First time on the revised MS layout after they closed the Players Course and combined holes from the two courses (13 from Classic, 5 from Players). Met GKer bnaso for a GK Cup 18 match at noon on Wednesday, 1/12/21 on a mostly sunny, warm day with almost no wind. We went off on time, joined by two younger guys playing the tips, and finished in just under 4.5 hrs. The course is in good shape overall. Greens were very good – pretty firm, holding well-struck shots, and rolling well at medium+ speed. These greens have a lot of subtle slopes and movement around the pins – especially uphill, even short putts need to be firmly struck. Both of us had problems all day choosing lines from short distances around the holes. One new green was built for the new layout – for hole #16, built on the site of the old #1 tee at Players. It’s vastly different than any of the other greens. From the front of the green around the right side and across the back is a shelf-like area the slopes gently to the left. But from the center of the green a severely-sloping funnel-like area extends to the left edge of the green and beyond. Because the green is so new and used almost immediately, it was sodded in, not seeded, and is very dry and hard. The look is different from any of the other greens. Fairway lies were generally good, with an adequate cushion to hit from, with some thin areas. Most fairways showed signs of recent verticutting but we had no problems with lies. Sure wish players would use the refill bottles. Rough was cut low and easily playable. Tees were just OK – many of the White tees had a lot of sand on them. (I played White; Brad played Blue.) I was in 1 greenside bunker (#17) and the base was very firm with just a thin playing layer. The course is working on several bunkers at a time, refurbishing them as players are on the course. We saw bunker work in progress on #4 and #18. Several holes had obviously-new white sand, while bunkers not yet reworked had more brownish sand. I’ve always found pretty solid conditions at MS – too bad they lost half their venue. Large driving range on mats, 2 or 3 putting greens, and a chipping/sand area. No cart girl today, but a snack bar at the turn. The entirety of par-5 Classic hole #18 is just sitting out there – not sure what they plan to do with it. Recommended.

Played today with an early 8am tee time. It was like playing golf in the dark. Fog was so thick it was hard to see the group in front and the green. Luckily we did not hit anyone. Fog lifted about halfway through the front 9. The course is what is expected for a muni-course. Greens are the best part of the course. They rolled true and fast. POP was around 4.5 hours but that was due to the early fog.

Played today with a POP of 4.5 hours. The course is aerating and over-seeding parts of several fairways and the bare spots in the course. The greens are in nice condition, just had to repair some divots that are not being fixed by other golfers. SCGA has not updated the new layout in the golf App. Staff is friendly as usual.

Played yesterday @ in the afternoon. The course routing is a mess. They are playing a combo of the front 9 of the Old Classic and the back 9 is a mix of some holes from Players and some holes from Classic. Customer service was average. Do we really need a starter on this muni? We were not allowed to pay until right before our tee time. You don't want our money???? The green fees were very competitive for an Orange County course. Snack shop was open.

Greens were good shape running at 9. Fairways were good and rough was spotty and all over the place. The traps were a mix bag of hardpan and average bunkers. Tee boxes were unmaintained, shaggy and bumpy. POP was 4.5 hours.

Early morning round at Mile Square. As usual, the course is in pretty good all around condition. Greens rolled well, receptive. Most of the fairways have good coverage, with a few areas needing attention. Same with the rough. Both bunkers I found were raked and had a decent amount of sand.

I don't want to be too critical of the current routing because I understand it is temporary, but playing the last holes felt very "contrived" No flow what so ever. I accept this will be changed, but for now, not so good. Reading reviews, it appears most people preferred the Players course. I always liked the Classic Course. I'll hold off returning until they complete he construction and finish everything. Still, it was as always fun to get back out and play Mile Square.

The walking distance from the 16th to 17th hole is a little trek. Sad to see the Players side not being utilized for the time being as there is no progress being done by the County.

First - conditions are pretty good. Greens are very nice, smooth, medium fast. Fairways in good shape with a rare bad spot. Rough is fine. Tee Boxes are a mess right now, some areas being massively sanded, and for some reason the grounds crew would put the markers right in the sandy area. Luckily, two club lengths would usually get you back to playable grass. In all, no major concerns with the course conditions.

The revised routing is as follows: #1 - #14 on the Classic remain unchanged. Players #10 is now #15 (temporarily a Par 3 though). Players #18 is now #16. You then jump back over to Players #8 and #9 as the new #17 and #18 (these two holes belonged to the Classic course before Players was built anyway). This results in a Par 74 (73 due to #15 being played as a 3).

The routing is a bit of hopscotch on those last 4. It appears that they are building a new #16 coming reverse back over Players #1. That will make it a smooth flow from 14 through 18.

It was sad to see the remnants of the Players course through the fence. I always enjoyed that course just a bit more than the Classic. Classic remains the same general course - a fun track to play.

Haven’t played here in a few months. Played here before they shut down 18 holes with preparations made to put fences up. First off I played here quite a bit before, tee times were booked during covid and walk on was a wait most times. 4 holes used from players course and 14 from classic course. Until they have it all dialed in, I’m not playing here again. Just the fact that they shut down 18 holes to turn it into a park was upsetting enough for me not to want to play here ever again. Miles square park is big enough for a park, now 18 more holes added to this park is too much IMO. This course will be last on my list to pick from. Thanks management for being so greedy and turned a good course into a David baker.
