Killer course, nice day Memorial Day, we had a blast. Course is in pretty darn good shape. The greens had some multi color thing going on, not sure what that is about, but they held shots well and putted just fine, they just didn't look perfect. Teeboxes were in great shape, always level and nice lies, even on the par 3's, they were just fine. Fairways near perfect, never a bad lie. Some sand filled divots, but never had any problem, great shape. Found one bunker and it was just fine, good sand, not too fluffy, not hard pan, just fine. Rough was pretty thick, but not too penal. All n all a great day, get on out there if you can take the heat. It was only about 100 degrees, so I thought it was perfect.

Have always wanted to get out to La Quinta and play this course - I finally did! The staff was top notch and very professional. The front and back nine are very different. The first nine holes reminded me of other area courses. The back nine seemed to be better maintained and much more of a course that will bring you back for the beauty and challenge. The fairways started out very tightly cut and appeared to become longer as we made the turn. There are many shorter par 4's and reachable par 5's. The residential area lining some of the fairways will bring you back a few decades! The traps were in good shape and strategically placed according to my playing partner. The views on the course are fantastic - somewhat similar to Oak Quarry in Riverside. The greens were in real good condition - but rolled slower that expected. Really enjoyable round and a thumbs up!

Played 5-24-16. Got out at 8:30 as a 2some. Played in 3.5 hrs. Course is a visual treat. Amazing panoramic views and great use of the mountains to frame many holes. Fairways were lush but cut very short so decent roll. Bunkers were nice and soft sand all around. The greens were a little odd. Looked like 3 kinds of grass growing together but very blotchy. They had good speed though but slower than they looked. Tee boxes were lush except a couple par 3's. All in all a really fun course I would love to play again and take my wife so she can enjoy it as well!

Used our free replay today at the mountain ourse because we could not get on nicklaus. This course is fun but not as prestine condition as the Stadium course. Still the course is nice compared to everything else but a little let down compared to others at PGA WEST.

Staff- was great and got us out quick which was nice. Marshall was around alot which is nice to see he kept everyone moving along.

Greens-very soft and very nice to hit into. speed was medium/fast and true.

Fairways- were very lush and never had a bad lye. be carefull as they can comeback to bite you if you hit near the edges as they could roll off.

Tee's very interesting to see the tee's being different types of grass depending on a hole. the markers were close together so on par 3's there was some divot damage but decent none the less.

Rough- not so good once you get about 10ft in. they def you their water on fairways and greens only because the rough can be nasty.

I like this course i just wish it was as nice as the other courses in the pga west family

-1st time playing mountain and loved the course, typical Pete Dye design...elevated green structures making approach shots tuff but fair.
-Front 9 was flatter country club style with water, back 9 moved into the mountains with steep elevation changes and secluded views *spectacular, pics don't do it justice*
-Played behind a 4 some mixed with 2 women so pace of play was not fast..typical resort weekday.
-Stayed @ La Quinta resort so access was prime, door to course via golf cart ride from bellmen 5 min.
-Greens were immaculate, fairways close to perfect, sand and tee boxes near perfect.
-For the price $129, would play it again if looking to spend that level

Played today for a **BUSINESS MEETING** haha no really it was. Course is in great shape the fairways are super lush and well maintained. The rough is dormant but still lots of grass if you end up in it. The sand however is an interesting predicament the cart path goes right through a majority of the fairway bunkers. it is not paved just hard panned sand. This leaves me to wonder as the paved cart path directs you right into the trap on purpose does it count as cart path and you get free relief??? i only ended up in one and I played it as it lied. This is a tough course if you are not accurate off the tee as the first few holes have water then you have to deal with Pete Dyes strategic bunker placement or worse the cliffs. As for the greens ... every green is elevated from the fair way so no relief if you miss any direction around it. The green were very bumpy and not consistent which was weird because they were lush but its like they did not roll them in a few days. I missed a lot of putts because of this but hey thats golf. Price is steep unless you get a deal off Teeoff.com or something but winter rack rates are ridiculous. I enjoyed my round including hitting the pin from 183 on the par 3 14th missed an ace by 3 inches. I will play again but only if i get a good deal or summer time when you can play for $40

I got an amazing deal on TeeOff.com ($26 after 20% off promo code) for 9:27 this morning. Being this is one of my all-time favorite courses, I couldn't resist. The heat almost killed me, but it was still fun, and I was anxious to see the course after it had been closed most of the summer. It was much busier out there than I expected but play moved along good. We finished in 4:05. They just re-opened Mountain on 9/10 and it's in pretty good shape. The greens are typical late summer desert slow, but unfortunately they are also inconsistent from one green to the next. The first few were ok, then they got a little worse on 5 & 6, then better again, and then the signature 16th hole seemed much quicker than any others all day. They accept full shots pretty well even though they can't be called soft. They're that weird Bermuda that almost disintegrates when you try to fix a ball mark. Fairways and rough were pretty lush, especially for this time of year. Tee boxes were decent. I wasn't in a traditional bunker but the waste bunker I found was in very good shape. I didn't notice any changes from the closure, although they are still in the midst of digging a big trench in front of the eighth tee box for something. The pro shop staff said the course will be open another three to four weeks and then will close for overseeding. A cool thing happened on one tee box, when one of the founding members of the LPGA and Ernie Vossler's widow, Marlene Hagge, came outside her house and struck up a conversation with me and my playing partner. The course is in great shape with the exception of some GIR in #17, 18 fairways, which is one reason their closing for summer to do repair/upgrades. Back 9 is especially beautiful! In my opinion not as tough as it's brother course next door (The Dunes,) probably due to this previously was designed as the "Members Only" course, later flip flopped with the Citrus course which is Private. That said, a wonderful experience, well worth playing. The fairly new Tourney guy Robert, for PGA West & La Quinta does a great job. He "gets" it! Play it!!

Overall, not impressed with the design at all. Pete Dye? Hard to believe he actually had anything to do with the course design. Maybe his first course design, who knows?

Only 2-3 holes were worthy of any special mention, which were built on the back nine. One of them we hit our tee shot off an Astro Turf matt! Other than that, 15 holes look and play just like any muni course in Iowa. Lots more sand on the side of the fairways than a muni course, but not much different. We played a " replay " after playing TPC Stadium, which is a true Pete Dye design.

It seems each and every par 4 on this course was truly identical to the rest: Dead flat, 365 yards, unprotected greens, etc, etc. We also played behind some terrible golfers who had no concept of " Playing through ", so that didn't make the experience any better.

We won't play this course again, as there are so many great choices in the area. Not sure if this is the bottom of the barrel in this area, but it is close. Dunes course, although we did not play it, looked even weaker.
