Played Oak Quarry yesterday, 6/2, getting out around 2:40 as twosome for our GK 12 match. The timing was good as there was initially no one ahead or behind us for several holes. I confess this is one of my favorite courses and I really can't think of a negative on the day. Arguably in peak condition. Tee boxes were fine and I was never conscious of unlevel grounds being issue at all. Fairways were in good shape, offering nice lies and reasonably good rollout. The rough was very good. Generally consistently green and grown in, sometimes allowing recovery and sometimes a bit thicker and deep enough to cost you a shot — generally very fair. I was in two green side bunkers and, while on the firm side, thought they were quite playable. I know the bunkers here are historically the weak point and I've been in some firm crusty ones int the past, but I didn't happen into that scenario today, so no complaints on that front. The greens were fine and rolled at a nice medium fast pace. I was a bit yippy on my short putts on the day and a couple of longer putts I read breaks on didn't, but that's on me. I think they were pretty clean and true enough. It seemed the tees were consistently playing more forward, a full box in some cases. There was a tournament earlier in the day, celebrating in the clubhouse when we started, and we hypothesized that with the tourney and it being weekend, the management adjusted the tees to ensure pace of play. Seemed to work. There was a breeze for much of the round that was probably about a +1 club that did gust up at certain points, but was more often pretty steady. On a warm day, it was pleasant to have it. We caught the foursome ahead of us on the fourth hole and waited on them periodically over the course of the round, but we still probably had about a 4.25 hour pace. Frankly the pace was irrelevant because I was just enjoying being on the course with no place I'd rather be. Finishing in the early summer evening just makes the course look even better.
