Played today with the GK Guru outing. Thanks to Johnny and Oak Quarry for the outing. The course was looking great with stunning views and green grass most everywhere. Upon arrival, course personnel came out and picked up my clubs and placed them on a cart along with others from our group.

I was early so I ordered a breakfast burrito ($8, with chorizo). It was big and had a lot of potato in it, so I felt weighted down for my round. Not doing that again.

Practice area is alright. Got to the range, all grass. We were moved up, but the hitting area was level and not too beat up. Lots of targets but no yardages that I saw. Bring a range finder next time if that’s important to you. There’s a chipping green with a.sand bunker to practice from. I probably should have done that! Also, there’s a small putting green.

The fairways (as noted by other reviewers) were mostly dormant. However, it was not a problem as there was ample turf and root zone to make solid contact. The cut was tight and a good shot could get substantial roll for additional yardage. The fairway on Hole 17 looked like there was an infestation of dandelion. They were mowed flat but I suspect some chemical treatment is in order.

The rough was also mowed tight. It was bumpy as well. I’m guessing it’s gophers/ground squirrels. It varied from lush and thick to sparse or bare. Mostly though, if you were on grass it was fairly easy to hit from.

Tees (whites) were level and a few seemed very firm as I had to use some effort to place a tee. There was good grass coverage and not a lot of divots.

Sand in the bunkers looked great, but that illusion was shattered with me thinning a few out from that soft layer of sand over hard pan. Maybe it’s just me and my LOFT, but I used to be good at hitting from a bunker.

Greens were quite nice. I fixed more than a few shallow ball marks, but there weren’t too many as the greens were very firm. Our group had some difficulty getting balls to check up on many approach shots and chips. They did roll nice with an occasional bump here and there. Good medium-fast speed. Lots of undulations and tiers to keep things interesting.

All in all, a great day not at work. Good weather and nice guys to golf with. I recommend this course.

Played in the GK Guru outing today on a beautiful day. Enjoyable playing partners. First time here in over 5 years. Forgot what a challenging layout this is. Overall the course is in good winter condition. Greens: smooth, firm and medium + speed. Fairways: firm with excessive divots in some of the collection areas but overall playable. Traps: the three I was in were firm. (my only negative) Rough: 1-3" high, very playable. Nice practice areas: driving range, chipping area and putting green. Also, good quality range balls. Excellent GPS units in the carts. POP: just over 4 hours. Good customer service. RECOMMEND.

Played 2-12-20. Course is in winter condition. Not real green but plenty of grass ,though a bit dry. Great roll out if you can drive it low. Didn't see any dead spots like most courses I have played lately. Fairway lies were soft and smooth and the rough was really nice to hit from. You have to be careful as shots off line can easily roll out of play. Greens had good speed and rolled true with an occasional bounce here and there. Bunkers ranged from very firm to soft on top with a hard under layer. This course has a really cool variety of holes and some of the coolest views in the area. This is a course I could play every week and not get tired of it. Actually wish I could!

Rode the Blues (6600/71.9/133) with Gary00, Mrkich and JohnnyGK in slightly over 4.5H. The weather was clear, sunny and breezy in the high 60's. Thanks to Gary, Matt and John for a fun round! Challenging layout up/down rolling hills with large, undulating green complexes and several holes that feature great elevation changes. Very fun course to play with lots of forced carries. More impressed with the layout on each visit. It is fun and challenging without being so punitive that it beats you up. The tees were well maintained. I had no challenges finding a level lie on all holes. The fairways were mostly good to play from. More winter thin than lush and a few collection areas had alot of old divots. The primary rough was lush and thick. No challenges finding balls unless you got to the native areas. The sand traps were okay. No issues with the firm fairway bunkers. I had 4 greenside sand shots and while the quality of the sand was good, I thought all 4 could have used more sand. The large poa greens were firm and medium fast. They held irons with some run out, hardly no ball marks because of the firmness. Better have you "A" lag putting game for these greens! No drink cart out today and there are only a few water stations on the course. The carts have nice GPS where you can measure to different landmarks. Would be a very challenging course to walk with all the hills. Nice all grass range and the customer service from all encountered was excellent. For a course that does not over seed, OQ was in excellent condition for the middle of winter. Definitely recommended.

2/12 guru outing and fun GK 15 match with Nick joined by Matt and Mr GK himself. Beautiful day with an occasional 1 club breeze. My 1st time here and overall I was favorably impressed. Easy friendly check in with cart attendant coming to the parking lot to pick up my clubs. Grass driving range(a little worn in some areas but nice) large putting green with speeds that were quite close to on course conditions and a separate chipping green with a couple of bunkers .
Fairways are winter dormant but have good cover with good root structure. Cut tight and firm for extra roll. Rough looks to have been overseeded and usually a darker green in color. Slowed the shots some but was quite playable.
Tees level with good cover. Bunkers mostly had adequate sand, compacted enough for generally good extraction. Many were rather deep being 6 or so feet below the green.
Greens were very firm, not easy to hold approach shots and even some pitches would keep on rolling. Speed was medium fast rolling smoothly with just enough subtle break for a lot of close misses on the 4-6 footers.
Great layout with good variety and a remote feel. Some elevation changes and good views. Found the tips on gk for this course to be helpful and provided useful info as to intended target line off the tee. In general I thought the layout was quite fair with reward for good shots and appropriate consequences for the misses. Approaches were more difficult as most greens are well protected by bunkers and require a higher trajectory than I usually hit.
All in all a very good day with good companions with a 4 1/2 POP

Layout of the course is incredible, have always enjoyed it so much over the years. I took my cousins out for the first time and they absolutely loved the course. If I had one gripe, I don't love the 18th. I like a challenging finishing hole and when you're hitting a six iron off the tee, kinda takes away from it.

Conditions of the course were very good considering how cold and wet it was. Greens were soft and slow due to the wetness, the sand I thought was really good (despite the last reviewer's comments). Rough isn't so much an issue on this course. Tee boxes in good condition, the par 3s a little more beat up.

All in all, always a great time at Oak Quarry!

Oak Quarry is always a favorite. It’s a great track and has potential to be superior to other high end courses in the area. The last few times our group has gone out, there have been some issues with the greens, bunkers and the range. The greens seem to be under some sort of maintenance the last few times we’ve gone. The traps have very little sand and are in need of a lot of softening up. The range has been either closed or out of balls the last few times we’ve played as well. There are other courses in the area that do a great job with their greens, bunkers and range. I’m confident the same could be done at Oak Quarry if given a priority and would make it a top notch experience.

Played Fri dec 6th with our ofg group, had a 732 tee time and got there at 630 for breakfast which was good, checked in and told us we would start on hole 4 and then play 1,2,3 because the bridge was painted and not dry, well done on 18 and go back to the starter and he said bridge still not ready so we play 2 and 3 and then 1, so we had to drive backwards on 2 to get to the tee box, interesting! !!!! POP was terrible at 5 hours, the 2 groups in front of us were very slow. The course was in real good shape. Tee boxes and fairways good, most bunkers were not, but this is always the issue here and in most I.E. courses. Greens were receptive and we had ball marks to fix all day, they also rolled pretty nice. Course is not long but you have to have course knowledge and really use your range finder to shoot the distances for problems.

Played today which should've been a 7:48 tee time. Course was pretty busy for a Monday to start. Tee times were running behind so we got out a little after 8:00. Course was in excellent condition. The overseeding worked wonders and the course was lush. Tee boxes were a little long and could've been mowed. Had to tee the ball up higher than usual which made for tougher tee shots all around. That was the only negative... Fairways were full and beautifully groomed, greens were really nice and rolling pure. Bunkers were good and had ample sand, I ended up in two for the day. The rough was thick and about 2-3 inches thick in some places.
Overall it was a pleasant round and I was glad to get out to Oak Quarry as I haven't been here in a while. They've done a great job with the course and it's always been in my top 3 inland empire tracks. I'll be back here December 22nd for a tournament and it couldn't come too soon. Hoping to get back out here before then.
