a tornado had just passed through. Ball washers dry, no benches at the tees, trash cans over full. Bright spot? The greens were quite nice.

Once was a great facility and a great course, now for all practical purposes management has abandon this course.

It is sad. Don't do it.
