Ran a really fun Golf Moose / Greenskeeper.org Private Course outing Monday at Los Coyotes CC. Saw a bunch of GKers there, great playing conditions, good weather, excellent service … all smiles. Fantastic staging set up for an outing.

Played with GKers rgm2525, hammer74 and tomokir. Awesome time despite playing terrible. Made a “That’s Golf” crazy downhill breaking birdie putt on #17 to put little Neosporin on my scorecard. LOL.

Conditions cart path only featuring soft, smooth, medium speed greens. Lush, not cut (understandably due wetness) fairways that provide next to no roll but never a thin lie (full lush coverage). Thick sticky 4 to 6 inch rough which was difficult to find you ball in and especially hit from. Well maintained tee boxes and bunkers. Looks like they might be in the middle of a sand replenishing project as some bunkers had fresher, more white sand than others.

I highly recommend Los Coyotes CC as a course to consider to host your outing or become a member.

Also played in the 3/13/23 GolfMoose outing. This is the best I've ever seen Los Coyotes, the rain has helped. Greens were really nice, just stay on the downhill side of the cup. They had some pin placements that made being above the cup really difficult. Rough was really thick in places. Fairways nice. Bunkers quite good. The snails were huge. Highly recommended. Thanks Johnny for setting up another great outing.

Played the Los Coyotes outing on 3/13 got to say hi to Johnny and Ron and played with some really nice people.. We teed off on hole 2 of Lake and then were to rotate to play the Valley 9. As the announcer spoke saying we had 10 minutes left before teeing off he casually mentioned it was cart path only, ugh.. Anyways off we went. I like this course it’s very fair mostly but in light of all the recent rains in So Cal rough was a little high and if you sprayed it that made it tough to find your ball. Tee boxes seemed ok to me, fairways were great and some areas there was standing water so I guess they can justify the CPO. Green side bunkers were nice and all raked and I found the sand easy to play from and I was not in any fairway bunkers. I thought the greens were a little slower than usual maybe they haven’t been cut in a while but that’s just my opinion. Overall I enjoyed my day playing partners were great and even though it took about 5 hours I would love to play there again someday..

Played in the Golf Moose outing today and was paired with Vince (stickboy) Lindsey, and 2 other gentleman but I’m sorry I don’t remember their names. Weather, well let’s just say it was sprinkling when we started on what was a little confusing shot gun start. Our cart said 16 A on the Valley but starter told us to follow group ahead of us so we ended up on 7 Lake which is a par 3 over water. The course is in fantastic shape right now with fairways being somewhat generous and really looking good. As we started to play it stated to rain more and more and after we played 4 holes it was pouring I suggested we go back and wait it out which we did. About 30 minutes later it stopped and we played 2 holes and was pouring again. We are now on the short par 3 with Johnny doing a closet to the pin and Lindsey sticks it to 8’ in the pouring rain. Again we decide to go back to wait it out and by this time people were leaving. Our other 2 guys left while we just waited as there was not going to be a refund or return trip I told Vince what else do you have to do, so we waited. We wait about 45 minutes and the sun starts to come out and we tee up on Lake 1 and proceed to play all 18 holes. The was some standing water but the course drained really well. The bunkers I hit from were really soft from the rain and easy to play from and the greens were firm held shots well and with all the rain were still very quick. The staff here are very friendly and very accommodating and the course is outstanding.
Overall, despite the bad weather a good time was had by our group and if you get the chance to play here I would highly recommend it.

Finally able to post photos and my review of our GK Guru Round/Golf Moose-GK Private Course Preview Round. First off anyone reading this review that is concerned about how the golf course will play tomorrow during the event in the rain, don’t be. It drains and absorbs rain very well. Could we get soaked tomorrow…yes! But it’s a super track in great shape that in the end you’ll be glad you played. Check out the photos I just posted. We’ll be playing the Lake and Valley Nines.

Monday was my first visit to the Los Coyotes Country Club and it came off as a beautiful traditional country club experience with a grand Spanish style clubhouse and mature layout. Large trees border all the holes, forced carries over water on the majority of par 3’s. Small to Large elevated greens with manageable undulations and sloped back to front. Many doglegs and rolling hilly terrain. Some risk/reward par 5's.

The golf course is kept in great shape with emphasis on the greens and fairways. You could tell we played it on a day where the fairways were due to be cut. Even so, mostly lush full coverage that provided little roll yet sit-up lies all day. Tee boxes in good level condition. Rough not to penal but lush. However I bet in the summer that rough gets very full and tough to play from. Especially on the more hilly holes. Bunkers were well-groomed but appear to be due for some fresh sand. I found them overall firm yet consistent.

I don’t normally talk about practice putting greens in my reviews but got to here. There was not a blemish on it as it putted fast and velvet smooth. Very enjoyable.

Highly Recommended.

Played 3-21-22 afternoon with Blake, John, and Mark for a very enjoyable round of golf. Pace of play was very nice finishing in a little under 4 hours with with very little waiting. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level and lush. Fairways were in nice condition, a little long in some areas and some areas that were a little wet, but mostly good lies. Rough was not much of a factor being cut down fairly low, and in decent shape. Was in a couple of greenside bunkers that had a decent amount of sand and nice to hit from. Greens were in really good shape, rolling smooth and fast and playing semi- firm, real fun to putt on. Fun day on a fun course.

Played with Mark, John and Ron yesterday at the Guru outing. Was a beautiful day and a great time and I really appreciate John for putting it together. You can't beat playing on a nice Monday afternoon instead of working. Clubhouse was large and nice, and the one employee I encountered was very kind. Not a big fan of the driving range, but that is more just a reflection of the fact that I can't stand mats anymore. The putting green and chipping area were fantastic, with the putting green being near perfect condition. I found the course conditions to be pretty great: Tees: 7/10 Fairways: 6/10 (they need a cut imo) Rough: 6/10 Bunkers: 7/10 Greens: 8.5/10 And really enjoyed some of the quirkiness of the layout (we played Lakes/Valley I believe with my preference being the Valley nine). There were some tee boxes where the fairways looked intimating but were really just big funnels. Mark and I were talking about how it reminded us of a nicer Candlewood or Rancho Park. Definitely recommended.

Many private courses have been a letdown. You realize the course is private because it couldn't handle public play. It's too tight, too punitive, too limited in facilities to handle more than a few people at a time. Los Coyotes isn't one of them. It could handle the public - maybe the range is too small - but otherwise the course is playable and interesting.

As was said, the practice green was unreal - so smooth and perfect and sneaky fast. The regular greens not as much, but still, two hole locations were on slopes that made any miss from anywhere except below the hole roll off the green. (lame)

Conditions overall were pretty good - described in detail in other reviews. Without any direct complaints, I didn't fall in love with the course. There was something "American Golf" about it that I can't put my finger on. That said, I'm really glad I got to play it and would recommend anyone else give it a try.

As some others have noted the fairways seemed a little long and did not afford much roll out.As Gary mentioned there were several pin placements that were downright brutal! If your putt was short the ball would roll back over 10 feet and off the green. Some of the bunkers I was in could use some sand. As always I had a great a time with my playing partners.Anyone playing on this coming Monday will have a good experience.
