Played Firecliff for my first time this morning at 6:50 using Forelinx. Paired with three others. The course was very busy, but pace of play was pretty good at 4:20. I played the blue tees. Service and practice facilities are excellent across the board.

Course conditions are near immaculate. The greens are excellent: Smooth, medium fast and accepting of well hit shots. They aren't super soft; I'd say somewhere between soft and firm. Fairways and rough are fantastic, incredibly lush green from edge to edge. The fairways look like carpet, and the rough was also very nice and not too penal, maybe 2 inches deep at most. Tee boxes were great. The bunkers were the only part that wasn't top-notch. They weren't bad at all, but just sort of clumpy and more dirt-like than the premium sand found at high-end resort courses.

I'd always heard that Firecliff was the better of the two courses here, and now that I've played them both I'm not sure if I fully agree. I think they are both outstanding and pretty evenly matched. They are both landscaped beautifully, and my playing partner said that in a few weeks they will look even better when more plants begin to blossom.

Played the Blues (6676/71.7/133) using Forelinx. Matched up with Steve, Mike & Debbie in 4H, 15M. The weather was excellent, clear, around 85, little wind. The tees were mostly lush with the par 3's having alot of divots. One of my all-time favorite driving courses. I find the contrast between the lush green fairways/white sand bunkers and the huge palm trees/mountains provide excellent aim points. And while many of these fairways do not show it from your tee vantage point, this is much more of a grip it n rip it course than 1st impressions would indicate. I say that even with native/desert scape down both sides of most holes and with penalty shots lurking everywhere... because almost all the fairways are generous in width. The over seeded fairways were very lush. Firm with a decent amount of roll. The over seeded rough was usually good to play out of. The ball sat up and playing even longer clubs still a viable option. Nice to chip out of. The traps were nicely maintained with good quality sand. The greens were very good. They putted medium fast, were smooth with few ball marks and were firm. The customer service was exceptional from the attendant when you drive up all the way to the attendants that clean you clubs after the round. Beautiful layout, well above average even by the high standards of the Palm Springs area. Outstanding all around! Drink cart out making the rounds & complementary range balls are included with your round on a very nice practice facility. Really solid course, not tight but at least as difficult as the ratings indicate. Numerous lakes that are very much in play to avoid. Highly recommend this course.

Beautiful layout, well above average even by the high standards of the Palm Springs area. Really solid course, not tight but at least as difficult as the ratings indicate. Native/desert scape down both sides of most holes, so penalty shots are lurking everywhere. However, most fairways are generous in width.

Played here on Monday.I was second out as a single. The group ahead let me play through on the second hole. I was three holes up on them by the turn. I was only using irons that today so i played from the whites. POP under 3 hrs.

As for the course the it is well maintained, the greenskeepers are courteous. I now understand why courses do not let singles out first as it pushes the crew and it makes there work take longer. I found the first nine holes to be rather enjoyable but on the back it just felt as if i was repeating the front. Overallit is a way better course than the mountain and a fair course.

My first time playing this course. Played with Sizpez and another twosome from Mission Viejo. Now this is golf. Conditions here are perfect. Greens were a little slow but rolled very true. Very difficult to stop the ball but if you planned it right you could roll up and cozy up to the hole really nicely. Fairways in great shape. Rough is thick and VERY punishing. Sand in bunkers is hard packed and playable. Pace of play was just under 4 hours in the sun at the heat of the day (around 108*F) This course is tough in spots but just as forgiving in others. You have to really choose your shots well to score low. And not let the heat get to you like it did to me. Hydration is not a problem with the ample water stops and the cart girl (saw her a minimum 5 times during our round). I wish I could have hit the ball further. From the blues there are a lot of forced carries well over 150 yards and not for the faint of ability. One of our playing partners was blistering his drives well past 280 and it certainly makes the course easier to play if you can hit the long ball. Golf doesn't get much better than this. This is an experience I won't soon forget.

Played out here this morning with Ringworld and we had a good time, despite the heat and the challenging Firecliff layout having its way with us. We teed off at 7:10 with another twosome. They space the times out here perfectly, so the group ahead was finishing the par-5 1st as we teed off. We never caught them and the group behind never pushed us, so it was a perfect pace of about 4 hours on a Saturday morning.

The course was in excellent shape, very lush and green throughout with only a few brown spots here and there. The tee boxes were great. The fairways were excellent to play from. The rough, though not long, was extra "sticky" and definitely required your attention to hit a good shot (especially when chipping around the greens). I was in a few bunkers out of the many that are on this course and the sand was consistently good. The greens were firm, yet receptive enough on well-struck shots. They were smooth on putts, but pretty slow. That's pretty typical here in the hotter months so they keep from getting burnt out, but you really have to blast uphill putts to get to the hole. There were a number of really tough pins on the edges of mounds, so putting was tricky all day.

I really love this course. Firecliff is definitely the marquee course at Desert Willow and certainly more long and challenging than Mountain View. This was only my second round on Firecliff (compared to 3 on MV) and I look forward to coming back and playing either course at any opportunity I get. The staff is always great and the courses are fun and very well-conditioned year-round.

Played in 7:30 shotgun Sat 6/6. Slow. windy in the morning, died down early. not too hot. Course in amazing shape. Fairways were amazingly lush. Greens slow... i'd say slow 9, maybe 8 stimp. could not get the ball to the hole. But smooth and true. Bunkers were perfect. Restaurant served great food. not a bad thing to say about the course.

Aeration on all Greens **Drove out from Irvine with a buddy to play our normal midweek round and wanted to avoid all the Aeration of greens ongoing in OC/LA area. **Greens - TERRIBLE! All 18 greens punched and sanded no more than a few days!! =( We had no posting on GK or any listing on the Desert Willow Website of any Major Aeration of either course. No posting, no discounted rate and greens were sanded and lots of holes. **Faiways and Rough - Lush and super green! Very nice. **Tee Boxes - Lush and perfect. **Sand Bunkers - Terrible, no sand at all.....if there were a decent amount it was uneven and many bunkers fairway and green-side were wet and muddy. **Clubhouse and grounds - Amazing, and Top Notch. --- I played Silver Rock 2 weeks ago for the same Rate of $128 and the course conditions including greens were perfect! Should have played that track again.... ~ Rog
