Having lived out of the country for several years, this was the first time I had played in American golf course in a long long time! the last time I played Dos Lagos, may have been the first week or two they were open. It's come a long long way since then! Back in the day, all they had was a trailer and no club house. Definitely a step up from the old days. the course itself was in OK shape, nothing spectacular, the greens were quite nice and very fast, and they got faster throughout the day. very few thin spots, but the fairways were not as lush as I might like them. The rough was long and uneven, not overly punitive, but this is the type of course you want to put the ball down the middle. the pace of play was good, and the value for the money was quite good, so I think I'll be back. Not living in Southern California anymore, I live in Utah, but my friends like this course so, yes I will be back!

I had only played Dos Lagos once before, not too long after it first opened. Even though it has a turbulent review history here on GK, I've been wanting to give it another shot. Found a GN hot deal time this afternoon for just $21 and saw that it had no aeration happening yet, so it was an easy decision. They gave me the option of playing by myself, but I could see there were people out ahead, so I ended up joining a twosome on the first tee. We didn't run into anyone until the 7th tee and then it was slow going after that. Front nine only took about 1.5 hours, compared to 2.5 on the back. Still, a total 4-hour pace not too bad. The course was in decent condition. Didn't always look pretty, but very playable. Some tee boxes really good and some not so great, but I never had a hard time finding a good place to tee it up. Some fairway sections are a little shaggy and others are very tight (semi-dormant bermuda). Though inconsistent, I never had a bad lie. I did notice the hillside holes (starting with the approach on 14 and through the 16th green) they either overseeded those for winter or perhaps they keep a different grass there year-round. That would explain why those holes always look greener and more enticing most times I see the course from the freeway! The rough was not a factor as it's pretty much cut down equal to the fairways. It makes the layout more forgiving, but also makes the sight lines much more awkward. With no real definition between fairway and rough (and a spotty course knowledge), it threw me off a couple times. They do have 150-yard barber poles for aiming, but they don't always look or feel right when standing on the tee. I found a couple of fairway bunkers and they had good enough sand. Wasn't in a greenside one. The greens were relatively soft and receptive, rolling at medium speeds. A little bumpy at times, but mostly pretty true. I enjoyed my day out there because I had a good deal and could look the other way on some of the conditioning flaws. If I paid more, I would have been more critical. Like I said, though, it isn't super pretty or consistent right now, but the playability is fine throughout. There are some fun(ky) short holes here, a few pretty long/tough ones and some that are rather boring. Enjoyable mix of six par-3s, which you don't see often. The course has a couple different personalities. The staff was friendly and we saw the cart girl several times. Drinking water jugs had plenty of water in them to quench the thirst on a warm afternoon.

I played on Tuesday 3/10/15, taking advantage of their birthday offer - free greensfee, with a $15 cart fee required (must print coupon, and show proof of identification). Check-in was easy, and a cold, locally brewed beer on tap made it better! Teed off solo at 10:30 on another Southern California day that makes me wonder what happened to winter. The first two holes were like a dream - no players in front, and none behind. Then I got to the third tee, where 2 threesomes were waiting for the green to clear. A solo player joined me on the fifth tee, and played out the front nine. The rest of the round was very slow, and I joined the threesome in front of me for the final 4 holes. POP ~4 hours and 45 minutes. Cindy was working the drink cart, and she made passes 4 times through the 12th hole.

Played from the blue tees, which in some cases were way back! Tee boxes were in fair to good shape, with some being slightly unlevel, and some par-3 boxes being a little chewed up, but it was easy enough to find a good spot to tee the ball. I did not have to play from any bunkers except the fairway bunker on the final hole, where sand was thin but playable - all other bunkers appeared to have been raked and clean. Rough seemed to be a continuation of the fairways, except just a bit browner, and in places a little muddy. Fairways had good coverage, but were a little thin, and lies were generally good. Dry and thin resulted in long rollouts - on 12th hole, a mid-iron layup shot meant to stop at ~100 yard mark rolled to about 20 yards short of the green. The greens were in very good condition, in that sweet spot between soft and firm, receptive to well hit shots and rolling true at medium to fast speeds. As usual, there were plenty of extra ball marks to fix. Coots had left their droppings on the 18th green, but not the worst that I have seen.

Except for the pace of play, I find this to be an enjoyable layout with reasonably good conditions.

Ok, I realize Dos Logos is what it is but here is my review of the good and bad. Not sure what course Sammy3 played on 3/5 but here are my thoughts for the same day. The good first- BBQ sandwich with chips and coke, 6 dollars. That sums it up!!!!! The bad, let's start at pace of play, tee offed at 10:30, finished the 18th hole at 4:23. Front nine in 3 hours and 30 minutes. 10 min wait on each tee for guys that hit their drives 150 yards then waited for the green to clear each time for their second, which normally traveled possibly 100 yards or so. Funny thing is each member of this group complained about the slow play, REALLY, no comment to them, and shut my mouth. Now let's talk about the worthless Marshall, three times he came up to this group to talk about nothing in particular, in fact was joking with them and never once in clear hearing distance for me asked them to skip a hole or pick up pace, they were roughly a hole and a half behind. Now let's chat about the the cutting crew, 3 times a mower went across the tee as I was addressing the ball or in my down swing. I am not talking about a different tee, my tee box, twice less than 20 yards. Forget that is was the same guy each time, or that my playing partners and I called the clubhouse to report it and had no action taken, the third time was the charm and finally used the gentlemen as target practice. Now let's talk about his co-workers, twice we waited for at least 7 minutes for groundskeeper to move his cart off the path, along with his tools, normally not a big deal except we looked at each other for several seconds before he turned his back and continued working. Course conditions, wow really greens were shaggy, bumpy, several bare spots, and poorly maintained and I use maintained very cautiously! Fairways were dry, with a mixture of bad to this is ridiculous lies. Bunker sand through out the course was less than an inch, showing in many spots brown dirt and clay or even under linings. My playing partners on this day were both senior club members and each of then professed to me several times that they had never seen the course this bad! So there you have it, my score for the day is not important, what is important is the condition of the course, and the staff, OOPS I mean the appearance of a staff. Tee boxes have poor grass and several are very uneven. Oh one more good, I give the cart a an 8 in looks and number of times seen.

Other than that it has sand in the bunkers,(up and down twice) tight lies around the greens and greens were smooth and quick . Round was just over 3 1/2 hours. Other than Goose Creek or Oak Quarry this course is equal in condition to the courses in the area.

Monday Morning tester, I haven't played a morning round in a long time...ouch

Clubhouse remodeled, some beautification being done. Nets only for warmup. For anyone that doesn't know there is a driving range 3 miles south of the course on Temescal Canyon Rd.

Tee boxes have plenty of turf but quite a few with leveling issues. Fairways are thin with larger clumps of grass abundant, but still pretty good lies. Rough was pretty good height
with lots of dormant grass. Greens were as slow as i've seen them, which isn't a bad thing, but a tad bumpy. Bunker sand was near perfect. Pace of play was good, went through 4 groups. 3 hours. Everyone always friendly here.

Another cool thing is every few Sundays a month they have a 9 hole scramble with a 15" Hole. You heard it right 15"! I think its $20. I am on the email list, and heard about it.

Really cold this morning. Using a cart without a windshield only makes it worse. (Should have walked) Greens OK, but several had numerous unrepaired ball marks. Fairways soaked from the recent rains in spots, but playable. No casual water.

Staff was great as usual, friendly and accommodating. Fun course with lots of birdie holes!

Played our monthly tourney Sat 2/7. Our tee times started on time. At 1st it looked like the groups ahead of our tourney would be slow but they played at a decent pace. At times we pushed them and waited a couple of times for them to clear the green. Our POP was 4hr45min, not too bad. The course overall was decent but not prime, green but not lush.

The tee boxes were fairly level, not too beat up, with some thin areas. The fairways were thin in spots, and bare spots here and there. Firm with good roll and not many unfilled divots. with fairways side by side there were only a few holes with rough which is mostly environmental, and allowed to grow at will. The couple of bunkers I was in had decent sand and playable. The greens were firm, at times bumpy, and slow. Lot of poa still visible.

Staff was friendly and helpful, 19th hole was relaxing with good cold beer, some draft pitchers available, and what I would call "Godzilla Dodger Dogs", our 4some split 2 dogs, good taste, but 1/2 was enough for me. Cart gal came around frequently, so did the marshall.

Played yesterday and got out before the Men's group as a twosome. Usually play this course a couple times a year and it was pretty much what I expected. Fairways were OK considering the time of year, rough was decent and sand fair. Greens were a little inconsistent from the front nine to the back nine. An enjoyable round. Its a fun course and the staff is always very friendly. Great starter who keeps things moving without having an attitude.
